Can you grace us with some more Slaga & Guthláf headcannon? 🐩
Aw, thank you for so generously indulging me by teeing up chances to keep talking about Guthláf and Wíd! You’re the best! ♥️ I think dogs are an amazing gift to humankind, so all my best fictional guys have one. About Slaga:
Like Guthláf, Slaga is a survivor of the Great Fire of 3006, which destroyed an entire section of Edoras in one night. He escaped from a collapsing house with some burns on his little tummy and was found wandering in the ruins a few days later. Someone brought him in to get checked by the healers, and that’s where he came across Guthláf, who was being treated for his own chest and stomach burns. Reeling from the death of his whole family, Guthláf was desperate for something to love/to love him, so he kept Slaga.
He was still a tiny puppy, and Guthláf named him “Killer” thinking he might be a hunting dog someday. But he never really grew much and topped out at a whopping 11 pounds. Like almost all little dogs, he had a big attitude and hated animals that were larger than him. For that reason, he did NOT get along with Guthláf’s horse, Syndrigan, whose tail would whisk him in the face and was always almost stepping on him. He did like to hang out in the stable, though, because he LOVED rolling around in the dirty stall bedding (even if that meant he’d have to get a bath, which he was much less enthused about).
He had virtual free run of the barracks during the day when Guthláf was at training, and the guys would occasionally find random sticks or bones hidden in their shoes or buried in the blankets of their beds if Slaga had been in their rooms that day. He was a chewer, so if he didn’t have a stick or a bone he’d get into trouble (as noted in the story, he was a menace to Wíd’s boot laces, and on two different occasions he ate a pair of Guthláf’s dice). But no one really minded his mischief, and he was treated as the little mascot of Barracks A.
Theoretically, he slept on a cushion at the foot of the bed, but sometime in the night he would always get up and worm his way in to sleep cuddled up with Guthláf. Any time the éored rode out and neither Guthláf nor Wíd could take care of him, he stayed at Elfhelm’s house and got (further) spoiled rotten by Elfhelm’s wife.
Other likes: Apples, naps, Wíd, mud, being taken on horseback rides where he sat in a special little saddle bag Guthláf made for him (this gave him a feeling of superiority over Syndrigan)
Other dislikes: Little kids who pulled his tail, belly rubs (irritating to his burn scars), getting shooed out of the mess hall every time he snuck in, getting shooed off the bed when Guthláf and Wíd were using it for non-sleeping purposes…
Slaga was already 13 when Guthláf died, but he lived a few more good years as Wíd’s dog. When he finally died, Wíd buried him by Guthláf’s family barrow.
With the latest Overwatch teaser being a (rocket powered?) flail, or Slaga (in Swedish) of some kind..is Brigitte now locked down as hero 27? My analysis (recorded live!) here!
In before it’s a triple bamboozle....another Swedish hero, or someone Brigitte / Torb designed a weapon for.......XD
