Catnap
I’ll just close my eyes,
Take a moment to rest,
Sink into this soft bed,
Further under the covers.
It’ll just be a second.
I’ll stay awake I swe...
Where did the last 3 hours go?
Sleepy
Eyes are getting heavier,
My mind all covered with mist,
The words repeating on the page
My forehead being kissed.
Perhaps this all became a dream,
Yet I’m still sat awake.
I’m merely sleepy, that is all,
There’s more thoughts for me to make.
Zoned Out
A thousand things I could have heard
Misheard, incorrectly joined in with,
Caused trouble by reacting to.
A hundred things that could have helped
Possible opportunities missed,
Far fewer in number than troubles,
So probably best I blocked my ears
Drifted away with my thoughts
And left their chatter behind.
There’ll be times I’m included,
Brought into what is said,
But today this week, this month
I’ll just be zoned out instead.
Dozing
I can scroll without taking anything in
Colour with an empty mind,
Work spreadsheets barely realising it
And still ask questions of bewilderment.
It’s not my fault I was in a dose,
Half awake, half asleep but functioning the same.
I’ll stumble into the wall
But never spill my drink,
My legs seem set for a fall
But I’ll still spin and skip and jump.
The world’s a little hazy
And I’d sleep if I curled up.
I’m just a little dozy that’s all.
Lethargic
I got a week off school for this word.
And diagnosed with anaemia, I think,
It got my struggles heard,
And a response to an issue.
Still fairly certain I wasn’t lethargic,
Wasn’t feeling slow, and drained,
Like I was moving through mud.
Then I was struggling to wake up,
But the tiredness would pass,
Now when it hits it stays.
Stays through the cycling,
While sitting at the computer all day,
My thoughts turn slowly
And I’m still struggling.
But once someone else looked after me,
Heard the word lethargic
And actually responded appropriately.
Now I just push through,
Vow to get an early night
That will never really manifest,
And carry on through the fog and heaviness.
I know it will pass after all.
Drifting
Sometimes you push
Push and push towards a goal
Only to find yourself lost
Attention got diverted
You forgot the heart of the dream
And drifted off course.
So I’ll let myself a while.
Slumber
Rest now under blankets many,
Relax and let your cares dissolve.
They’ll wait till morning,
I’m sure they’ll keep,
But relax now your tired bones.
A soft expression pulls your face
That others only will see.
You’re comforted, at peace,
And lost from the world,
So slumber on sweet being,
Life will wait for you.
Flagging
Enough of being sociable
And talking through it all,
Enough of keeping focused
Working through the tired.
My energy has flagged enough
Any more you wanted is just tough.
I’m through, I’m done
I’m calling it quits,
Give it a day
Give me a week,
This stuff can wait
My energy won’t.
The patience all flagged out
And I’m gone
I’m only sleeping, resting
Recharging once more.
