BOWIE KNIGHT. XXII. CHILL OUT! what you're yelling for? lay back, it's all been done before and if, you could only let it be, you will see i like, you the way you are when we're, driving in your car and you're, talking to me one on one but you become somebody else 'round everyone else; you're watching your back like you can't relax you're trying to be cool but you look like a fool to me
“no, i’m not. quite the contrary…” jeremy simpered. “by the way, it happened over twenty-five years ago… i personally don’t believe the guy is still around.” he shrugged as he took another swig from his bottle. he was amused when marissa insisted that she could protect him. “damn, i’m so lucky. what would i do without you?” his gaze shifted for a moment. “pft. why would you wanna live forever? that’s so corny.” he added, “i would rather burn out… i don’t wanna grow weak and die… just gradually disappear… if you know what i mean.” jeremy was not drunk but the alcohol was starting to help him relax. “it’s ‘cause you’re young… young people think they’re immortal.” however, he understood her feelings of not wanting to be alone. in fact, he has been that way for awhile. “you couldn’t call one of those cute college boys you talk to? instead, you had to call me? wow, you must have been really lonely…” he continued nonchalantly, “eh, nothing’s been on my mind besides the same ol’ bullshit. work… auditions… school… it’s getting boring if you ask me.”
" why not ?? the police just supposed that it was a missing professor and closed the case. yes, I know they shot the slasher and he fell on the lake, but then again, the cops never found the body. so, if the slasher was, i don't know, in his twenties, he would be in his forties now... which isn't that old and he could still be around, " marissa rambled, sitting again and taking a swig of her bottle before glancing to her friend. " isn't what you said a form of, " her eyebrows furrowed, eyes closing as she tried to find the word and when she did, they opened with a proud smile on her lips, " existential nihilism ?? " taking another drag from her cigar, marissa rolled her eyes and playfully shoved jeremy. " cute college boys are fucking assholes. they think they are some sort of greek gods that can do whatever without facing consequences. i'm over them, " she stated and with another swig of the beer, she pointed at him, " you are bored because you are not having sex, that’s for sure. i can be your wingman if you want. i have five star reviews on that department. "
lucas had his head buried deep into a book. he preferred the library atmosphere as it was quiet; it allowed him to focus without any distractions. he turned his head for a moment to see what marissa was doing. she looked incredibly bored; she kept checking her watch. lucas could not help but chuckle when she slammed her face into her book. he replied, “we’ve only been here fifteen minutes… i thought this was supposed to be a study session.” he did not think marissa was dumb. in fact, he felt quite the opposite; maybe he was a tad jealous in her abilities to pull a’s and b’s without even studying much. however, there was no such thing as too much studying when it came to college. “how about this? after we study, i’ll treat you to something… up to you. does that motivate you?” he smiled.
" a study session that is boring me to death, " she whined and slid the book a few centimeters away from her, acting like a spoiled girl who didn't get the gift she wanted for her birthday. usually, her dramatics was... well, less dramatic, but reading about what culminated the creation of united nations and the pacts signed by the participant countries, was too boring for her. her hand raised to serve as a base for her chin as she heard lucas' proposition; a mischevious smile finding a way into her lips as she turned to him. " anything ?? " marissa asked, her brows quirking up, " so if i asked for you to drive me to the zoo so i could steal a penguin, would you do it ?? " the question was absurd, yes, but if that kept the conversation going, she would hold on to it until there was no other way but go back to be bored by the book, " or if i asked you to crash a funeral, would you do it ?? "
━━━━━━ clementine couldn’t help but smile sincerely as she watched her roommate do a twirl. she was beautiful ; marissa could be a model , she thought. “ i could find inspiration in just ‘bout anythin’, ” she explained. “ and you ? well – it’s easy to be inspired by you. ” which was the truth. the two girls were so … . different. plus , marissa is a pretty girl. & clementine was inspired by pretty things. “ hey , uh .. this is completely off topic but .. how have you been lately? ”
a delighted giggle escaped marissa's lips as she shook her head at clementine's comment. " i didn't know you were such a flirt, clem !! i'm impressed and intrigued, " she joked, her whole demeanor shifting with her roommate's question. green eyes diverted from the other girl for a small fraction. marissa knew that clem's question was innocent, but she was well aware of her wrongdoings for the past months, and the last thing she wanted was to worry the other. with that in mind, she looked back at her with a fake confused look and a snicker, " i've been good, why the question ?? "
“ right. ” it shouldn’t have been all that surprising, the fact that she hadn’t gone home after everything changed. still, a part of him wished that she would have gotten to go back home—wished that he could have gone through with it all for her. but those were all wishes he could add to the list of things he couldn’t give her.
