lycan behaviours, aptitudes, rules, regulations & sanctioning.
packs are constructed in a smiliar manner to hierarchies & the alpha has the final decision with influence from the council ( a small group made up of elders. ) the pack in question ( wolf's ) functions under a strict series of regulations that have been in place for centuries in order to maintain secrecy & safety.
prohibited actives include :
- shifting partially or fully in public or infront of humans. - involving humans in the matters of the lycan. - bringing humans to the lycan's place of residence ( if they live within the pack's accommodation) - disclosing private information to other packs & or humans. - partaking in relations with a human. ( this rule used to exclude females from other packs & rogues also but was later altered. )
it is imperative that the members of the pack live by these rules in order to prevent human intervention in their lives -- the elders lived in a time where they were relentlessly hunted for being 'different' along-side other creatures of "supernatural" heritage.
Abilities :
lycans are NOT immortal, they have life spans that far surpass the regular human && are difficult to kill but are not un-killable; behedding, full destruction of the brain & or heart ( if these organs are damaged the wolf will sucumb to a coma like state but will make a full recovery once it has healed. )
telepathy: mostly used in order to communicate in wolf form although rather than with words it is done so with images & emotions. it is at its most potent when both parties are of blood relation ( same pack ) or have a deep bond. ( when it's a bond ' pact ' rather than blood it can come on abruptly & painfully, often in bright flashes & is often affiliated with extremely intense emotions eg, anger or fear. )
shifting : between a human facade & the true beast within they can change; at first it is an involuntary behaviour which, for the lycan in question, is agonising -- later in life it becomes something they can will; it is almost as if the human's consciousness dissolves & all that is left is the wolf -- even when the lycan reaches this point it's still uncomfortable to watch. partial changes aren't common but do occur especially in regards to strong emotions eyes are often the most affected ( changing from it's natural colour to a very distinct gold. ) but teeth & nails are known to sharpen.
sanctioning : it's not unlike wolves to cast out threats to their survival; exile is not uncommon but is not the most frequent means of punishing someone who rebels, often they are re-conditioned by a group of elders & after passing a thorough examination they are allowed back in the pack.
wolf's circimstances are a little different. frenzied with grief at the loss of her child his fiance took matters into her own hands && in a jealous fit attacked a couple && their child while half transformed ( this wasn't just eyes -- this was mangled , hairy limbs; snarling, salivating ) && it took the pack abusing their connection to destroy the memories of those individuals that could have been potentially perilous to their pack.
she was a liability.
they attempted to offer her a way out but she was adamant that it was their fault that her child died -- that their medical facilities had been insufficient, that they'd wanted her child to die as it was from the out-side.
the death sentence wasn't what they wanted for her but it was what she was put to -- it's a macabre, ancient ritual where certain members of the pack ( often they put themselves up to it & if they don't the alpha will select them ) are to attack the 'traitor' in question -- they carve away at the individual in question until they are practically dead -- the alpha then liberates them of their sin ( it's a very long passage ) as it allows them to rejoin their pack in the starry plains before tearing out their jugular.
You drink too damn much because you're trying to hide from all the shit you've seen and done. How many of those Tal Vashoth on Seheron were really savage? How many did you slaughter who were just trying to survive? How many since? You know what's really wrong with you. You're the savage one, and one day your mind will snap and you will slaughter everyone closest to you.
If it had been before, there would have been an argument. Flying chairs, broken noses and spitting blood. Spilled drinks and roars of dominating victory.
Not now. Not anymore. Losing the Qun, losing the foundations to who he was meant to be, brought him crashing down to the harsh reality of his transgressions. What good was he now besides a blade to be pointed in the direction of what needed killing? He was no better than the murderous Tal-Vashoth that would slaughter a Tamassran and her unit of kids with a sick grin on their face.
Guilt did not form on his features. Anger twisted in his belly instead, bubbling until boiling through his veins.
“Oh really? You’re pretty damn close to me right now, so unless you want me to snap and slaughter you this very instant, I suggest you fuck off.”
