Gally thinks she's just a friend. When Minho gives him the idea, he reconsiders his feelings for her...
Warnings: None
Every since she came up in the box, small, timid, alone. Gally has felt a bit protective of her. The way she looked up at him: scared, and afraid. He helped her out of the box, brining her into the light. And when she saw all the boys around her, she stepped closer to Gally. He never told anyone, but he loved it. He loved how you guys became close friends almost instantly. she only hung out with him for the first couple days, until she got used to the Glade. When she started to become closer with some of the other boys, he tried not to be jealous. He really did. he couldn't help himself. When shed choose to hang out with Newt or Minho, he would get a strange tug in his chest. He hated it. He watched you normally, not in a creepy way, he told himself, but in a protective way. When Thomas arrived in the box, Gally had watched the way you pitied him. And he hated the way you talked to him. He hated how Thomas and her had friends almost instantly. He hated Thomas because of it. Especially right now.
She is talking with Thomas and Newt. Thomas has his arm slung around her shoulder, and she is laughing at something he said. Thomas leans down, and whispers in her ear. Gally watches as her face lights up, and she laughs even more. Gally balls his hands into fists and he starts to walk over to her-
"Hey, man. You good?" Asks a familiar voice.
"Y-yeah. I'm fine." Gally says, turning around to face Minho.
Minho's eyebrow shoots up, "Really? Cause' you look like your about to beat the crap out of someone"
Galley's fist clench even harder. "I'm fine" He repeats.
"You sure? Cause-"
"I said I'm fine" Gally nearly shouts, gathering other Gladers attention.
"Geese, man. Calm down. I mean, id be that upset if some guys was acting like that," he motions towards Thomas," with a girl I like"
Galley's eyes widen, "I-I- where're just friends."
Minho gives him a look," Sure, man. Whatever you say.
Gally rolls his eyes, unclenches his fist, and turns around to see her walking towards him. She has her usual, bright smile on her face, which instantly calms him.
"Hey, Gally. You alright?" She asks, sweetly.
"Yeah, just…tired" He says, and gives her a little smile reserved for her only.
I like her as a friend. Just as a friend, Gally reminds himself. She's just a-
"Okay, good." She says, rubbing his arm.
Maybe…not only as a friend.
Newt would share meals with you. He'd always hand you an apple slice or a piece of bread without even thinking about it. When he feels you taking it, he can't but turn his head and smile at you eating.
Newt would roll your sleeves up, either when they are muddy from work or simply covering your wrists. He'd massage your hands or just hold your hands close to his chest when cuddled up. Tracing your hands and wrists calms him, makes him feel like he had something meaningful to hold onto.
Newt would dance with you, not in the middle of everyone, but in the shade of a tree with the orange hues of the bonfire barely reaching you. It would not be an act of secrecy, but one of private belonging.
Newt would make you little fabric dolls of old shirts of his. He'd use shirts with too many holes to wear as fabric, wash them, rip them apart as he needs them, and bind them together into the shapes of what is easy to grab. He'd use herbs and flowers to rub pleasant scents into the fabric, and soon, there is a collection of cute wonky faceless plushies on your matress. When you lie together, he'd explain each's plushie personality, that one accompanies ypu when you have nightmares, another one catches your tears, and the next wants to be leaning against your temple when you have a headache.
Newt would tie your shoelaces and wrap a scarf around you, basically arrange your clothes, especially in the early morning and late evening hours when the air is chilly and your hands clumsy.
Newt would ask you to sing to him while he is busy doing something. It wouldn't matter if you could sing well or not. He wants your voice to fill his mind. Even if you just hum little melodies, it would bring him so much ease.

Description: When mysterious WICKED dust falls on them, strange feelings imerge.
Warnings: Discriptive, Slight Smut, MDI
"Let's just get in, and get out." Tomas says, walking down the hall.
"Yeah. I only want to be in here for as long as I have to." I says, following him.
He walks into a bright, white room, and she follows. After blowing up the last city, everyone thought it was a good idea to break into the abandoned WICKED facility, and search for any resources. Big, glass refrigerators line the walls. I feels drawn to one in particular. Unlike all the other glass enclosures, this one looks almost like its glowing inside. I walks up to it, a presses her hands to the glass.
"Tomas..." I say.
"Yeah? Find anything?" He inquires.
He walks towards me.
"What is it?" He asks.
"I don't know," I say, touching the handle," I have a weird feeling about it."
I starts to open the door.
"Y/n.."
Poof. The door opens. Immediately, tiny gold sparkles fall over us. I feel mesmerized by the falling dust. Breathing in deeply, I turn to Tomas.
"What was-"
"Ready to go?" Calls another voice.
Gally had also accompanied us on the search. Nodding, we all walked out of the room.
"Find anything interesting?" asked Gally.
"No," said Tomas, "You?"
"Nah," Gally replied.
Feeling disappointed by our lack of supplies gathered, the boys and I returned to the Safe Haven.
On the way home, I started to feel a weird, tingling sensation all over my body. I kept walking, sure that it would go away. But it didn't. the feeling grew, coursing through my body. The moved lower and lower, until it stopped. In my core. The dust.
"You okay?" Asked Gally.
"I'm fine, just tired." I said, and he nodded.
I looked of to Tomas, to see if he was as affected as I was, and clearly he was. Jaw locked tight, stern expression, barely talking (which is very unlike him).
We arrived home, and I immediately went to my sleeping area.
"Hey...can we talk?" I turn around, startled by the voice. Now standing face to face with Tomas, the tingling grows.
"Y-yeah...what about?"
He scoffs, "Tell me you don't feel...this"
I look at the floor, unsure what to say...or do.
"I don't know what that dust was, but something is wrong with me. It did something to me. Makes me feel..."
"What? makes you feel what?" I press.
