Golden Hour | Han Jisung | 5.
The Scottish Highlands feel like they were pulled from the pages of a storybook.
Rolling green hills stretch beyond the manor in every direction, painted in shades of emerald, gold, and soft lavender from the wild heather growing across the countryside. Stone walls wind through the landscape, disappearing into distant valleys, while the late summer sun casts everything in a warm glow that makes the world seem softer somehow.
The wedding is held at a historic countryside estate nestled among the hills. The manor itself is built from weathered stone, surrounded by sprawling gardens filled with pale yellow roses, cream peonies, and golden ranunculus. Ivory fabric drapes from wooden beams above the outdoor reception area, moving gently whenever the breeze rolls through.
Not bright or overwhelming.
It feels less like a wedding venue and more like the kind of place people spend years trying to remember perfectly.
By late morning, Y/N has already accepted that she's nervous.
Aware that by the end of the day, everything will be different.
She sits near the window of the bridal suite while her hair is finished, looking out across the gardens below. Every so often she catches sight of guests arriving and immediately feels her stomach flip.
Across the estate, Han is discovering that waiting might actually be the hardest part of the entire wedding.
The groom's suite is filled with laughter, music, and the usual chaos that somehow follows Stray Kids everywhere.
Changbin is eating something.
Seungmin is being annoyingly observant.
Lee Know is enjoying Han's suffering far too much.
Han, however, keeps finding himself drifting toward the windows.
Not because he's checking for Y/N.
Not because he's trying to sneak a look.
He just keeps looking outside.
The whole day feels surreal.
Every few minutes, he'll glance out at the gardens and think:
Oh. I'm getting married today.
Then ten minutes later he'll have the exact same realization all over again.
Eventually Seungmin notices.
"You've looked out that window at least twenty times."
Han opens his mouth to argue.
"...Okay maybe a little."
The room erupts with laughter.
"I just can't believe it's actually happening," he admits.
For once, nobody teases him.
Because everyone understands.
Today isn't just another day.
It's the day Han gets to marry the love of his life.
The first look takes place in a private garden tucked behind the manor.
Yellow roses climb over stone archways while the afternoon sun filters through ancient trees overhead. Everything is quiet except for birdsong and the occasional breeze moving through the flowers.
Han stands beneath one of the arches trying to stay calm.
Trying being the important word.
His heart has been racing for the last ten minutes.
Just in an overwhelming way.
Because he's about to see Y/N.
The next sound he hears is footsteps approaching across the stone pathway.
His pulse immediately doubles.
A gentle tap lands on his shoulder.
And immediately forgets every coherent thought he's ever had.
Y/N stands in front of him wearing an ivory gown embroidered with delicate golden flowers.
For several seconds he just stares.
"Are you going to say something?"
Y/N starts laughing harder.
And somehow that makes him relax.
A smile spreads across his face.
The kind that reaches his eyes.
"You look incredible," he says softly.
Then, after another second:
"Actually no. Incredible isn't right."
"I don't know. I write songs for a living and somehow I still don't have the words."
That earns another laugh from her.
He immediately reaches for her hands.
The smile Y/N gives him in return becomes one of his favorite memories from the entire day.
Before they separate, Han leans closer.
"Can I tell you something?"
"I was doing fine until right now."
"You're a terrible liar."
"Okay, I was absolutely not doing fine."
As evening approaches, the Highlands glow beneath golden sunlight.
Rows of yellow flowers line the aisle while candles flicker softly between arrangements of roses and greenery. Family and friends fill the seats, their conversations quieting as the music begins.
Han stands at the altar beside the officiant.
For the first time all day, he feels completely calm.
And immediately becomes nervous again.
The smile that spreads across his face is impossible to hide.
The closer she gets, the wider it becomes.
By the time she reaches him, he's practically glowing.
And suddenly neither of them feel nervous anymore.
She unfolds her paper and immediately smiles at him.
"I used to think I needed someone calm to balance me out."
"Then I met you and realized apparently what I actually needed was someone who sends me voice messages that are five minutes long and somehow forgets what he was talking about halfway through."
The audience bursts into laughter.
"But honestly, I wouldn't change any of it."
"You make life fun. You make ordinary days feel important. You make me laugh when I don't want to laugh and smile when I don't feel like smiling."
"I love how passionate you are. I love how deeply you care about people. I love how excited you get when talking about something you love."
Han's smile grows softer.
"And I promise to support every dream, every goal, every song, every random hobby, and every late-night idea that somehow starts with the words, 'Okay, hear me out.'"
The guests laugh while Han pretends to be offended.
Then Y/N looks at him again.
"And most importantly, I promise you'll never have to go through life alone again. No matter where life takes us, no matter how hard things get, you'll always have someone beside you."
For once, Han doesn't have a joke ready.
"I rewrote these six times."
"I kept trying to make them perfect."
"Then I realized perfection isn't really us."
"What makes us special isn't perfection. It's choosing each other every day anyway."
"Before I met you, I spent a lot of my life worrying about things. The future. Mistakes. Whether I was good enough."
"But being with you makes everything quieter."
"Not because you fix my problems. Not because life suddenly became easy. But because now I have someone I want to share everything with."
A small laugh escapes him.
"The good days. The bad days. The days where we order takeout because neither of us wants to cook."
