Still Waters, Forever Starts | Bang Chan | 1.
The morning sky over the Australian countryside was soft and gray, clouds hanging low over the hills just outside Sydney. Winter there wasn’t freezing, just cool enough for crisp air, warm coffee, and little puffs of breath when you laughed outside. The venue overlooked the ocean cliffs, surrounded by eucalyptus trees and decorated in soft neutral winter shades. Ivory roses, champagne satin, taupe candles, sage greenery, and warm golden lights made everything feel calm and intimate instead of overly extravagant.
By 10 a.m., the bridal suite was already full of noise.
Music played quietly from someone’s phone while your bridesmaids moved around the room trying to finish last minute details. Someone was steaming dresses, someone else was opening champagne way too early, and every few minutes another person would come over to check if you were nervous yet.
You sat near the window in a cream satin robe, coffee warming your hands while your makeup artist worked carefully. Every now and then you looked outside at the cloudy sky and tried to calm the way your heart kept racing.
Today you were marrying Bang Chan.
Chris.
The love of your life.
Meanwhile, in another room across the venue, Chan was somehow both completely ready and entirely falling apart.
“Stop touching your tie,” Changbin complained for what had to be the tenth time.
“I’m not touching it,” Chan argued while literally fixing it again.
“You’re sweating through the jacket already,” Hyunjin laughed.
“It’s my wedding day. I’m allowed to panic.”
The room burst into laughter while Chan rubbed his hands over his face. He looked nervous, emotional, excited, all at once. Every time someone mentioned your name, he smiled without even realizing it.
When the photographer asked what he was most excited for, his answer came immediately.
“Seeing her.”
By the afternoon, the venue looked unreal.
Soft fabric hung from the wooden ceilings, candles flickered across every table, and the sound of the ocean carried through the open windows. It felt warm despite the winter air outside. Cozy. Personal. Exactly the kind of wedding Chan would want.
At 2 p.m., it was finally time for the first look.
The coordinators brought Chan out to a quiet cliffside path behind the venue. The wind moved softly through his hair while waves crashed below the rocks. He stood there with his hands clasped together, bouncing nervously on his feet.
“Don’t turn around yet,” the photographer reminded him.
“I’m trying,” he laughed nervously.
Then he heard your footsteps.
You walked toward him slowly, your dress moving gently in the wind, your bouquet trembling slightly in your hands. When you finally reached him, you placed your hand softly against his shoulder.
The second he turned around, his eyes filled with tears.
“Oh no,” he laughed shakily, already crying. “I told myself I wouldn’t cry this early.”
You started laughing too, feeling emotional almost instantly.
Chan just stared at you for a second like he couldn’t believe you were real.
“You look perfect,” he whispered.
Not because of the dress or the makeup or any of it. Just you.
He reached for your hands immediately, holding them tightly while resting his forehead against yours.
“I can’t believe this is actually happening.”
“Me neither.”
And then quietly, almost like he couldn’t hold it in anymore, he whispered,
“I’ve loved you for so long.”
By 4 p.m., guests had gathered outside for the ceremony.
The sky had turned pale blue-gray as candles flickered down the aisle inside glass lanterns. Soft instrumental versions of Stray Kids songs played quietly while everyone took their seats.
Chan stood at the altar trying to stay composed.
That lasted until the music changed.
The second he saw you at the end of the aisle, all composure disappeared completely. His eyes widened instantly and he looked emotional all over again.
You couldn’t stop smiling as you walked toward him.
Everything else faded away.
The ceremony itself was simple and heartfelt. The officiant spoke about partnership, trust, and finding comfort in another person. About choosing each other every single day.
Then came the vows.
You went first.
“I used to think love had to be loud and dramatic to mean something. But loving you has always felt peaceful instead. Safe. Like home.
You are the kindest person I know. You give so much of yourself to everyone around you and somehow still wake up every day trying to love people even better than before.
I promise to be your safe place too.
I promise to remind you to rest when you work too hard, to hold your hand through every difficult moment, and to celebrate every beautiful one beside you.
I promise to laugh with you, grow with you, and choose you over and over again for the rest of my life.
You are my best friend, my home, and my heart.
And I can’t wait to spend forever loving you.”
Chan was already wiping tears away before you even finished.
When it was his turn, he laughed softly while trying to collect himself.
“I had an entire speech prepared,” he admitted. “But now I’m standing here looking at you and I can barely think.”
Everyone laughed gently.
Then he looked back at you and his expression softened completely.
“You changed my life in ways I don’t think I’ll ever fully understand.
Before you, I thought love meant constantly proving yourself. Working harder. Being more. But you loved me even on the days when I felt exhausted or overwhelmed or not enough.
You saw every version of me and you stayed.
I promise I’ll spend the rest of my life making sure you never question how loved you are.
I promise to listen to you, protect your heart carefully, and make you laugh whenever life gets difficult.
And when we’re old and probably arguing over what music to play in the kitchen, I still want you to be the first person I see every morning.
You’re my person. Forever.”
There wasn’t a dry eye anywhere.
The second the officiant pronounced you husband and wife, Chan kissed you immediately while everyone around you cheered loudly.
And somehow, all the nerves disappeared at once.
By 5 p.m., the reception had officially started.
The ballroom glowed gold under candlelight and hanging fairy lights. Guests laughed over dinner while soft jazz played in the background. The entire room felt warm and full of love.
Chan barely let go of your hand all night.
During your first dance, he pulled you close while the music played softly around you.
“We actually did it,” he whispered against your forehead.
“You sound surprised.”
“A little.”
You laughed quietly while he spun you slowly across the floor.
As the night went on, everything became louder and messier in the best way possible. The members dragged Chan into the middle of the dance floor the second Stray Kids songs started playing. Felix somehow convinced your older relatives to dance with him. Seungmin kept stealing desserts from people’s plates while pretending he wasn’t. Hyunjin cried during his speech and then immediately denied it afterward.
By 9:30, everyone gathered outside for the send-off.
The night air was colder now, ocean breeze brushing against your skin while guests lined the pathway holding sparklers. Warm golden lights surrounded you while cheers and laughter echoed through the dark.
At the end of the driveway waited a silver vintage car decorated with white flowers and a small sign that read Just Married.
Chan opened the door dramatically for you.
“M’lady.”
You laughed while climbing inside beside him.
As the car slowly pulled away from the venue, guests waving behind you, Chan immediately reached for your hand.
“We’re really married,” he said softly.
This time, neither of you laughed.
Outside the windows, the Australian coastline disappeared slowly into the night while your honeymoon tickets sat safely in Chan’s jacket pocket.
Tomorrow, you’d leave for the Caribbean.
But tonight was yours.