When he doesnt answer, my eyes look down, to see the obvious tent in his pants.
"Me too." I say, still refusing to make eye contact.
"It's okay, I'll help you." He says. Even though he means get me help, I can't help the wetness that gathers on my panties.
He starts pacing, probubly feeling the intesisty of the feeling as well.
"I don't know what to do....I want it to go away." I say
"I-i know, me too."
"Should we go see the med jacks?" I suggest.
"No. For all we know, that dust is still on our clothes. We can't risk contaminating other people."
"So we stay here?"
"Yes. For now."
I nod my agreement and start pacing my self. I can feel the throb of my clit. The ache to touch myself, or be touched by someone else.
"Shit" I hear Tomas curse under his breathe.
I lay on my bed, looking at the ceiling. I decide to distract my self. Maybe that will work. I picture the beach. The water. my friends. Tomas. Nope, don't think about him. The feeling grows. Maybe...I can just tocuh myself a little bit, and it will go away.
I pull the covers over myself, and slide my hand into my pants. I stroke myself through my underwear. I look at Tomas, who is staring out the window. I move my panties aside, and when my fingers touch my heat i gasp, drawing the attention from Tomas.
the way he looks at me, raw and needy, makes me whimper. He starts waling towards me, and I continue to rub my clit.
"Thomas.." I whisper, or whimper, im not sure.
He groans in response, sitting on the bed beside me. I speed up my motions. He looks down, eyes glued to the blanket, like he can see though it and knows exactly what im doing. When I think my orgasm is building, is goes away again.
"Want some help?"
"Hell yes, please." I say.
There is no hesitation when he removes the covers. In a blink, my shorts, and my panties are gone, and my fingers are replaced by his.
He circles my clit, slow at first, then gradually increases speed. I moan, and he grunts.
"G-good. Don't stop." I whine.
"It's okay, let me take care of you." he says, and i do.
It's all a blur, my release. Then, his. We went 3 rounds and each of us got what we wanted.
I wake up to the sun in my eyes. I hear deep, heavy breaths beside me. Thomas. I look over to see him peacefully sleeping. I kiss his forehead, then realize that part of my arousal yesterday was because of him. It was never 100% the mystery dust.
Description: When a Glader gets a little too bold, Minho steps in.
Warnings: suggestive, (let me know if I missed something)
The Glade was wrapped in a rare hush. The crackle of the bonfire whispered through the trees, distant and soft. Shadows stretched long across the grass, and though the stars glittered above in a peaceful tapestry, something about the night felt... off.
I paused mid-step, suddenly hyperaware. That electric prickle at the back of my neck—someone was watching me. I glanced back. The others were all huddled by the fire, laughing, loud, carefree. No eyes on me. No reason to worry. You're being dramatic, I told myself, brushing the feeling off and slipping deeper into the forest.
The deeper I went, the tighter my chest felt. The soft crunch of pine needles beneath my boots echoed in the eerie quiet. Then—snap. A branch fractured behind me.
“Who's there?” My voice pierced the silence, sharper than I meant. I spun around, eyes darting through the trees. Nothing. Just the forest, looming and mute.
It’s nothing, I tried to convince myself. Just wind. A squirrel. Calm do—
“Where ya goin’, Y/N?” A low, gravel-edged voice sliced through the stillness.
I turned fast. Sam emerged from the shadows, his runner uniform streaked with maze grime, gaze heavy with something unreadable.
“I’m just... taking a walk,” I replied, inching away. But he followed, matching each step.
“You sure it’s safe? Being the only girl here, you could use a little... protection.” His lips curled in a crooked smirk.
“What do you mean?” I asked, pulse quickening.
“I’m saying, things happen in the woods. Accidents. Scary stuff.” His voice dropped lower, and suddenly he was too close—crowding me until my back found a tree.
“Sam, you’re scaring me.” I tried to keep steady, but my voice cracked, betraying me.
“There’s nothing to be scared of,” he murmured, fingers trailing along my cheek in a gesture meant to be gentle—but it wasn’t. “I just—”
“Knock it off!” I snapped, louder this time, my voice trembling beneath the defiance.
“If you just let me—”
“Step away from her.” Another voice, firm and cutting through the dark like a blade.
Minho. He stood a few feet away, stance tense, eyes locked on Sam.
“Minho, buddy, we were just—”
“I know exactly what you were doing. She asked you to stop. You didn’t.” Minho stepped closer, voice steely. “So here’s what’s going to happen. You back off now, or I have a chat with Alby—real casual. Your choice.”
Sam hesitated, jaw clenched. Then he scoffed, tossed me a wink that made my skin crawl, and slinked off without another word.
The moment he was gone, I inhaled—really inhaled—for the first time in what felt like hours.
“You okay, Y/N?” Minho's voice was soft now, concerned, as he approached.
“Yeah. Just a little shaken.”
“Well, don’t let that shuck face get to you. He won’t bother you again—I’ll make sure of it.”
I smiled weakly. “Thanks, Minho.”
“Anytime. Now let’s get you back to the bonfire.”
The glow from the campfire grew brighter as we stepped out of the forest's shadow. Laughter rippled through the Gladers huddled around the flames, their faces aglow with firelight and the comfort of routine—like the scare in the woods hadn't just happened.
Minho didn’t say anything as we approached, but he stayed close, like a silent shield. I was grateful for it.
“Y/N!” Newt waved us over, a grin stretched across his soot-smudged face. “Thought we lost you to the bloody trees.”
“I thought she got eaten by a Griever,” Frypan chimed in, tossing me a chunk of bread. I caught it, barely, and cracked a smile.
“Not tonight,” I said, settling onto a log near the edge of the fire. The warmth seeped into my skin instantly, and I let myself exhale.
Minho sat beside me, legs stretched, gaze scanning the group. “She’s tougher than a Griever, anyway,” he muttered loud enough for the others to hear.
