I never posted about this yet, but weeks ago I played a board game with my lovely trans friend called Vantage. It was fucking awesome and worked surprisingly well with just 2 people. Even better with just 2 people she said.
It's essentially a game about exploration with a lot of variables to change things up. We played for a good bit, but I feel like there's so much of that game left to explore. Honestly one of the best board game experiences I had.
Then just earlier tonight we played Sky Team which is clearly designed for just 2 people. It was also fun and it's not a long game. Essentially your trying to land a plane which on paper sounds boring, but in practice it's pretty fun. Something as simple as not knowing what dice the other player rolled and not being able to tell each other adds tensions that works well.
She has so much fucking board games. Like an absurd amount compared to the literal 0 I own. The photo is maybe half? Maybe a bit more then half of what all she owns?
Board games are always something that seem cool, but they cost so much and usually require a group to all get together. Excited to actually play more and play stuff I'd never know about otherwise.
Today was one of my regular Saturday board game days, though we were down to just two people, myself and N.
N and I started out the day learning Sky Team, off the store's demo shelf. It's an interesting co-op dice assignment game themed around flying an airplane. The pilot and copilot have a mix of overlapping and different abilities/responsibilities to spend their dice on, in silent cooperation. We only crashed 60% of the five planes we tried to land, which is... not how you want your pilots to perform. Oops.
Followed that with my second game of Thunderstone Advance: Numenera. It's a deck builder where you buy and cards and level up hero cards in the village, using them to defeat the monsters from the dungeon. We had a really odd feeling set of cards in our village, thanks to the randomizer. The rangers I had were giving me more experience from N attacking monsters than she was getting for defeating them.
Finished the day off with two games of Patchwork, also off the store's demo shelf. I don't know how, but I absolutely skunked N in both games. I just had so much more income and board coverage, both. It's a neat game, but it's just so hard to get two player games to the table. That said, it was nice to play it again.
All in all, a pretty nice game day. :)

World champion Peter Sagan stormed to victory in Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne
Sagan (Bora-Hansgrohe) came out on top of the five-man group which made it to the finish in Kuurne, launching his sprint from some way out and having time to look around for dangers in the final 100m.
Jasper Stuyven (Trek-Segafredo) put up a fine defence of his title and came home second ahead of Rowe, who had also finished sixth in Saturday's Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, where Sagan was runner-up.
Tiesj Benoot (Lotto-Soudal) and Matteo Trentin (Quick-Step Floors) rounded out the top five, with the quintet having broken clear inside the final 25kms