his eyes diverted away from hers, his shoulders straightening as his weight shifted ever so slightly. the feeling’s mutual — that much he knew for certain. even after months of finally breaking the news to them that they weren’t together anymore, they still asked after her. how’s marissa ? have you heard from marissa ? have you thought about talking to marissa ? and his least favourite recently, maybe you can figure it all out with marissa when you see her at cu. when they’d first met her, the fact that they seemed to adore her as much as he adored her had only brought a feeling of elation, it had been the icing on the cake. but now ? now he wished that he’d never even introduced them to her in the first place. it would have made things easier.
“ they’re good. ” he replied, the tone of his voice edging on something far colder than he truly intended, as his focus fell upon her once more. an action that caused every sharper edge to soften just as quickly as they’d been created seconds ago. none of this was her fault, it was an innocent question. one he appreciated more than she’d know. “ they’ve been asking after you if i’m honest, what you’re doing—how you are. ” his lips hesitated around the words he wanted to utter, but the weaker part of him won out. the part of him that had been caught by the previous widening of green eyes that always made him crumble. “ how are you by the way ? ”
a satisfied faint smile appeared with the mention that his family also asked after her. she remembered how nervous she felt the days leading to meeting his parents, hoping and praying that she would meet with their expectations— even pulling out her talent for baking of the shadows and making a cake so she wouldn't arrive empty-handed at their house. within the first minutes of the encounter, her worries succumbed and Marissa had adored his family ever since— most of it relied on how different they were from her family. the montessino's were cold and practical, while the stanton's were warm and genuine.
her nose scrunched up at the question, her shoulders rolling back and fixing her posture. If anything, she was far from being okay; having to look at the mirror every morning and giving herself a pep talk to have a nice day only to find herself at night with her best friend jack daniels wondering where did she go wrong and if she was everything that her parents thought of her— unlovable, perverted, obnoxious were some of the words that popped on her mind every so often— but theo didn't need to know that. it wasn’t his business, at least not anymore.
" fine, " a heaved word as her eyes locked on his, her heart fluttering once again as she noticed every feature she had learned to love and now had to fight to forget, " i'm fine, focusing on myself and all that, " she repeated in a firmer tone as without elongating to not be caught in a lie. " how about you ?? did the rugby practices start already ?? "
jeremy and marissa were sitting on the crosswalk, smoking and drinking. “calling me out at night? isn’t that dangerous, especially with a murderer on the loose?” he smirked and took a drag from his cigarette. “smoking is terrible, but i guess it wouldn’t be so pleasurable if it were good for you. i guess this little fire stick will kill me before a murderer does.” jeremy turned to marissa, “something on your mind these days?” there must be a reason why she called him out. there really was not any romantic tension between the two individuals; he regarded her as a little sister. he has never had any siblings, so she was the closest thing to a sister he has ever had.
