in egm, shepard- infiltrator has the ranks n7, s2, d3 and r2
but I found out that in order to be admitted to the special forces program, it is necessary to have the rank a7, for which it is necessary to have a rank not lower than b5
and thats how was born idea to draw shepard before torfan, during retraining from planetary marines to naval marines (about 2174y)

It’s over.
Ryn’s breathing ran ragged in her ears, in and out, in and out with the pounding of her heart. She could feel her heart beating through her chest, could feel it beating in her head.
Her implants flared with each beat—fried beyond belief.
She clutched her rifle closer. The stone remains of a wall pressed into her back, pushing back on her armor as she pressed herself closer.
Smoke drifted over her, acrid and tangy with fuel fumes and burning buildings. And other things.
Another ragged breath.
She wasn’t going to think about that.
Ryn moved slowly to the edge of her cover, peeking around. Across the field, corpses were scattered. Behind her, she knew living bodies still breathed and hearts still beat.
She’d done that.
It was so quiet.
Maybe after all the weapon fire, she’d gone deaf.
No, her helmet had specific protocols and materials to prevent that.
Her helmet was suffocating her, pressing in, all the air disappearing.
A gasp. Ryn cradled her helmet in her arms, sweat dripping down her face and onto her uniform.
She was pretty sure it was just sweat.
Her eyes burned. So many people.
Wave after wave fueled only by a feral need for vengeance.
Ryn sank back onto the ground, sitting down heavily. She pressed a fist over her mouth, muffling a cry into her glove.
“Lieutenant?” She stared at her helmet, hearing the tinny voice come through the ear piece, “ Lieutenant Shepard are you there?”
“Yes.” She croaked. Cleared her throat, lifted her helmet up just speak into it, “I’m still here.”
A relieved sigh came from the other end.
“Are they safe?” she asked before the other end could speak. Her heart snuck into her throat, breaking her voice like fragile glass, “ Are they safe ?”
Had this all been worth something?
“ Most everyone after the initial attack made it back safe.” The voice on the other end soothed, tethering her mind from drifting from her body, “ You saved a lot of lives today, Shepard .”
Ryn turned her eyes back to the carnage spreading across the field. Started feeling the shots her armor had only stalled instead of stalled. Felt her own blood start to mix with the blood she took.
She went a little lightheaded, the battlefield going unfocused in front of her before snapping back into sharp focus.
It was too bright—sun bounced off of the fallen guns, armor, the Alliance’s machines.
It was so quiet. Too quiet.
Was this what saving lives looked like?
“ Stay with us Shepard ,” She heard from a distance. Realized her helmet had fallen from her lap, dust covering the black material, obscuring the N7 logo emblazoned on it.
Her stomach roiled.
She was slumped against wall now, sinking down, down, down .
“ We’ve got you in our sights, we’re on our way. Hang in down there .”
In the distance, she heard the rumbling of a Mako. Breaking the tense, brutal silence. The deadly silence.
Deadly—she had turned deadly.
She was protecting—she knew she was, remembered her thoughts when the attack had first started. The way her first instinct had been to throw on her armor that was stored away while she was on leave. How her first instinct had been to grab her guns, rush out the door, and throw up a barrier around those who were closest.
She was protecting.
Protecting her side.
Taking the other side.
Ryn squeezed her eyes closed, “Please.” she whimpered.
Begging for forgiveness. Begging for strength. Begging—
Begging not the drown in the dark wave that rushed across her vision.
Just came across this little tidbit on the Mass Effect wika:
During a conversation with Joker, it is mentioned Shepard was present during the Skyllian Blitz, even if they were not awarded any special commendation, regardless of background.
I’ve literally never seen this referenced in fanfic or any other trivia. Anyone have a link to a video or transcript of this conversation with Joker? I just find it fascinating that both the Akuze Survivor and the Butcher of Torfan backgrounds would also be there but that it wouldn’t lead to the same outcome. One of those fun butterfly effect scenarios, or just different choices.
It’s definitely a bit weird for Elanos Haliat, leader of the Blitz on Elysium, to be human. (I heard somewhere that making him human was a bug, and he was meant to be batarian? Can’t remember where I heard it, though.)
Not because he was fighting on the anti-human side of a very nasty war. Plenty of people would do that for enough money. It just seems weird that a bunch of mostly Hegemony-allied-ish, mostly batarian pirates would follow a human into battle - I would have thought they’d have too many grudges against the entire species.
A lot of fanfic makes him turian, which makes rather more sense in a “who cares what he is, he’s the most badass dude in the Terminus is what he is,” way. I think I’d rather make him batarian and personally Hegemony-adjacent, though. Maybe some upper-caste Hegemony warrior, who was exiled for antisocial behaviour against other upper-caste batarians?
I'd imagine the pirate forces wanting to destroy any comm buoys hanging around Elysium at the time of invading. How do you think then would the colonists be able to call Alliance reinforcements for help?
The Alliance was already present on Elysium. We're talking "small ground teams made up of Alliance marines on leave", which is the case of Shepard if you pick that background. The Alliance Navy was engaged as well. Reinforcements arrived hours later, which to me seems to indicate they didn't destroy all the buoys.
I have a theory about the buoys though, but it's just a theory, right?I'm wondering if nobody dares to attack the comm buoys pre-Reaper Wars... Because yes, if you want to do a full invasion and succeed, you should destroy the buoys. But if you start to destroy comm buoys you're cutting everyone off and you're back in what could be the Middle Ages for the galaxy...The Reapers, they don't give a shit about the consequences, so they might as well. They also don't need to communicate between themselves like pirates or other invaders do.
It's kind of a drastic measure.Later the batarians had a comm outage on their homeworld, and it was seen as catastrophic. They were cut off from colonies and their entire economy was in jeopardy. Batarians were seen "as fleeing" their government. They became refugees and talked about "planets devastated."Can you imagine? Like obviously attacking a colony like Elysium was a grave offense, but something tells me that in the Mass Effect world, attacking the comm buoys is even worse... It’s a devastation on a massive scale.
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
After months of chasing and fighting pirates in the Attican Traverse, the Alliance cruiser SSV Cairo visits the planet of Elysium. A young lieutenant, her experienced sergeant and platoon visit the capital Illyria for much needed rest; but what was meant to be shore leave turns into the fight of their lives. In the middle of a burning city, Lieutenant Shepard must decide the type of officer she is - and how far she’s willing to go for victory.
Part one of the Skyllian Blitz, milscifi style, featuring a young Emilia Shepard and her platoon sergeant. Co-written with a good friend who doesn’t really use tumblr.
