Sun Halo - also called a 22 degree halo. I took this photo of a sunhalo at a higher elevation. These sun halos are caused by concentrated ice crystals traveling inside cirrus clouds. This usually occurs at about 20,000 feet above the Earth. In early childhood I learned from a dairy farmer in our family that this is usually a sign that a wetter than normal season was on its way.
