OKAY so Doyen and Asper met at the Sound and fell in love at the Sound and now pretty permanently reside at the Sound.
Asper was hatched in Nature territory, and almost immediately felt called by his Search. Since it was dangerous for a young guardian to be out on his own, his parents sent him off in a trading caravan to find his charge. He picked up on mercantile life quickly and his Search feelings began to subside as he learned the tools of his trade. When Asper’s caravan arrived at the Halcyon Sound (a small trading post at the time) he realized two things: the financial potential of the Halcyon Sound was being severely undervalued, and that his charge was the nebulous term ‘Commerce.’ His guardian instincts and premonitions make him a skilled businessman, always able to see the best solutions to any deal and exactly how to treat his customers to make that outcome a reality.
Previously Doyen had been a paladin raised on the edge of light territory in a small village where half the magic users were shadow-based casters and half were light. They had light. They weren’t trained as an emperor hunter, so when one came a-calling their whole group of paladin comrades and most of their village was completely wiped out. The Lightweaver herself came down to crush the emperor and She gave Doyen new purpose at literally the darkest moment in their life.
They’re really meticulous w/ temple upkeep and religious affairs as a result, but surprisingly still struggle with doubt a lot. And Asper knows this. Since Asper’s charge is very nebulous he struggles w/ it too. Doubt that he’s doing enough for his charge: if he’s not protecting or contributing his ALL then what is he? A bad guardian???
SO yeah they balance each other out nicely, Doyen is the chill to Asper’s high-strung nature and Asper is the driving force that’s needed to propel Doyen out of paralyzing doubts.
They’re two very private people, outside of the realm of public responsibilities their jobs have them live in, so any sort of PDA is out of the question, vacationers would not be able to tell they were a couple at all and some long-term residents might not even know, they’re pretty distant and formal outside of family life.
INSIDE of family life though, they’re both pretty dang decent parents? a far better sight than Charlemagne and Aachen. They both take as active a role as possible while raising their children, given all that they are in charge of. If a kid shows interest in either of their occupations (or similar enough occupations) they’ll bring ‘em along to work and set them up with appropriate tasks and internships. Or they’ll find fitting tutors for areas they’re not trained in, if a child shows some other interest. They both want their kids to have EVERY opportunity to succeed because they believe their children DESERVE at least that, probably more.
The downside to all that is that they do have pretty high expectations for their kids and if a child wasn’t giving it their all, 24-6, they’d be a) concerned hover-parents (what’s wrong? are you struggling with depression? is it something that requires prayers to our lady lightweaver? have some fantasy dragon Emergen-C) and b) tangibly disappointed.
Asper’s charge keeps him somewhat rooted in the Sound (it’s not binding like Charlemagne’s, but the Sound is an economic paradise and he’s all about that profit), but they both travel to visit kids whenever they can. Doyen travels more often, obviously, but they both probably write frequent letters to all their children (who gave them mailing addresses :3c)

he’s into adventure and heisting and being a stay-at-home dad (these things are not mutually exclusive apparently). but right now he has to take care of court dorchadas and the minutiae of its businesses and trade relationships. he’s not alone, of course, and he knows he’s in a position of incredible privilege, but the responsibility is grinding him down
