We mentioned last week that Catherine Cawood is currently the best character on TV and this episode proved it once again. We enjoyed her lighter side, telling ribald stories on the work night out and later joking with son Daniel about her “effortlessly overwhelming charisma.” We saw her protective nature, as she mothered protégé Ann and gently told Neil: “Tell me what I can do to support you.” And we witnessed the fierce lioness in her, warning Neil not to break vulnerable Clare’s heart and vowing vengeance on the gift-giver. Like last week, she also lamented how Tommy Lee Royce will haunt her family forever: “It’ll never go away, will it?”
