BACKSTORY

the Montesinos family is a name of power and influence in Spain. Marissa is the daughter of Juan, a politician, and Miranda, a CEO... so it's safe to say that they put a lot of pressure on their only daughter to succeed.

but marissa was nothing but a disappointment ever since she reached high school. parties, booze, drugs and meaningless sex were a part of her daily routine; that also meant that she was in the headlines a lot... because who doesn't want a scandal about the politician's daughter ??

her parents, not wanting any more scandals, shipped her off to Toronto when she turned 17. some people would guess that she would keep up her act, but being isolated from her family made her try to be better... which she did... and ended up in one of Canada's Ivy League.

Carl is the daughter of a North Carolina Congressman and a transfer student to the school. She’s never really gotten along with her family or any of the people from her hometown really, a feeling of resentment coming from her for everything they stand for. The only person in her family she was ever really close to and felt that could understand her was her Aunt Janice, who passed away in 1997 and caused Carl to pull away from her parents even more.

She comes from a super conservative family and was the first to break the mold and become her own person, not what her parents wanted her to be. For that they sent her off to school for fear that she’d get in the way of his upcoming re-election and really how much further can you get than Charleston?

Most things she does in life she does to rebel against them, even in calling herself Carl instead of Carlee which they absolutely despise. Almost all of her bad habits started as ways to get back at them which just spiraled into them becoming routine for her. 

She’s all about just living your best life and doing whatever makes you happy, She doesn’t see the point in beating yourself up and worrying about things She definitely has a tendency to fall into super lazy habits though and skips class to sleep or smoke more than she should.

Despite that she’s actually super smart but chooses not to apply herself, partially because she’s lazy and partially because she feels like if she does well and people start to put faith in her she’ll just end up letting them down. 

She’s is incredibly loving and accepting though, super nice and caring for her friends, wanting everyone to be able to feel open and accepted around her, no matter who they are. 

Right now she wants to make her own films, documentaries mostly, so you’ll constantly see her with her handheld digicam, recording things around campus and making her own little documentary on student life at charleston.

Her roommate : Who she may or may not annoy with her general untidiness and smelling like weed pretty constantly. Aight I’m super jet lagged but wanted to get a kind of eh intro for Addy before I pass out: (tw suicidal thoughts sorta and drugs)

- Addy is pretty much the worst, she doesn’t care about anyone and actually puts herself in harms way any chance she can get since the only thing she doesn’t care about more than others is herself. No amount of being nice to her will fix that, she’s a garbage gremlin with no redeemable qualities honestly

- She actually is interested in her major even though it might not seem like it in her classes, usually she’s found in the back rows sleeping or just sprawled on her desk tapping away with her pen doing nothing. She doesn’t have a plan for a profession with biology but right now her parents are just relieved their daughter maintains good grades in her courses. It’s enough to know that she puts effort into something in her life. 

- She is supposed to wear glasses most of the time since her vision is horrible but Addy is so bad at keeping track of them that they always end up lost or broken. Probably adds into why she doesn’t bother to put in the effort during classes, and if she does find them they’re usually buried deep in her bag, under her bed or on her head.

- She deals on the side, mostly simple shit that is popular with college students like weed and adderall (mostly why she goes by addy by those in the school population who know her) but funny enough she doesn’t do any of it herself. All the twenty year old has is an addiction to cigarettes that she can’t kick. Trying to make friends with her won’t get you any deals though, that’s just business baby. 

- Will most definitely encourage bad ideas. Want to trespass on private property? Sounds like a fun trip to Disneyland to her. Going way over your alcohol limit at some shitty local bar? Sure why not, here’s another shot you only live once.
