The whole discourse about Invincible's animation (namely how it sucks ass) has me worried about the Energon Universe, even if the circumstances are not 1:1. For starters, Robert Kirkman is not the showrunner himself this time, those duties are being handled by Joe Henderson, the showrunner of Lucifer and the EP behind a live-action Pokemon show that is firmly in the reaches of Development Hell. Hasbro and Takara also probably have some skin in the game, and while every interview about their relationship with Skybound so far has suggested a mostly harmonious one with the occasional hiccups, they might be inclined to refer the animation to a friendly studio rather than have the work done at Skybound Animation (coughStudioTriggercough).
That said, I've been going hard through a lot of fan animations of the EU and the passion of fans who made them...and I really don't want to see the official material be represented by the frankly awful animation Invincible has. I'm not saying it should look like the fan animations, but fan animation suggests a passion and desire for the series to be animated. So all credit to the people who made these.
I'm still expecting to hear news about the show at SDCC or NYCC, but I'm also bracing for a lot of discourse if the wrong studio handles the animation. Ask Roboforce and the Nacelleverse how that went.
