The little witch breathes seethes with the spirit of the living. Yes! Yes that’s it. His spirit churns boils DISGUSTING with life. But they are many and they are strong. There is nothing they cannot choke the life out of.

He comes to watch for them at the edges of the waters of the world, the little witch. Little wretch. Does he think his stones and sticks and songs can protect him forever? Fool idiot STUPID he belongs to them they will catch him they will drain him he will be a husk on the shores of dreams until the winds of time come to shatter him and carry him away, only dust.

They can hear him calling out to them clarion clear. The sound reverberates off the surface of the water. Like thunder in the bones, they used to say, when they knew of such things, anything but hunger. The pain of empty roils at them within. They sink a small amount of themselves into the dream seas. The water is dark and the floors are deep. But the water does not hurt them.

They thrum with joy. They hunt. They hunt!

Into the water they plunge, down, down into the abyss. The shore is far, he must think himself safe. Vile. Stupid! Let the little witch run as long as he likes. Soon he will understand: he belongs to them.

This birthday giveaway drawing is for @ilral, who requested this scene from Chiaroscuro. The fic is creepy and gorgeous, and I knew right away that I wanted to do something to fit that mood. It was fun to play around with watercolor and ink to get the effect I wanted!