A few of the boys chuckled. Even Alby gave me a nod of quiet approval from across the fire.
Someone started playing that tinny makeshift drum Frypan had rigged out of a pot, and soon the rhythm gave way to stories—wild ones, half-truths and legends about the maze. The fear from earlier faded into embers, tucked away for another time.
And though the fire danced and the night thickened around us, I felt safe.

3rd POV
It all went down quickly, better said - it all went down the moment the Gladers finished the first trials. Since then, no time to relax have they managed to get. After escaping WCKD Facilities, they followed Teresa blindly, unknown to them... she'd betray them. Minho, as well as Newt and Thomas, stuck to Y/n's side to ensure they we're all safe when together. Brenda, Jorge, and the rest of the people who are alive were there with them, watching out for any types of threats.
All chaos started when Teresa went to talk with Thomas. All Y/n heard was Teresa apologizing before WCKD helicopters infiltrated their hiding spot. Screams of children, teenagers, rung through the now-disrupted silence. WCKDs guards pointed guns and even shot some of the innocent people as they yelled for everyone to calm down. Minho grabbed Y/n's hand, not letting her go away from him. All the past times, she was forced to leave him, replaying in both their heads. She looked at him, her eyes glistening with tears, as well as a glimpse of fear, knowing what was coming. They will either take them all back to the building or kill them. He squeezed her hand, his gaze never leaving her face; watching her every reaction as her eyes were focused on watching all the chaos go off.
"Minho, Y/n, take cover quickly!"
They both looked back as Newt and Thomas were calling for them. Y/n was the first one, tugging Minho with her as she ran to the small shelter, better sai - a big box. They all gathered and watched the guards, and then Thomas pulled out a gun out of nowhere, getting a look of surprise from Y/n as Minho chuckled at her reaction. He shot a few times, to distract the guards, who were unbreakable apparently.
The guards managed to gather everyone, pushing Thomas, Newt, Minho, and Y/n more roughly than the others, to which Y/n tugged herself away from even harder. Even tho Y/n thought it was a long time it took for them to get all gathered. In reality, it was less than 5 minutes. Everyone gasped as Mary got shot out of the blue. Minho looked at Y/n, his hand holding hers, watching as she trembled from the cold and the fear she might have to go through the same fate as Mary. Thomas used the moment to attack again, throwing a smaller grenade and yelling for everyone to run. Everyone scattered around, guards yelling and shooting, people screaming. She let out a scream of pain as she got shot with their taser guns, groaning and falling over a box.
"Y/n!"
She heard Minho yell, but she couldn't move.
"Minho we can't save her, the guards will shoot us all!"
She heard Newts comforting voice as she was grabbed by two guards and dragged away.

1st POV(y/ns hallucination)
I was in the Glade. How did I get here?
I watched kids run past me into the Map Room, running after them, but they only seemed to run away. I burst through the door, gasping as I was suddenly in a tunnel of some sort. I tensed up, my breath hitching as I heard clicking behind me, the sound too familiar with me. I turned back, watching the doors open, a Griever stepping out and moving closer to me. I turned my back to it, darting to run as fast as I can, despite not knowing the way. I panted as I ran, narrowly avoiding bumping into the walls, letting out a scream as the griever was closer to me. I stopped in my tracks as I got to a dead end, going to run but not being able to, groaning as I got launched into the air, my body unnaturally sticking to the ceiling. I stopped breathing as the Griever got to the dead end, watching it underneath me, letting out a scream as it appeared right in front me, going to kill me.

3rd POV(inside the lab)
"How is she?" Ava Paige asked as she looked at Y/n yelling and screaming in pain as she had various tubes and needles stuck to her. "Not as effective as she was in the Maze, but it can do," the doctor said, not noticing Y/n stopped, staring blankly at the floor as a tear slid down her face. "Continue," Ava Paige said and left.
--------------
1st POV(Interrogation room of a sort)
I was barely listening to Teresa talk, too busy thinking of ways to kill her to respond. I got an idea as she stood up to leave, quietly calling out for her.
"Teresa"
I called her, it was a whisper. She stopped to look at me, stepping closer to me as I slowly gazed up with my eyes, which were hooded from all the torture and tiredness. As she was close enough, I again decided to speak, this time, my voice filled with hate.
"You're a TRAITOR!"
I yelled, standing up and grabbing her neck, pushing her against the table, and hitting her head again as she let out a startled yell. The guards outside heard the commotion, barging in and grabbing me as I yelled at Teresa, who was shaken and still hasn't spoken.
-----------------
3rd POV
Minho, Newt, and Thomas managed to sneak into the WCKD headquarters with Gallys help. He got the reserve guards's suits and masks, as well as weapons. They made sure to firstly ensure other kids were safe, letting them out of their rooms, sharing concerned looks as Y/n wasn't here. They forced Teresa to help them look, Janson joining them in the elevator as the three boys shared looks. After the elevator stopped, Teresa got out, the boys following her, Mimho nudging Jansons shoulder on purpose.
"Someone moved her to the medical wing. Thomas, that's on the other side of the building."
Teresa said as she was looking at the data.
"Then lead the way"
Minho said as a command. And she did, leading them to the medical wing when all hell rose. Alarms blasted, sirens filling their ears and guards chasing them at every corner. Teresa managed to sneak away, but Minho, Newt, and Thomas yelled Y/ns name. Y/n blinked as she heard familiar voices, getting out of the sedative she was under, hearing the guard alarm the doctor. She tightened her hand on the knife she managed to find, suddenly stabbing a nurse, attacking the guard, and knocking him down. The doctor grabbed her, trying to inject her with the sedative, but Y/n pushed his arms away, injecting him with it. She darted to leave, avoiding the guards as they tried to shoot her. She ran into a guard, throwing him against a glass wall, panting as she saw her three friends. Minho stopped in his track, taking in how tired she looked. He quickly made his way to her, wrapping his arms around her, making her struggle to breathe as she relaxed into him.
