This year I'll breathe more. Life overwhelms me and I forget to breathe and enjoy what's here. So this year, I'll breathe.
Facebook has been great for me and I used it very actively over the last 5 years to communicate with and stay in touch with friends as well as for my modelling and acting work. Having studying all my life in a semi boarding school where almost all my class mates were not from the same city,...
So wrong, so right…
A new year and a new challenge
2014 is going to be brilliant. I just know it! For the longest time I've desired to start out as an independent designer. But the fear of the unknown held me back. No more though.
After Mehran's birth I was excited to get back to work when the time would come, but as days passed I realised I couldn't leave him with a caretaker and focus a 100% on work at an office. That's when I decided it's time to realise the dream I've had- I'm going independent!
It's a little scary, the unknown always is. I'll also miss the comfort of knowing that paycheck will hit my account every 25th. But I'm very excited to start this new chapter with my son around.
Mehran loves his sling. He can sleep for hours as long as he's being held. Not so much during the nights though!
Mehran Khan-Rodwittiya. Born on the 20th of September, 2013.
I still can't believe this…
I'm going to have a baby in the next 7 weeks!
Keep on keeping on.
I don't know what's more divisive, the sandstorms I left behind or the thunderstorms I walked into.
The power of a smile
My husband and I are very different. It's almost like we looked for the complete opposite of ourselves and married that person! It's amazing and interesting how our differences unite us. When I was falling in love with him, there was one thing I didn't quite get about him and yet absolutely loved- he smiled. A lot. He smiled at people passing him by, kids running around, that old lady frowning for no reason, the man selling idlis at the corner, the guards of a building he passed the first time, the dogs, the cows, the rats. He smiled. I was confused. I don't smile much, I look away from people (Because I'm very shy) So I didn't get why was he smiling. But now I do, after 3 years together. He smiles as he truly believes it can make someone's day. Initially the cynic in me just smiled at it. Lately the truth is making me smile. When we go anywhere, people go out of their way to make him happy. They'll leave their work desk and spend an hour just ensuring he's comfortable, we get special parking spots (yay), they'll go out of their way to catch his attention and smile at him. Kids, grown ups, babies, dogs (yes, I can't believe it either) all try to do things to make him notice them and smile at them. And it's one of the loveliest sights I've seen. That genuine happiness that one smile can bring is….
I like large parties. They’re so intimate. At small parties there isn’t any privacy.
This is how Mumbai makes me feel. It's so loud, so chaotic, so alien. It allows me to get lost in my thoughts and just be. You'll always be surrounded by strangers. Strangers who are wondering who is she and why is she here?
They say you're not a true New Yorker unless you've cried in public. I feel that's so true of Mumbai too. And by that definition, I'm a true Mumbaikar. I've cried once at the local train station and once in the middle of the road, lost. Surprisingly not one person came forward to ask if I was ok or if I needed help in those first few months of my introduction to this mad city. What's more surprising is I was grateful for this privacy to cry in the middle of thousands of people scurrying about.
The baby chronicles
-I've felt the baby move since week 15, some might say it's too early but I felt it! -This Friday my feet were swollen to three times their normal size. Very scary. -Gained 5kgs in the past month, doctor is very unhappy! I can't stop giggling :D -We saw the baby in a 3D sonogram today and wow. It literally took my breath away! The baby sleeps like me! It has the thinker pose down perfectly.
I wonder what I did with my hands before I had a swollen belly to caress.

Found these beautiful photographs by Mark Tipple. Do take a look at his portfolio. I loved his collection of bubbles.

“Smart quotes” vs ‘Dumb quotes’
Here's a better way of knowing when to use smart quotes and when to use dumb quotes. Yes, I didn't know either that those straight quotes were called dumb quotes, makes me feel... dumb?
Do check the link and be smart.