marissa almost choked on the beer with jeremy's question, a roll of eyes as her face turned to him. " puh-lease, don't tell me you are scared of the slasher ?? " the question was slurred— alcohol already showing its effects on the blonde— mimicking the smirk that was on her friend's face, " you have nothing to worry about. i'm here to protect you, i mean look at this gun, " marissa flexed her arm and chuckled at her action, " the slasher is the one who should be afraid when this is out to get him. " her back leaned down on the crosswalk, eyes fixed on the onyx sky as she took a drag of her cigarette. " the murder and the lil fire stick can kiss my ass, because, " she extended her arms at the sky and yelled between giggles, " i'mma live forever bitch. " at his question, she scrunched her nose and shrugged, there were a lot of things on her mind these days— one person, in particular— but nothing that marissa would share; at least not yet. " guess i just didn't want to be alone tonight. how 'bout you ?? something on your mind these days ?? "
anyone who talked to marissa could learn in fifteen minutes that the library was far from being her favorite place; if she could avoid going there, she would in a heartbeat. but like any rule, there was an exception to the petite blonde and that was lucas. they had probably been in the library for fifteen minutes, but for the girl felt like it had passed an eternity; so when she confirmed on the small watch around her wrist that they had many hours to go, marissa let out a grunt and her head fell to the open book in front of her. " i can't, " the words muffled, and she raised her head starting to dramatically fake whine to get Lucas' sympathy, " i can't anymore, lucas. i ... i just can't. i'm dropping out. "
to other’s ears the question that left marissa’s lips was something that was routinely asked. something that held no connotations other than someone being simply polite. but theo wasn’t others. he knew exactly what lurked beneath the seemingly innocent question and there was no ignoring the way his stomach twisted as his eyes lingered upon downturned features—features that still seemed so familiar even after months spent trying to forget them. the past summer was meant to be one for the books, something that could have filled a photo album—travelling across the north atlantic to meet the parents of the girl he loved was no small thing after all. but maybe that was part of the reason why he’d never even made it to the airport. the composed facade upon his features threatened to falter, breaking apart to reveal the way her words had cut deeper than he ever thought such a question could bring, but he remained centred. the only small tell of the discomfort within him visible in the way his fingers shifted upon the cup in hand. he’d broken up with her, he had no reason to be so affected, he deserved every little cutting comment. his lips pressed together as eyes diverted for a single moment with a shrug of his shoulders, “ it was a summer, can’t really complain about anything. but it was nothing special. ” nothing compared to what could have been at least. he hesitated for a moment, eyes taking a quick sweep over her small frame—he didn’t want to even begin to let his mind wander to the thoughts that threatened to break through. it was a touchy topic, one that could only bring up problems, but his lips still managed to form around the words, “ did you make it back home for the summer ? ”
his choice of word to describe his summer made marissa's reply be a small hum. special. that was what she thought they had together— something special, magical even, but most importantly, something worth fighting for— obviously, she was wrong, because if they did they would be on a different position than they are now; one that loving him made her heart feel elated, not like now that her whole body hurt at the sight of him. she always prided herself on being a strong girl that stood her ground, yet when it came to theo, no matter how much he hurt her or how much she tried to get over him, she'd go back to him in a heartbeat if he wanted to. In other words, she was a fool for him, but could someone blame her when he was the first person she thought of a future with?
her lips pressed together forming a thin line and marissa shook her head, " no, " she looked up to him, her expression could be compared to a sad puppy, " the whole going home thing lost its charm. " and it had since the sole reason for her to go was theo. it was a big step for both of them going overseas; a step that faltered the minute he said those fateful words that sent marissa back to a path she thought she had the closed the door to. looking down at her feet, her hand raised to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear— a nervous habit she unknowingly had— for a second she considered to let everything that she hadn't said to him out, but all could she muster as she looked up back at him was, " how's the family ?? " followed by a mutter before sipping on her brew, " i miss them. "
—– clementine rolled her eyes playfully & let out a small laugh. “ i probably could draw you from memory if i’m bein’ honest. ” – how could she not be able to ? it was the face she’d gone home to every ( well… most ) nights. “ it’d just be … real creepy to draw you in your sleep. ” she cringed her teeth together. “ how ‘bout when you’re watching t.v or somethin’? ” … that was only a half-joke because she really needed this practice.
a hand touched the left side of her chest as she mocked a relieved sigh. " that makes me feel ten percent better, but I will only be satisfied when I'm your only muse. i mean, look at me, " marissa extended both of her arms, doing a little twirl, " i was born to be someone's muse, " a delighted chuckle escaped marissa's lips masking the previous statement as a joke, though the blonde believed on it completely. " well, if you find the inspiration to draw me on my silk pajamas with a bowl of popcorn, i don't see why not, " she joked with an elated smile at her roommate; lately, Marissa had been on a bad funk, but somehow clem's presence was a rush of bliss for her— unable to stop smiling and joking around.
