Happy 127th anniversary to the Newsies Strike!
Don't forget to warn people who aren't as active online about how much of a scam BetterHelp is.
They are a subscription service masquerading as therapy who have sold their clients information and got fined $7.8 million.
Fuck it, I'm getting this off my chest.
Almost a year ago now I had a conversation with someone in what I thought was good faith, part of which involved me bringing some concerns to them regarding behavior in fandom spaces. I recognized my own faults in regard to when and how this conversation took place and accepted (upon reflection perhaps a disproportionate amount of) blame for that.
I had hoped it would stop there. I had hoped that even though that particular friendship was beyond repair that we could all just move on and maybe they'd take any of what I said under consideration. I didn't speak a word of what happened to any of our shared friends.
But that courtesy was not extended to me. My words were hyperbolized and I was made to be the villain. Accusations were thrown that were malicious and hurtful and wildly disproportionate with the reality of the situation. I received an anonymous message that egregiously painted me as a threat to their safety and tried to guilt me into apologizing for hurting such a 'gentle' person. All of the blame and expectation to apologize and do repair work was placed on me. Me, who had been the one to voice concerns in the first place but became the villain in the situation because the person in question was incapable of reflecting openly on their behavior and rejected any notion that they could in fact be in the wrong.
I never wanted to make this a public spectacle, so I withdrew from the spaces that had once felt like family but I no longer felt welcome in. I no longer knew who I could trust to not believe the fabrications.
But what's worse is that the behaviors I (and plenty of others before and since) brought to their attention continue to happen again and again, and each time there is no accountability. Each time they have positioned themselves as the innocent victim whose only fault is trusting too easily or loving too hard to anyone who will listen while behind the scenes going through the same motions: the baseless accusations, the cruel anonymous messages, the immediate need to make sure everyone in their circle is turned against their latest victim. Sure doesn't sound like love or trust to me.
I'm not going to name this person. I don't wish harm on them, I don't want this post to act as a catalyst for any further action. My hope is just that people will think critically when they hear stories about countless friends who 'went crazy' or 'dropped them out of nowhere.' Because it isn't nowhere. The reality is that so many of us tried to help them and they doubled down and turned us into the problem instead.
My hope is that the people who see this post who will inevitably know what it's about will understand that this is a pattern and it's one that this person has been advised on more than one occasion to break.
My hope is that other people who have experienced this side of someone feel less alone in it.
Everyone makes mistakes. I am not above grace and forgiveness when it comes to genuine apologies and changed behavior. I am not an unreasonable person. But when it's been this many people across years and multiple fandoms something's gotta give.
I cannot get over this one panel where kurogane let go of fai's hand and the expression on fai's face as he does that. a thesis needs to be written to get my point across
the resignation and acceptance and the grief and the relief all at once flashing across. the thought that kurogane has finally let go and he can escape to save himself, leaving fai to deal with this fate; only for kurogane to fucking chop his arm off...
I AM SORRY BUT THEY ARE IT. THIS 2000S YAOI PAIRING IS IT. THEY ARE THE POETRY.
Sometimes I still go insane that Cal lost not just one but MANY families
Jedi Order
Whatever friends he made on Bracca because it's Cal and he can't help it - just because Prauf was his only on screen friend doesn't mean it was his only one
When the Mantis crew split up -> arguably the second most painful because that was a choice (in his mind a choice to leave him), where everything before was just things that happened
Losing his new "crew/family" to the inquisitors with what went down on Coruscant
Betrayal from Bode causing him to lose Cere
And then bam congrats Cal you're a father to some kid who probably will have a messy relationship with you in the future once she realizes you're the reason her father is dead and that he, in all his love for her, was a very corrupt misguided man
Good luck Cal 😭
slowest lesbian relationship (they literally got together earlier today)
When other games have the most perfect LI meet-cute that makes you bust up laughing it makes me salty that LADS never had the guts to make the LI's interact more than hushed allusions or mentions.
MC has like, 5-6 guys hovering around her at all times you think Rafayel isn't going to show up to the pizza party at the association and not be stared down by Xavier??? asdfhjl
no offense but like... in revolutionary school, as vicious as musain rule, i got my feelings bruised by the leader in red. And i propped the bar as he told me, "R, you're good for nothing, fool." And i heard every word that he said.