"Is this real?"
She whispered, smiling a bit. Minho nodded, kissing her firmly and pulling away to let Newt and Thomas hug her. The guards shot at them, and Thomas guided them into a room, locking it as they entered. They froze as the guards started to cut the door with a saw, Thomas made his way to the windows, looking down at the pool.
"I have an idea, it's crazy tho"
Thomas said, and Y/n, Minho, and Newt just gaped at him like he was crazy. They broke the window a minute later, looking down and taking a few steps back. Thomas looked back as the door burst open, before darting to the window, the rest of the group following him as they all yelled his name while they fell.
"THOMAS!"
Their yells ran out in the silence as they fell into the water, swimming to the surface and gasping.
"That...was...crazy"
Y/n panted, and Minho helped her get out of the pool, his hands on her waist as he looked down at her to make sure she wasn't hurt. She blushed nervously, a small smile on her lips. He kissed her again, this time slower, ignoring the groans from Newt and Thomas in the background. Minho did what he promised to himself, and that was save his girl.

*Angel’s POV*
The next day I was on kitchen duty. I quickly learned that Frypan was much more fun to have as a friend than a boss. It was clear that my untrained presence in the kitchen was an annoyance to him and the other cooks, who never seemed to stop moving. I apparently wasn't quick enough at chopping or dicing or peeling, and as each hour had passed I'd found it harder to bite my tongue at even the slightest verbal infraction. I didn't know why, but now that I knew there was a way of getting my memories back - of maybe even getting out of here - I felt a lot less fearful. Instead I felt angry. Angry that these boys were so unwilling to try, angry that they hadn't escaped yet. And maybe I was even angry that I'd hardly seen Newt.
He'd said an awkward hello to me as he came into the kitchen that morning, but then he quickly walked away before I could even continue any conversation. I didn't get it, I'd let him pick my name, I thought he was the person I could trust the most in here. Was this all over me not wanting him to touch my arms? Did he know I was hiding something?
My mind was irritated and muddled all day, and it seemed that the boys in the kitchen couldn't help but poke fun at me. How they “thought women were meant to be good at cooking" and "weren’t even sure I was a girl.” After an entire day of this, I was quick to leave and go straight to the shower, too frustrated to ask anyone to guard the door.
I would just be quick, and no one would see me leave the kitchen from the inside entrance. No one would even know I was showering. I rushed up the stairs to Newt's room and dug through the chest, which had now been stocked with my clothing, and grabbed my towel from the hook on the wall before heading back down the stairs.
But then as I turned the corner to go towards the showers, there came a deep voice from behind me which I jumped at, though I knew who it was immediately.
"You alright Greenie?"
It was Gally.
"Yeah. I'm fine... Are you?" I answered back, irritated but slightly relieved that it was him.
"I'm good. You sure you good? You look pretty pissed off." He asked.
I let out a huff and nodded, snapping "Yes. I'm fine. What do you want?"
I expected him to snap something back at me, to laugh at me or insult me, but his voice remained gentle.
"Well I was gonna shower, then I saw you... Did you want me to stand outside the door?"
He looked concerned - genuinely concerned - and it made me feel guilty for being so rude to him. He was a nice guy, we'd really got on the other day... and I would much rather him guard the door than anyone else right now.
I sighed and forced a small smile, wanting to show my gratitude. "Yes... Thank you. Sorry for being rude, it's- it's been a long day."
He smiled back and let out a little laugh, saying "No worries Greenie, I get it."
I went to tell him my name, but then as I thought of it I automatically thought of Newt, and so I kept my mouth shut as I walked into the shower. I didn't spend long in there, not bothering to study the intricate marks across my body as I usually would. The warm water had calmed my sour mood slightly though, and when I walked out I found it easier to fake a smile to Gally than I had earlier.
"Thanks for that." I said.
"It's okay. If you need someone to keep guard just come find me, it's the least I can do for scaring you like that the other day."
"I did punch you. I feel like we're pretty even."
He chuckled lightly at that and shrugged.
"Yeah maybe."
I turned around to walk away, intending on spending the rest of the evening alone, but then he spoke again.
"Hey greenie, did you wanna eat dinner with me? I heard you were asking questions last night, pissed Nick off-"
I rolled my eyes with a groan and went to turn around again, but he continued.
"No, I'm not telling you off or nothing. I was stung too. I can probably answer some questions, or try at least."
At that I felt my ears physically prick up and my eyes widen, my heart thumping and my annoyance almost entirely fizzling out.
"Really? You mean- you remember things? You have some answers?"
"Calm down green bean. Yeah I remember some things, but I don't know if the answers are gonna make you happy."
A real smile crossed my lips this time.
"I'm sure I can handle it. I'll stand out here and guard you, then we can go?"
"Sure.” He chuckled “But try not to be disappointed, it's not like I remember a lot."
The minutes between that sentence and finally sitting down with Gally on the edge of the deadheads felt like forever. Realistically it was thirty minutes at most, but I was eagerly bouncing, desperate for any answers.
The first question I shot was "Why are we here?" to which he answered "I'm not sure" then I asked "Well why don't we remember anything?" to which he replied "I don't know."
"Look, it's probably just easier if I tell you what I do know. It's not a lot after all." He said before taking a big mouthful of his food.
I hadn't gotten myself any food, not hungry nor in the mood to speak to anyone in the kitchen.
"Okay." I agreed, and he began after taking another bite.