it was only two weeks in and he was already bordering on exhausted the majority of the time, the brew was about the only place he’d dare step foot in that had exactly what he needed — caffeine. it was about the only thing that was keeping him going at this point and he’d be willing to bet that the substance had well an truly become a permanent fixture within his bloodstream. it had gotten to the point where he only had to shot a smile and a quick wave in the direction of the girl behind the counter for his order to be made, but being so familiar with a place had its downfall. maybe if he’d taken a second to study the space around him, he would have saved himself from stepping foot into a situation he was dreading. his fingers had barely closed around the takeaway cup before her name was leaving the barista’s lips. he’d managed a whole week, but he knew it was inevitable. seeing her, being around her, it was inevitable. slowly, his head angled just enough to catch a small glimpse of her for the first time in MONTHS and against his better judgement, a single useless word slipped from his lips, “ hey. ”
with clothes of a night well spent stuck on her tiny frame lingered with the smell of alcohol mixed with what had left of her signature perfume as she walked into the brew. the familiar scent of coffee that once relaxed marissa to the point of a genuine smile illuminated her features were met by a cross of arms and a polite smile that never reached her eyes while ordering her usual. the wait for her name to be called wasn't long, but time seemed to have stopped once her eyes settled on what she used to refer to as their table. the little table in the corner that was a set to many joyous memories of a past that belonged to her facet that she didn't know anymore; the one who was utterly happy and in love. the reminiscence was broken by the call of her name, eyes blinking to stop the tears that were threatening to fall as she moved to grab her cold brew unaware of who she was standing next to. the croak of a familiar voice made her glance up, a shiver going down her spine and her heart fluttering with the sight of theo. she should have turned around, leave him there and not putting herself in a situation that could only bring more bad than good; but marissa wasn't known for making good and she missed him. that was enough of a reason to engage in that conversation. “ hi, ” she said monotonously, still feeling strange that she couldn’t kiss him though being months since their break up. her attention shifted to the cup in her hands as a question rolled out of her lips; a simple question but that between them was a bitter remark on marissa's part, " how was your summer ?? ”
donning the neon orange shirt with the large waving owl on the front, brent stood in the middle of the green with a clip board in hand. turning his cap to the brim was to the back, he approached a student walking alone ( he had found that it was easier than trying to corral a group into answering any of his questions ). ❛ hey, you got a minute to take a survey for the student government? you get a shirt and a free coffee voucher for the brew if you do. ❜
" a shirt and a coffee voucher, " marissa scoffed with a roll of eyes, a hand resting on her hip and her head tilted to the side. " i'm sorry, but that was supposed to make me want to take the survey ?? " her eyebrows raised inquisitively with underlining mockery, before shaking her head, " you can tell the student government they need a better tactic to make people take this survey because a pretty face can't do all the job if the ' prizes ' aren't fresh. "
❝ is there anything supposed to be happening this weekend ? ❞ an innocent question posed by lilith, matched with the sly rogue smirk that so contrasted with the lighthearted shine in her dark eyes, ❝ it’s just like, i want to live j u s t a little bit this semester before my professors and boss decide to merge and obliterate my work/life balance — you get it ? ❞
“ nothing that i know of, but that doesn't mean we can't make something happen, " the corner of marissa's lips curving in a devious smirk before taking a drag of her cigarette, " and puh-lease, if someone can balance those two, it's you, chica. and that's the nicest thing you are getting out of me today. "
—- heart pounding , palms sweaty … . somehow asking people to pose so she can practice her art never gets any easier. clementine let out a sigh as she approached the other . a gentle tap on the shoulder. “ h–hey , i know this is real outta’ the blue but i was wonderin’ if you’d let me . . draw you? just for some practice. ”
“ standing still is not my forte, clem. the only time i am moveless is when i'm sleeping. maybe you can draw me then, " marissa joked lightheartedly, a quick suck on the already glistening lollipop before pointing at the other with the candy. " i am quite offended that you can't draw me by memory, though. i should be your muse of some sorts. "

BACKSTORY
the Montesinos family is a name of power and influence in Spain. Marissa is the daughter of Juan, a politician, and Miranda, a CEO... so it's safe to say that they put a lot of pressure on their only daughter to succeed.
