Headcanons (will be updated!):
Charlotte was seventeen when the demon Ume, associated with her floral plum blossom patterns, took hold, attacking her family and nearly strangling her mother in front of her father and little sister. In her mind and spirit Charlotte fought back so ruthlessly she, in essence, turned and re-possessed the demon in order to make it stop, accidentally integrating it into her spiritual core as a side effect. Just after this, she was pulled to the Island by the Zero Point and the IO.
Now she is half-demon, and uses the power she stole from Ume to kill other demons to protect people from the fate that was almost forced on her.
Things to note:
Charlotte has spent the last three and a half years on the run from anyone who wants to use her for their own ends or kill her for being possessed. She is cynical and untrusting, and tends to put on an abrasive attitude to provoke people into leaving her alone.
She believes she is less than human, and doesn't believe in "love" or "attraction" specifically when it involves her. She doesn't believe any normal human can or should love or trust her, for their safety, and she doesn't give those out to anyone for the same reason.
She despises physical contact. The IO left a lot of scars, and living on a kill or be killed mindset in the demonic realm didn't help. She hasn't had a friendly hand laid on her since the possession, which she has also had no ability to really recover from.