"Well, first of all, I think we were all kept somewhere for a long time before this. There were doctors and scientists, and this boy and girl... I'm not too sure what they were doing to us. I remember trying to run away, I remember pain. I remember a desert. I remember, that there was some kind of virus, making people sick. But it wasn't just sick, it was something else, like the changing but.. worse." He then turned to me so that we were making eye contact, suddenly more solemn than he had been. "I don't know if we might be better off here than we were out there. I think that the Glade is some kind of safe haven the creators made from that virus. So, I don't really care if the runners ever find a way out, I think they would regret it if they did."
I pondered on his words silently for a minute, thinking of how they compared up to the visions in my reoccurring dream. Doctors and scientists made sense with the sterile hallway, and the injection made sense with a virus. A metal bed frame seems like the kind of thing we'd have slept on in a prison, and the desert - surely they had to be the same one.
"G-Gally, I-" I stammered before he cut me off.
"I hope I haven't upset you too much greenie. I did warn ya'."
"No. It's not that." I took a breath before confessing. "I've uh- I've been having these dreams. And they sound similar to what you remember."
He raised his eyebrows, clearly shocked by my response.
"What do you mean? What kind of dreams?"
"Well they're not very clear. And it's just one, but I've had it most nights now. There's a desert in it, a huge, sparse desert. And I instinctively know that it's dangerous, but I feel that I have to cross it anyway."
"It's burning hot, the sky is purple and the sand is orange." He said quickly and I nodded.
A thick silence filled the air between us for a few minutes, contemplating heavily on the other's words, before Gally turned his body to me again and let out a huff.
"Well I definitely wasn't expecting that. No one else here ever has a hint of nothing, unless they've been stung of course.. You sure you've not been stung?"
"I don't think so... I don't have a scar like Nick has. And if I had, I don't remember it. I think that maybe the creators just made a mistake with me. Or I did something to piss them off and they're fucking with me. I don't see why else they'd send me here, make me the only girl."
"Yeah. I guess." He mumbled but he didn't sound certain.
Suddenly he was stood up and looking off into the distance at where most of the others were. I looked too, saw the group I would usually sit with and saw that Newt was sat with them. Only he wasn't engaged in conversation like the others were, he was staring at me.
"We should probably separate before shanks think we're up to something. Probably already do." Gally said, holding out his hand. I took it and he pulled me up. "I'll see you around though Greenie."
"Angel- it's uh Angel." I stammered, unable to stop my eyes from flicking back to Newt.
Gally seemed to notice this, and when he saw where my gaze was directed, he looked less than impressed.
"Alright, Angel then. I'll see you around."
"See you." I mustered a half smile before he walked off, his pace determined.
I then thought about what I ought to do next. Should I go sit with everyone? Should I try to speak to Newt? Or should I spend some time alone like I'd originally planned? From the way Newt was staring, it seemed that he probably wanted me to join them, but in a move of stubbornness I decided that if he wanted to speak to me he could come find me. I would explore the deadheads by myself and then go to bed, and tomorrow I would be with the med-jacks. Considering it was just Clint and Jeff, and I suspected that they had something going on between them, I was relieved at the thought that I wouldn't be surrounded by angsty boys all day again, and so I began my journey into the deadheads, determined to find a comfortable place to sit in and ponder.
*Newt’s POV*
I'd felt guilty for being so blunt with Angel all day. It had slipped my mind that she would be on kitchen duty, and so when I walked in to grab my breakfast, I was temporarily stunned by her presence. She'd greeted me with her usual polite smile, handed me my plate and then said "Good morning."
"Morning." I'd said back quickly, then saw that she was about to continue the conversation so quickly turned away, feeling anxiety rise from my chest and into my throat.
I didn't know what was wrong with me. Why she'd made me feel so.. depressed all of a sudden. Perhaps it was the realisation that even if I'd given her a name, I was just one of the many boys here who wanted her. And that even if she trusted me, which I wasn't sure she did, I could never truly have her. Alby was right after all, what kind of a message would that send?
However, when I turned up to dinner and saw that she wasn't there, my depression instantly turned into panic, panic that must've been quite visible as Frypan snorted and said "Angel hasn't gone anywhere, don't worry. She's just sat with Gally over there. Think she's annoyed with me. Think we were a bit harsh with her today."
"Why? What did you do?" I questioned, though my eyes remained stiffly on the pair that I could now see sat at the edge of the deadheads.
What was she doing with him? Or, what was he doing with her? Surely nothing good.
"Just treated her how we'd treat any greenie. You know, insulting them and such. Don't think she liked some of the comments about her being a girl n all, seemed to get under her skin."
"Well no shit. If you were the only girl surrounded by all these shanks I think you'd be a bit sensitive about it too." Minho snorted and Zart hummed in agreement.
"And girls are more sensitive than boys. That's one thing I can remember. They cry a lot." Ben added, a mocking tone to his voice. "She might be on her period."
"Shut up slinthead. Do you even remember what a period is?" I hissed, my eyes still pinned onto Angel and Ben laughed.
"Something gross that comes out of their vag once a month, makes them all moody. Why do you care?"
I thinned my lips, my mind too focused on Angel and Gally to really care for an argument about menstruation with Ben right then. I couldn't take my eyes off them, they were seemingly in deep conversation, and then Gally stood up. I tensed up, not knowing what to expect from him, but he just held out his hand politely, and she took it, being pulled up with zero effort on his part. Now I was really annoyed. How could she let him touch her and not me? My fists clenched automatically.
"I don't." I muttered, and finally looked at Ben. "You just sound like a bloody idiot is all."
He said something in return, but I didn't hear it, the thoughts in my head reaching max volume as I watched her walk into the deadheads, I didn't even notice Gally pacing towards me until he was mere feet away.
"I think you might want to question your little girlfriend. Or have you broken up now?" The builder scoffed, closing the distance.
"What the hell are you talking about?" I scoffed back at him, crossing my arms.
