Drunk shopping online part 6, finale; I had been looking for some bandits, a slaad, and some grung and I ended up with duplicates of all of those due to a combination of alcohol and post Christmas online sales. The last piece of all of that is this black slaad that I picked up on Etsy, it was advertised as a red slaad but I had already painted one of the previous slaads red before this one came in.

So I ended up with twice as many Miniatures as I had initially intended, but I regret nothing as I really enjoyed painting all of them, and I'm sure they will come in handy on the tabletop.

Black paint jobs are difficult to highlight without turning them into gray paint jobs.

Drunk shopping online part 2; One Slaad, two slaad, red slaad, blue slaad! Like I said previously, I was looking for some bandits and slaad minis online when I had been drinking and went to various places, and these two, I'd only meant to purchase one, are from Reaper Minis. They are listed as Chaos Toad, Savage. This makes me wonder if there are other varieties of Chaos Toad; civilized, moody, spiteful, witty, and what miniatures for those different Chaos Toads would look like.

Don't quote me because I only saw this mentioned briefly and I really need to go back and have a read. But I briefly saw something about slaadi being creative commons now. 

As someoene who does ttrpg stuff I am a bit late to the OGL commentary. That being said, I am not great with talking legal jargon. So there are better people out there that can explain it more in depth.

Daily D&D Monster: Slaad

From the recesses of the most chaotic, unreal dimensions come the slaad, a race of xenomorphic frogmen whose only goal is to conquer planet after planet, replacing the dominant species with their own kind. The only thing stopping them is a lack of moisture, which their skin can't take. So, aside from the odd portal or two, slaad are mostly annoying. But, as they continue in their plans of domination, much has been learned about just how they managed to do this. All slaadi start out as a catfish-sized tadpole, which bursts out of the opening between the ribcage and pelvis. Depending on who they burst out of, they'll develop into one of three types: men make red slaad, women make blue slaad, and magic-users make green slaad. Red and Blue slaad are dead ends, acting as either grunt-level warriors or living hatcheries for new tadpoles. But Green slaad can develop, after gaining enough arcane knowledge of the mystical parasites, into a grey slaad, a cocoon structure. Before they spin this though, they must capture another slaad and stuff them into the cocoon as well. What comes out is a death slaad, a monstrous heap of frog and parasitic juice. Whereas the others are mere annoyances to humans, death slaad are true threats, frog berserkers able to wreak havok no matter the moisture. Each death slaad is different, they may have a range of abilities, depending on which combination was used to create them. But, while these are pretty spooky, slaad on the whole are less of a threat to the planet than you might think. -- I struggled to change this too much, because they're ALIEN FROG XENOMORPHS, like, how could I improve on a concept that original???

So, in 1981, I got ahold of a copy the Fiend Folio, the first collection of monsters published by TSR, after they released the Monster Manual.  In it I found three of my favorite monsters: the githyanki (p.p. 43-45), the grell (p.p. 46-48), and the slaad (p.p. 80-83).  Since those early days, all three have made multiple appearances on Rilmorn and in various other settings, but slaadi have held…
