A new year and a new challenge
2014 is going to be brilliant. I just know it! For the longest time I've desired to start out as an independent designer. But the fear of the unknown held me back. No more though.
After Mehran's birth I was excited to get back to work when the time would come, but as days passed I realised I couldn't leave him with a caretaker and focus a 100% on work at an office. That's when I decided it's time to realise the dream I've had- I'm going independent!
It's a little scary, the unknown always is. I'll also miss the comfort of knowing that paycheck will hit my account every 25th. But I'm very excited to start this new chapter with my son around.
Mehran loves his sling. He can sleep for hours as long as he's being held. Not so much during the nights though!
It’s 2am and I just finished feeding my 3.5 month old baby. Yes, I am working tomorrow/today, but I’ll be okay because it is a telecommute day. Recently, I’ve found myself explaining to male professionals and executives my frustration with the “yawho” (purposely misspelled) work from home stance. I will be the first to acknowledge the power of face to face collaboration in the workplace. However, in 2013, if an online giant of a company can’t figure out how to make telecommuting work, then who can? With equal pay and glass ceilings still being issues for working women, one way to address the needs of working mothers is to create flexibility so that they can better nurture and raise our future generation. This is a great article supporting my thoughts.