"The days where we watch the same comfort show for the hundredth time."
Another smile spreads across his face.
"You've become my best friend."
His voice becomes gentler.
"The first person I want to tell when something exciting happens. The person I want beside me when things don't go according to plan."
"And I promise that fifty years from now I'll still be trying to make you laugh."
"Probably with terrible jokes."
"Definitely with terrible jokes."
The guests erupt with laughter.
"But I'll spend every day making sure you know how loved you are."
His eyes never leave hers.
"Because loving you is the easiest thing I've ever done."
As night settles over the Highlands, the estate transforms.
Thousands of fairy lights illuminate the gardens while music drifts through the warm evening air. Guests laugh beneath glowing lanterns and long tables decorated with yellow flowers and candles.
The entire evening feels less like a formal wedding and more like the world's happiest family gathering.
Han spends most of the reception moving from group to group, talking, laughing, getting distracted halfway through conversations, taking photos, and somehow ending up in even more photos.
Everywhere he goes, people stop him to congratulate him.
Everywhere he goes, his eyes eventually drift back toward Y/N.
Like he's making sure she's still there.
Like he's still amazed she actually is.
At one point Changbin catches him staring.
"You know she's not going anywhere, right?"
Han doesn't even look away.
"So why do you keep checking?"
Han finally glances at him.
Changbin immediately regrets asking.
As the lights dim slightly, guests gather around the dance floor.
The opening piano notes of Beautiful Things begin to play.
Because she already knows what's about to happen.
The second the lyrics start, Han begins quietly singing along.
His hand rests against her waist while they sway beneath the lights, and every so often he sings a line directly to her with the biggest smile on his face.
Y/N spends half the dance laughing because he keeps getting distracted by looking at her.
At one point he completely misses a lyric.
By the chorus, they're both laughing.
By the final chorus, Han is singing softly against her forehead while they sway beneath hundreds of glowing lights.
For a few minutes, the entire reception seems to disappear.
Exactly where they want to be.
Near midnight, guests gather outside the manor beneath strings of glowing lights.
Instead of sparklers, everyone holds small bottles of bubbles.
The moment Han and Y/N step outside, hundreds of bubbles fill the night air.
They drift through the lights like floating pieces of gold.
Adults laugh while trying to blow the biggest ones possible.
The entire scene feels joyful and slightly chaotic.
Which is exactly why Han loves it.
As they walk through the crowd, bubbles float around them from every direction.
Han keeps stopping to wave at people.
Then stopping again for one more photo.
Then stopping for another hug.
"We're never actually leaving, are we?"
"Okay, maybe eventually."
Their families and friends continue cheering as they finally reach the car.
Before getting inside, Han looks back one last time.
At the best day of his life.
Then he turns toward Y/N.
The word still feels unbelievable.
A smile spreads across his face.
The kind of smile that only appears when someone realizes they've found exactly where they belong.
Their fingers intertwine instantly.
Together, they climb into the car and disappear into the Scottish night while bubbles continue floating through the golden lights behind them.
For a few minutes, neither of them says much. The excitement of the day settles around them as the manor slowly disappears into the distance.
Then Han reaches over and takes her hand again.
"Mrs. Han," he says, testing the words for the first time.
"You're never going to stop saying that, are you?"
His grin grows wider as he leans back in his seat.
Tomorrow they would fly to Nice, France, where the next two weeks would be spent wandering colorful streets, eating too many pastries, watching sunsets along the Mediterranean, and enjoying their first adventure as husband and wife.
But tonight wasn't about the honeymoon.
Tonight was about the journey there.
The bubbles still floating through the air behind them.
Han glances over at Y/N one more time and smiles.
The day had been perfect.
Not because everything went exactly according to plan.
Not because every detail had been flawless.
But because at the end of it all, she was sitting beside him.
Exactly where she belonged.
As the lights of the manor faded into the distance and the road stretched ahead of them, Han intertwined his fingers with hers and squeezed gently.
For the first time all day, there was nowhere else he needed to be.
Home was sitting right beside him.
Thank you so much for reading Golden Hour. ☀️💛
I knew from the beginning that I wanted Han's wedding story to feel different from the others. Han is someone who feels deeply, but he's also playful, funny, and endlessly affectionate. Rather than focusing on tears and heartbreak, I wanted this story to capture the warmth, laughter, and comfort that comes with finding your person.
The Scottish Highlands felt like the perfect setting for him—peaceful, beautiful, and full of that golden glow that seemed to follow the entire day. From the yellow roses to the sunset over the hills, I wanted everything to feel like stepping into a memory you'd never want to leave.
One of my favorite parts to write was the vows. Han and Y/N teasing each other in the middle of such an important moment felt very true to who they are. Love isn't always grand speeches and dramatic declarations; sometimes it's laughing together while promising to spend the rest of your lives choosing each other.
And of course, I couldn't resist having Han sing Beautiful Things during their first dance. It felt like something he'd do without even realizing it—completely caught up in the moment and focused only on the person standing in front of him.
The bubble send-off and honeymoon to Nice, France were the perfect ending for a day filled with sunlight, happiness, and new beginnings. No dramatic goodbye. No bittersweet ending. Just excitement for everything still waiting ahead.
Thank you for spending this Golden Hour with Han and Y/N.
Until the next story. ☀️💛