but marissa was nothing but a disappointment ever since she reached high school. parties, booze, drugs and meaningless sex were a part of her daily routine; that also meant that she was in the headlines a lot... because who doesn't want a scandal about the politician's daughter ??
her parents, not wanting any more scandals, shipped her off to Toronto when she turned 17. some people would guess that she would keep up her act, but being isolated from her family made her try to be better... which she did... and ended up in one of Canada's Ivy League.
choosing her major was quite easy. to quote gina linetti, she has great hair and loves lying... she was born for politics.
although trying to keep out of trouble... she has gone to every party since her first year. you didn't invite her ?? oh well, she'll be there. because is not a party if she's not there.
she really thought she could become what her parents dreamed
though my girl spiraled back to her old party self when she broke up with ex #1. she's trying to control herself because she doesn't want to worry anyone, acting all cool and chill, but she's not and you can see that bc she smokes two packs of cigars a day and is always on red bull.
if you watch euphoria, you know that scene that rue says she is a fucking genius when she’s trying to figure out the shit that went down between nate and jules ??? well, that’s marissa at 3 am when she’s trying to figure out who is the murderer after 7 cans of red bull.
PERSONALITY
she doesn't discriminate, she talks to everyone. but she's that type of person that will talk shit behind your back... and call you out on your shit.
she is cool and collected most of the times with a witty sense of humor like any lady should be, but when she is mad ???? a fucking volcano and takes hours for her to cool down. she will absolutely throw hands if anyone tries to fuck with her loved ones. and yet, she’s still a complete girly girl through and through. i guess she’s passioned ??
afraid of failure ?? hell yes. will she go to a party before exam weeks starts when she didn't even touch a book ?? hell fucking yes.
have you watched how i met your mother ?? you know how barney always accepts a challenge ?? marissa is the same. no matter how difficult or if it’s breaking a law, she’ll do it. especially if she’s drunk/high/whatever.
WANTED CONNECTIONS
roommate: marissa is most likely a pain in the ass for them, her side of the room is messy and she is always postponing to clean it. not to mention you never know if she will show up or not in their dorm at night. but other than that, marissa holds them in a close friends status and is ready to fight a bitch if they cross her roommate. taken by clementine dunaway
ex #1: opposites attract kind of situation, people always wondered how they even got together in the first place but they seemed to work very well together. marissa thought they would go to the distance, it was the first guy she thought about building a family with and all those childlike dreams. lingering feelings and how/why they broke up to be discussed ?? taken by theo stanton
ex #2: started as a rebound from ex #1 for her, but the relationship blossomed and they were quite happy for a while. she had feelings for them but wasn't as intense and so she decided to break up with them to not lead them on. if they broke up in good or bad terms to be discussed ?? if it's good terms, maybe they became friends or friends with benefits ?? if it's bad terms... well, she thinks she was on the right to break up with them so she just pictures them as a petty ass bitch and is a little shit to them.
girl squad: what is a girl without her trusted girl squad ?? marissa is a ride or die, so if you are on her squad she'll go to the depths of hell for you with no questions asked.
sibling like relationship: self explanatory ?? probably someone to keep her from doing bad, crazy shit all the time. teasing each other endlessly but there’s nothing one wouldn’t do for the other.
mulder & scully: SOMEONE TO BE HER PARTNER ON CONSPIRACIES THEORIES. she might act like a cool girl, but she has a vast knowledge of conspiracies and will not shut up if you get her started. taken by laurena rojas
study buddies: doesn't need to be from the same major as her, it's just someone that can be authoritative enough to make marissa go to the library and get a book, instead of thinking she's thanos after getting A's or B's without studying.
random hookups: self-explanatory as well ?? she still hits you on that nokia 3210 late night when she needs your love. or someone to drink with.
