right?? how many times do Finn and Poe need to be de-emphasized or outright erased from the marketing before people admit that it's probably deliberate?

This is the same shit they pulled with the Last Jedi poster too and people had the same BS excuses about how they just wanted to focus on the Skywalkers for the poster. Fucking bullshit. The poster for the ST sticks out like a sore thumb when you look at the lineup for the three of them. The other posters focused heavily on the heroes, including non-Skywalkers like fucking Yoda, Padme, Han, Obi Wan and freaking Qui-Gon Jinn. 

But the ST poster completely changes how the lineup is picked (excluding two of the three members of the heroic trio) so it exclusively focuses on all the white characters and excludes any character of color. No one with half a brain cell would look at the lineup for the poster and honestly think “yeah that’s definitely not racist”. B-fucking-S. LucasFilm and the artist knew what they were doing when they picked the characters to include and exclude in each of those posters. And they are white as mayonnaise for only one goddamn reason, racism.

Yea I’ve seen people screaming about Rian Johnson for this, and it’s on Abrams. I get there is a lot people are upset about right now, but the parentage thing was huge and there is no denying that is the main mystery people want to see cleared up in TLJ, having them pull a “the mystery is there is no mystery” is bad writing and it deserves to be pointed out. 

I’m not saying in general Rey Random couldn’t have been a great idea, I think if they set it up in TFA then yes Rey Random would have worked. But Rey Random wasn’t set up in TFA at all. 

Explain to me why Leia passes right over Chewie to hug Rey if Rey Random is the correct theory? Explain why Han Solo and Rey have an instant connection so deep and impactful that only after a few hours of knowing him she thinks he’s a father figure, and apparently is still scarred by his death in the next movie (when it’s been said that Finn isn’t gonna deal with Han’s death and he knew Han longer then Rey did), explain to me Kylo’s “it is you!” quote from the books? Explain to me why Luke doesn’t need to ask “who she is” in the script?

Also if Rey’s parents just flat out sold her and didn’t give a damn why does she think they’ll be back? Why does the novelization have Rey remember “Will be right back for you sweetheart?” line. Why would they say that if they had no intention of ever seeing her again? 

Rey Random makes no sense,  and is the lamest thing they would have done to the Star Wars series since Anakin’s virgin birth in my opinion.

a VF critic also reassured someone asking about reylo that Tumblr is going to love the movie. I didn't freak out over the previous debunkings but I dont see a reason not to take tweets like that at face value

Hmm, you might be right. And I might be kidding myself. But the vast majority of tweets I’m reading are focused squarely on Mark Hamill and his performance--barely a hint of Driver unless specifically asked about it. 

I guess I’m conflicted between giving myself false hope, and not wanting to cry devastation too early. Like “reylo could happen” is a pretty big-ass leak for a critic to give away in a tweet.

There is no lead in Star Wars ignored by Lucasfilm as completely and efficiently as Bodhi. Sure the fandom ignores half the characters but Lucasfilm usually at least gives its characters merchandise (the Rey erasure on some products seems totally cool in comparison)

if rey isn’t luke’s daughter then fine, i’ll accept it. but they better have a damn good reason to explain why rey was basically luke 2.0 and wasn’t given her own story just to end up NOT being his long lost daughter. 

they also better explain:

why the parentage reveal was SUCH A BIG DEAL if she isn’t apart of the most important family in the galaxy. why does everyone seem to wonder/know who she is but never say (han, snoke, maz, kylo, leia, etc.)?

 why the lightsaber called to her, giving her visions only regarding luke and the mystery surrounding him?

why she dreamed of luke’s island for years as she tried to sleep?

why the lightsaber flew past kylo, past a confirmed skywalker, and went to her?

why leia hugged her/sent her off to retrieve luke?

why artoo woke up the minute she was brought to the resistance base? 

why luke and rey both look so emotional at the end of the film?

and why do luke and rey look so much alike if they aren’t related?

so yeah, another storyline would be fine. but it needs to explain all of this without hurting rey’s development in the process.
