The archer sat on the roof opposite the apartment he was planning on crashing into in the next few minutes. It wasn’t his usual contract, but he’d be lying if he said that he didn’t need the money. His rent was... overdue and that was putting it lightly. Getting evicted wasn’t going to do him any favors with Ollie and frankly he wasn’t in the mood for yet another lecture from his adoptive father. He also wasn’t about to take any money from him and touching his inheritance from his birth parents, or his trust fund from Oliver was out of the question. All that money was going to Lian, she deserved it far more than he did. She was pure, innocent, good, everything that he wasn’t. Between his landlord threatening eviction and the quickly dwindling supply of food he hadn’t been able to say no to the fifty thousand dollar payout, even if he wasn’t usually one for murking.

His eyes scanned over the file on his phone one last time, eyes quickly sliding over the words while his finger continuously scrolled through it. Confirming once more that he was at the right place before he shoved his phone into his pocket. Silently he removed his bow from his back, firing a zip line arrow over the window he planned to use as an entry point. Roy doubled checked his glasses, wanting to ensure he wouldn’t be losing an eye to glass tonight, before smoothly gliding across the zip line, bracing himself for the shattering of glass. One arm covered his face as his feet through the window, his body automatically rolling to protect himself from the impact of the landing. It took less than ten seconds for him to have knocked an arrow, eyes quickly falling on his target. She was... not what he’d been expecting. “Raise your hands and know that I will have this arrow through your chest before you can even think about trying anything.” Roy kept his boy trained on her, reminding himself that not every threat looked dangerous while the little voice that he always tended to ignore was screaming that she looked young and innocent. “Yes or no, are you Skylar Ballard?”

Sitting still was not her strong suit. But she tried to stay still, only her feet shaking in restlessness. For someone who loved having her hair braided and loved the feel of someone braiding her hair, she was surprisingly terrible at sitting still for it. “I can’t help it, it’s like the second I think ’okay gotta stay still’ is the second my body freaks out and has to be moving.” She laughed. “Just more proof that my body secretly hates me.”

She tried to focus on the lakefront in front of them. They were out on the grass in front of whoever’s house this was, right on the lake. She could see the boats and jet skis and water skiers passing and without realizing it, she began to relax as she watched lake people live their lives, watched their relaxing days play out right in front of her and Skye. “When we’re done we should go swimming. Find some cute boys to let us suntan on their boat. Something fun.”

“Guys, c’mon, she’s scared. Just leave her for someone else.” She doesn’t like this- whoever this girl is she’s obviously freaked out and Fox can’t really blame her. Fox’s meeting with the Brotherhood went arguably great- they killed the people trying to kill her and she’d been willingly theirs ever since. She was awed and terrified of Mystique and Magneto, just plain scared of Sabretooth, but the others were nice enough and Pietro, Lance and Wanda had so far not let anything bad happen to her.

This girl didn’t have the same meeting. Sabretooth had been sent to get her and not only had he failed, he’d managed to freak the fuck out of the girl as well. So the younger set had been given the job. Wanda had refused and, being Wanda, Mags had allowed it. So it was just Fox trying to talk Pietro and Lance out of freaking the girl out even more. “You’re gonna scare her even more.”

She ran in front of the boys, holding her hands out to stop them. “Just- just wait, okay? Let me talk to her first?” The two boys exchanged a look and shrugged, and she vanished from sight and slipped into the building they were pretty sure housed the newbie weather witch. “Hello?” She called, not coming into view just yet, trying to find the other girl before she herself was found. “Anyone here? We’re not here to hurt you.” At least, she wasn’t.
