Day 89: Oskar Török/Jiří Slavík/Vít Křišťan (Self-Titled Album)

This recommendation I am about to make is a bit out of the ordinary. The music is great and totally worth recommending. But it’s an exception to what I usually listen to. It’s neither classics nor indie/alternative rock. It’s jazz. And to make it even more of an exception, it’s Czech. Or Czech and Slovak, to be precise. This straightforwardly named album is the project of Vít Křišťan (piano, Rhodes) of Inner Spaces, The Prague Six and Concept Art Orchestra, Jiří Slavík (double bass, clarinet) and Oskar Török (trumpet, vocals) from Vertigo, Points and Čikori. You will have trouble looking for any percussions on this album which opened up possibilities to explore the full breadth of the double bass sound spectrum, complete color of the piano and trumpet. And it creates a very atmospheric and intimate sounding album. Which then forces the listener to pay even closer attention and listen with a more focus. Křehká (Fragile) is the song that got me hooked and made me listen to the whole album. I was convinced I recogized something I’ve heard in a film lately. It does sound a lot like something from a film soundtrack. But I was wrong. Nejistota (Uncertainty) starts with a long melancholic Rhodes and trumpet part with a sonic colour and mood of a good František Vláčil film ( Údolí včel / The Valley of the Bees, Markéta Lazarová, Dým bramborové natě / Smoke on the Potato Fields). But then it breaks into a playfull jamming session of clapping and double bass and meanders on and on like water in a stream.

Kanón (Canon) is a short but fast paced happy track filled with twirling piano and whizzing trumpet. And a single drum stroke at the end. Krátká studie pohybu (A short study of movement) is a crafty piece of stringed little dance scenes with a varied rythm. Or maybe it’s an articulated marching walk. Hard to say. But it’s playful and focus gripping. You would be hard pressed to find more relaxing music for a lazy summer evening.

Rodák z Ústí nad Labem, Michael Měchura, získal stříbrnou medaili v rakouském Leogangu. V závodě fourcrossu se stal vícemistrem světa již potřetí ve své kariéře a to v pouhých 21 letech. Závod jel společně s dalším z Čechů a to Tomášem Slavíkem. Slavík podruhé v kariéře získal titul mistra světa ve fourcrossu. V Leogangu opanoval už páteční kvalifikaci o čtyři desetiny před jedenadvacetiletým Měchurou a oba si vedli nejlépe i ve finále. 

“Bylo důležitý, že jsem vyhrál už kvalifikaci, mohl jsem si pak vybírat nejlepší dráhu. Trať byla těžká, hlavně fyzicky. Pošetřil jsem dost sil v semifinále, když se tam kluci smotali a já mohl jen tak dojet do cíle,” řekl serveru mtbs.cz Tomáš Slavík. 

V samotném finále se strhl souboj mezi Slavíkem a Měchurou, ale to se také po kvalifikaci předpokládalo. “Věděl jsem, že bude chtít útočit. Naštěstí jsem to ale odrazil a udržel vedení až do cíle. Je to fantastický.”

Sice Měchura nevybojoval zlato, ale do budoucna na to má předpoklady.Po závodě Michael Měchura dodal: ,,Věřil jsem si na zlato. Už vloni mi těsně uniklo.“

Na třetím místě stanul Švýcar Simon Waldburger.

Biker Michael Měchura je vicemistrem světa ve fourcrossu Rodák z Ústí nad Labem, Michael Měchura, získal stříbrnou medaili v rakouském Leogangu. V závodě fourcrossu se stal vícemistrem světa již potřetí ve své kariéře a to v pouhých 21 letech.
