Clementine’s very last frame of the entire series.
Look at her.
So happy.
She has a home now!
For both her and AJ!
I’m happy now too. *sob*
This boy needs love!
Let's love this boy!
-Clementine & Louis [Clouis] The Walking Dead Final Season
He just kept fucking talking
Honestly, I’m very heartbroken Louis doesn’t deserve this
first day // louisentine fanfiction
Title: First Day
Word Count: 1345
Synopsis: On the first day in her new school, Clementine has an awkward hallway encounter.
Ship: Clem x Louis
Author’s Notes: Ugh, I have been inactive for so long it’s actually kind of gross, but I’ll be back to my inconsistent but active schedule soon.
Anyways I needed more HighSchool!Clouis in my life so I wrote this basic story that’s really predictable but should be fun to read. It was definitely fun for me to write!
Enjoy =)
---
It is the first day of high school. I have seven new notebooks, a skirt I hate, and a stomachache.
-Laurie Halse Anderson, “Speak”
---
“You’ll be fine,” Lee had told her on the way out of the door. “You’re a great girl, you’ll make new friends in no time. It’ll be no big deal.”
No big deal to AJ, maybe. He was seven years old and had just finished the first grade at their old school district. He had friends to leave behind too but at that age friendship didn’t mean a lot. You made friends with whoever was nearby, whoever had the new action toy and was willing to share their snacks at breaktime. It wasn’t like he’d miss them, and if he did it wouldn’t be for long.
And as she walked AJ to school she was sure he wasn’t upset at all. “What do you think the school will look like?” He asked, grabbing her hand. “Do you think the teachers will be nice?” She can feel him practically buzzing in place with the sheer excitement and she wishes she could match his enthusiasm.
“I’m sure they will be,” Clem answers, trying to ignore the gnawing sensation in her stomach. “Are you excited, kiddo?”
“Yeah,” AJ says happily. “I can’t wait to meet the other kids,” he continues, talking so fast she’s surprised he doesn’t trip over his own tongue. “I hope the other boys are nice. And the girls too.”
“The girls, huh?” Clem says teasingly, nudging his shoulder.
AJ wrinkles his nose at her. “Ew, not like that. I don’t want a girlfriend yet.”
“Yet? So one day, huh?”
AJ considers this. “Maybe one day. And don’t call it a girlfriend.”
“What do you call it then, buddy?”
“Special girl. Because she’s not a friend. She’s more special than that.”
“Well, I will dread it when that day comes.”
“Huh? Why?”
“Because I like being the special girl in your life.”
“You always will be, Clem. You know that.”
“I know, goofball.”

By the time she’s dropped AJ off and goes to first period, the golf-ball sized bundle of nerves in her stomach has grown to the size of an apple.
She swallows hard and forces the trace of nausea back down her throat, trying to focus on the class syllabus projected on the whiteboard. The teacher’s going over it at a painfully slow pace, dissecting each point with a sharp tap of her pointer on the board.
No eating in class.
No loud discussions.
No bathroom breaks without permission.
Well, Clem thinks, What are we allowed to do?
She glances surreptitiously at her seat partner. The girl to her left - Violet, that’s her name, she heard someone call her that as they entered - is fast asleep, her blonde bangs fanning out over her shut eyes and shivering with every restful breath.
Obviously she’s not paying attention to rule seventeen - no sleeping in class.
The bell rings for second period and Clem shoves her books back into her bag, slinging it over her shoulder and nudging her way through the crowd, ignoring the dirty looks she gets from the kids she pushes aside.
She just needs to go to the bathroom. She’ll puke out her nerves and get on with her day and everything will be fine.
The realization that everything will not be fine hits her halfway down the hall.
Literally.
The locker door slams right into her nose with a sickening crunch and she’s pretty sure it’s broken. Her back meets the linoleum floor with a smack and her hands instinctively go to cover her nose, cradling it with a wince.
People swerve to avoid her, muttering curses as they have to change paths quickly.
Clem hears the locker door close and there’s a voice very, very close to her face, except she can’t put a face to the voice because her eyes are still screwed shut with pain.
“Oh, shit. Are you okay?”
She cracks open one eye and a guy’s face hovers in front of her. “Seriously, are you okay?” He reaches out a hand like he’s about to pull her up but Clem manages to muster what’s left of her strength to swat away his hand.
“Don’t touch me,” She snaps, the other hand still cupping her nose. The guy backs off quickly.
By now the hallway’s gotten quiet, with everyone having already dispersed to their classes. A few kids dash into their classrooms just as the period bell rings, barely making it in time.
Great. Not only is she in a new school and her nose is broken, she’s going to be tardy.
She props herself up on one hand and glares heatedly at the guy. “What the hell is your problem?”
He frowns. “You sort of charged at me. I didn’t really expect it.”
“Yeah, but my nose is broken.”
“It’s probably not,” The guy says confidently. “Here, let me see.” He tries to take her wrist away from her face but she flinches from him. “Uh, no thanks. I’d rather just walk around like this.”
“Just let me see,” He promises. “If it’s not broken I’ll feel a lot better about myself.”
Fine.
She gingerly lifts her hand away and grimaces, waiting for him to recoil in horror.
The guy smiles. He’s missing one of his teeth, she notices idly, although she isn’t sure why she notices. “It’s not broken.”
“It’s not?”
“Nah. I broke my nose once in Pee Wee. Looked a lot worse than that.” He smiles at her. His smile is lopsided, like one side’s weighed down more than the other, but it’s a strangely charming effect. “You didn’t break anything else, right?”
“Only my dignity,” she says snippily, earning her another laugh. The guy stands up and extends a hand. “You want up?”
She takes his hand gingerly and lets herself be pulled up, hoping she isn’t swaying too much from the dizziness. “Thanks. I’m Clementine,” She says.
“Louis. It’s no problem.” He’s staring at her and it takes her a moment to self consciously realize it’s her hat he’s looking at, not her.
“You know that team?” Louis says curiously. Clem shakes her head sheepishly. “No. I just like the hat.”
“Good,” He says with a sort of relief to it. “It’s a shit team.”
Before she can help herself she laughs, a loud laugh that echoes up and down the hall. She covers her mouth quickly. “Oh, my god. I’m so sorry.”
Louis tilts his head. “Don’t be. You’ve got a nice laugh.”
She stares at him. “You’re being very forward, you know that?”
He ducks his head and starts to walk past her, except by the way his face is angled towards her she knows he’s still paying attention to what she’s saying. “Forward about what?”
“You know.”
“Nuh-uh.” He turns and faces her full on again. “You know what, Clementine? Next time we meet, you tell me what I’m being forward about. Or you can do it now.”
She can’t think of a good way to explain it - and if she did she probably still wouldn’t say it. So she gives him a short, flustered smile and turns around to go to second period.
They’re heading opposite ways so she doesn’t have to look back at him to get to her class-
-she doesn’t have to, but she does anyways.
I’m dead. Telltale’s/Skybound’s The Walking Dead Game has officially broken me. But I’m so happy and grateful to have managed to follow this series (almost) from beginning to end.
Does the fandom ever give Christa enough credit as Clementine’s caretaker? Christa who, after the sudden passing of Omid and then her baby just barely weeks apart (possibly), still took care of Clementine for two years and protected her until her final moments?
We need to talk about Christa more.
And Omid.