"I mean she was going to take a shower alone until I bumped into her. Thought that was an unbreakable rule. For her own safety." He mocked my voice, then added with a smirk "Who's getting punished for that, her or you?"
I just rolled my eyes, although I was internally extremely disappointed that she'd made that decision. Where had her fear gone? Her sensible, self preserving fear?
"I know that's not why you came over here. Tell me, what's really bothering you? Or can you fuck off now?" I scoffed.
"What's bothering me? Oh maybe the fact that she remembers things! Things that I only remembered after I got stung! But I bet you knew that already, didn't you?"
My eyes widened at his words, even more disappointed by her decision to tell Gally anything.
"So she thinks she remembered my name, what's the big issue with that? You jealous it wasn't yours?"
His eyes too widened and a new wave of fury seemed to settle over him. Out the corner of my eye I could see Minho and Ben standing up from their seats, readying for a confrontation.
"Your name?" Gally crudely chuckled. "I'm not talking about your shank name. I'm talking about her dream. She remembers the same things I do and I bet she remembers the same as Nick. In fact, I bet she knows more about this shucking place than you or Alby do!"
I stood in stunned silence, unable to believe the words that he'd said. She remembered things? When had this happened?
"So she hadn't told you. Who's jealous now? Shuck face." He hissed with a menacing grin, and I too felt a sudden burst of rage come over me.
"Get out of my face shank! I can smell your bloody breath." I hissed and shoved him.
I wasn't surprised when he shoved me back, or when in a split second Minho and Ben were stood between us.
"Touch him again and I'll smash your face in, that understood?" Ben growled whilst Minho attempted to calm the situation, saying "Guys, guys. Chill."
I ignored them both, pacing towards the deadheads with a determined speed despite my limp. I didn't even think on it as I usually would, my blood boiling as I pictured Angel's face. Her round, pink lips parted and confiding in Gally instead of me. Maybe she wasn't such an angel.
I couldn't help but let out a frustrated grunt as I stormed over the thick tree roots, gnarled and tangling in the darkness. It was stupid for her to decide to go into this place on her own, especially with no light to illuminate anyone who might be hiding, anyone who could've followed her, and I once again found myself cursing her sudden lack of fear. Did she care if something bad happened? It seemed not. Perhaps she just had poor judgment. Evidently so, if she'd decided to place her trust in Gally.
With every step I felt myself getting angrier, more and more accusations building up to throw at her, but when I finally saw her I found myself wordless, dumbstruck by her ever-bounding beauty. But more so by the expression on her face.
There were thick streams of tears flowing freely from her eyes and down her cheeks, only visible in the dark by the reflected white light of the moon on them. Her lips were downturned in an unfamiliar fashion and small sobs were escaping from her mouth, along with little sniffles from her nose.
A twig snapped beneath my bad foot and I mentally cursed myself for it, her head shooting up in my direction and her hands quickly wiping away any wetness from her face.
"Who's there?" She asked, her voice shaking.
I could see her eyes darting nervously around and her body tensing defensively. In the shadow of a tree I was invisible, and I felt that I could've stayed hidden in that shadow and watched her for a lot longer, were she not so scared. A defenceless, little hare. Now I felt guilty.
"It's just me." I said, stepping into the weak silver light. I could already feel my face heating up as soon as she looked at me.
"Oh." She visibly relaxed slightly, then muttered "What do you want?"
"I was just seeing if you're okay." I answered to which she replied bluntly "I'm fine."
We were both silent for a moment until I spoke again, awkwardly confessing "Actually, I was going to have a go at you."
She rolled her eyes.
"What for hanging out with Gally? Or for going somewhere alone?"
"Both, actually."
"Well get it over with. Then go back to ignoring me. Chuck me in the slammer or something, I don't care."
I swallowed before speaking again, having to recollect my words as they'd all but vanished from my brain upon seeing her upset.
"Why'd you tell Gally that you remembered stuff? And why didn't you tell me?" I mustered an authoritative tone, crossing my arms. "I told you not to tell anyone! Especially not him."
"Well sorry, Newt, but I didn't think it was such a big deal. He remembers the same stuff as me. Why does it matter? It's not like you've been around for me to tell." She hissed.
"It is a big deal because no one remembers unless they've been stung. Have you been stung?" I ignored her last statement, trying not to acknowledge the guilt I felt in my gut for my behaviour.
"No, I've not been bloody stung. I don't know what's wrong with me. I think the creators might just be playing a cruel joke on me, having me remember all this stuff but not my name." Her eyes got wet again but she was quick to blink the dampness away, instead shooting me an icy glare. "So can you go back to leaving me alone now? Or must a meeting be called to discuss my insolence?"
I stepped slowly towards her until I was crouched beside her in the crook of a tree root. We were inches apart and I could see her stiffly tensing up again, side eyeing me.
"I didn't think you wanted to be so close to me..." I murmured, which didn't seem to help.
"Why would you think that? I let you pick my name for God's sake! I remembered your name! It was the first thing I remembered. Does that mean nothing?"
I sighed, knowing she was right and said "I'm sorry" keeping eye contact though she was so clearly trying to avoid it.
"Can I sit with you?" I asked.
She didn't answer, but through her stubbornness I could see her vulnerability, and so I slid down beside her. We were silent for a moment until I spoke again, wanting so badly to press my skin against hers but resisting the urge,
"What else do you remember? Is it true what Gally says?"
She let out a short huff and muttered "Why did I trust that shank?" before saying in a more even tone "I don't remember much. Just flashes. It's the same dream most nights."
"Well can you tell me? Any information is valuable here."
And so she told me about her dream, and how the images matched with what Gally had told her. Except she hadn't told him about the image that had bothered her the most, and the image that I too found most worrisome. The boy running after her, screaming her name although she couldn't hear what it was, and how somehow - she thought that boy might be me.
A dark Maze Runner romance between a very damaged girl and our soft boy Newt. With trigger warnings for self harm, abuse, assault, PTSD, mentions of suicide and general violence. Also written in the style of multiple POVs.
"All that was clear was that they were all boys - all of them - and it filled me with even more dread, instinctually defensive and fearful of the opposite sex. Even if I couldn't remember anything specific about where I'd come from, I knew that men were dangerous."

Chapter Five
*Newt’s POV*
That night at dinner, I took the Greenie to my usual table where Minho, Ben, Zart, Clint, Jeff and Chuck sat, later joined by Frypan after all the meals had been cooked and Nick once he'd finished mapping. No one had really invited Chuck to come sit with us, but his innocent presence could be quite refreshing sometimes, as could the endless jokes we were able to fire at him. Greenie didn't make fun of him at all though, in fact she got slightly protective of him when when Ben started to take the piss, which for some reason I enjoyed watching. She had been generally quite reserved, but she had sudden moments of confidence and whit that I found to be a quite amusing, maybe even endearing. I had to remember Alby's words though - crushing would not be acceptable - and so I tried my hardest to squash the excitement when it came.
"You're funny, greenie." Minho had complimented with a chuckle after she told the story of the pig she'd tried to slaughter that day, clearly mildly traumatised from the experience. "Can't imagine Winston was too impressed."
"No I don't think he was. It's hard to tell though, he's kind of quiet."
"Quiet until he's drunk. Then he won't shut up. Shuckin' blabbermouth." Zart grinned.
"You're not one to talk. You know no one has forgotten about the time you passed out in that clunk pile, right?" Frypan teased and Zart's cheeks went red.
"It was one time! And do you want me to tell the Greenie about all your drunken shenanigans, because some of youse have done a lot worse!"
"Oooh tell me." She grinned to which Minho, Ben, Frypan and I quickly turned to Zart and firmly said "Don't."
We'd all done so many embarrassing things, I didn't have any idea where he might start. They were never that embarrassing before, but now that there was a girl here - a beautiful girl - I sensed it meant that we were all (in this group at least) going to be on our best behaviour for a little while.
"Boo. Boring." She said and then turned to Chuck "It can't be more embarrassing than falling into a pile of manure, right?"
Zart's face got redder and I saw what she was doing, fishing for a reaction to get the truth out of him. It was smart, manipulative, but smart, and I couldn't help but chuckle. Maybe she wasn't such a mouse, but more of a cat.
"Chuck clunked himself three times before we could get him out of the box! And one time Minho chundered everywhere, all over himself, all over Ben! And then they fell asleep in the sick! And they didn't even change before running the next day!" Zart spoke quickly, defensive, bringing a deep laugh from the girls chest.
It was a real laugh, not a polite one or a little giggle, and I found myself joining in, her joy somewhat contagious. All of the boys started to laugh too, seemingly relieved by her lack of judgement.
"Well that doesn't surprise me from Minho." She said looking at him before turning to Chuck in a softer voice "But aw, Chuck. I bet they were so nasty about that" and his face reddened considerably.
"Yeah. They were. Still are." He grumbled and she patted his back.
"It's okay. I almost klunked myself too."
"You almost stabbed someone." Ben corrected and everyone laughed again, though the Greenie looked slightly pink now too.
"Can you blame me? You guys are scary."
"Gally is scary you mean." Jeff chuckled and she nodded.
"He is a little bit. But I apologised to him. I think it's okay now."
"You apologised to him?" Minho questioned, clearly surprised. Everyone else seemed to be surprised too, and I had to shoot around a quick, thin eyed look so as to say "don't bring up what he said in the meeting" to those who were present. Though I had the feeling that what he'd said had already escaped the walls of the gathering, as everyone looked equally uncomfortable.
"Yeah. Why? Was I not meant to?" She asked, and the circle went silent for a moment, clearly unable to think of anything other than what he'd said.
I cleared my throat "No it's not that. He's just a bit of a slinthead."
"Slinthead?" She asked, causing another round of laughter.
"An asshole. Basically. A dumb asshole." Minho answered and she nodded understandingly.
"But he makes that drink right? The secret recipe? So surely he can't be that dumb."
"He's not the only one who makes drink. Frypan makes some pretty good mead and Newt and Zart have made a few wines." Clint scoffed. "And I don't know if how alcoholic you can make a drink is a good measure of intelligence."
"That's a fair point." She giggled and then looked at me "Will I be able to try your wine at some point?"
I turned to Zart, him being my assistant when it came to such things, and he shrugged and nodded.
"I don't see why not." I answered and she grinned.
"Maybe that should be one of the jobs. Someone who's constantly making alcohol."
"That's not a bad idea Greenie. Not a bad idea at all." Minho grinned, patting her back.
She didn't flinch at his touch as I expected her to, and although I was glad to see her comfortable, I couldn't help but feel slightly jealous. The chatter continued well into the darkness, and soon other Gladers were heading off to bed, sneaking jealous glances at us before skulking off. Slowly, our group started to dissipate too, until it was just me, Minho, Ben and the Greenie left.
"Do you think I'll remember my name tomorrow?" She had asked, to which I quickly replied "You should. It usually takes three days at most."
"I think I took about two days." Minho said comfortingly. "And I remember Zart took three."
"Maybe he just didn't want to admit that his name was Zart." Ben chuckled, adding in a sing-song voice "Zart the fart."
"I bet my name is something really bad. Like Clunk." She giggled.
"Or Newty." Ben teased, turning to me with a grin. "Newty? Newtabel? They're girly, right?"
I rolled my eyes and scoffed at Ben, about to insult him, but she laughed and said "Those names aren't that bad. Better than Benty or Benabel."
"Oooh. Shots fired." Minho grinned and then turned to the Greenie "How would you feel about being called Minny? I think that's an actual girls name."
"I wouldn't mind that either. But who's to say I have a girly name. Maybe I'm called Bruce or Bob or something. Maybe my parents got confused."
"Well if you don't remember your name by tomorrow I'm going to start calling you Bruce then. It's annoying just calling you Greenie. Also you're a girl so it should be Pinkie." Minho teased.
"I didn't realise green was a boy colour." She scoffed then added. "And if I don't remember my name by tomorrow, I think I'll make one up. Or maybe take some suggestions and pick the best one. Is that a good idea?"
"It is. But hopefully you will remember it." I smiled and she nodded somewhat forlornly "Hopefully."
The next morning, after Minho and Ben had started their running, I turned to face the homestead and was happy to see her face again, watching me as she had been the morning before from my bedroom window. She waved with a smile and I waved back, mentally preparing myself to send her off with Gally today.
He'd suddenly retracted his previous statement of "She can't be a builder" and Alby had agreed, deciding to give her an equal shot at every job. I doubted she'd be good at it, as did everyone else, but I figured it would do no good to tell her that. It would be better to let her try, fail, spend the day with Gally and then realise herself that she ought to keep her distance from him - not have the idea shoved down her throat.
When I reached the homestead she was stood outside ready and waiting for me, her face gleaming with excitement.
"What job am I doing today? Am I with you? Or Frypan?" She questioned, rocking on her heels.
"No. You're with the builders, with Gally." I cleared my throat awkwardly, expecting her to be more disappointed than she seemed. Maybe I was even slightly disappointed that she wasn't, secretly hoping she wished to spend the day with me.
"Oh. That'll be interesting. I noticed some of the things around here are made quite well, like the chest in your room. I'm assuming that's the builders?"
"Yes. Builders and brick nicks. Pretty much one in the same but brick nicks tend to the more detailed work, like the chest." I answered. "Today they're adding more space to the blood shed. More fencing for the animals I think."
"Ugh, so Winston will be nearby? I don't think I can bare to look at him after what I did to that pig yesterday." She groaned and I chuckled.
"You don't have to do it if you really don't want to. I'm sure exceptions can be made considering.. your gender."
I regretted the words as soon as they came out, her eyes thinning though her lips still remained in a smirk. So she wasn't too annoyed.
"I might be the best bloody builder this place has ever seen. Just you wait, Newtus." She tutted, and at the use of my nickname an uncontrollable grin spread across my face.
"You still not remembered your name?" I shouldn't have grinned as I asked, but it was hard not to when looking at her.
She looked down and sighed "No" before her eyes lit up again "Why don't you think of one for me?"
I was taken aback by her suggestion, feeling the weight of it instantly. She trusted me enough to pick her name? What if I picked a bad one?
"A-Are you sure?" I stuttered, my face heating up.
"Well you seem to be the smartest one here, so I don't see why not." She smiled. "But if you pick something ugly I'll ask Minho instead."
"Okay, okay." I held up my hands in defence with a grin. "I'll try to think of something today. But you still might remember yours, don't forget that."
"Yeah.. I might." She agreed, though she didn't seem to believe her words.
A few hours later and I'd been finding it hard to concentrate on my work in the gardens, my eyes constantly drifting over to the bloodshed and my mind constantly thinking on the list of potential names. I couldn't really remember many female names and the ones that did come to mind didn't feel right, so most of them were just words that I thought sounded nice. There was one that stood out most clearly to me, seeming like it would fit her perfectly, but I felt embarrassed at the thought of suggesting it, embarrassed that she would think it was cheesy, embarrassed that it would show the feelings I was developing towards her.
When I wasn't thinking of the names, I was thinking of how Gally might be treating her. From across the Glade I could see that she'd been haphazardly hammering wooden fence posts into the ground for most of the day, and most of the builders were seemingly keeping some distance from her. Gally however, seemed to be being friendly - something that I found very suspicious.
Surely it wouldn't just take an apology for him to stop being a shank? He'd always been so stubborn. Surely he had an ulterior motive.
The only thing that seemed to distract me from my staring was when Zart or one of the other track-hoes said my name, questioning my lack of concentration or teasing my interest in the girl. Was I making it too obvious? Probably. Zart had leaned in at one point and quietly said "Gally ain't gonna do anything in broad daylight. Stop stressing" to which I nonchalantly agreed, trying to act as if I hadn't even been looking in the first place.
Panic truly started to set in though when I watched her head towards the homestead at the end of the day, happily engaged in conversation with Gally and not even looking in my direction. The sun was gradually setting, leaving the Glade in an orange glow, and I knew it would be dark soon. What on earth was she doing with him? I was quick to stand up and follow them, ignoring the questions from Zart as I left a crop half planted.
When I made it to the homestead, I could see Gally and the girl stood at the end of the corridor outside the showers, and I paced towards them determinedly. Gally scowled at me whilst the Greenie smiled, though as I got closer I saw her face settle into one of confusion.
"Are you alright, Newt?" She questioned, her eyes darting to my bad leg and then back to my face.
Had I been limping too much? I needed to get better at hiding that.
"Yeah, yeah. You want me to stand out here while you wash?" I forced a smile, ignoring the glare being sent my way by Gally.
"Well Gally was going to, but I don't mind." She smiled then turned to him "You've done enough for me today, I don't want to bother you any longer. Thank you."
I saw his breath hitch in his throat for a moment before he too forced a smile, nodding and saying "No worries. See you around, Greenie" before walking away, bumping his shoulder roughly against mine.
I went to follow him, to question him, but then I heard the Greenie's confused voice and it reminded me of what I was meant to be doing. Standing guard. That was much more important than throwing accusations at Gally right now. I'd have time to do that later.
"Are you sure you're okay?" She repeated, her brows still furrowed.
"Yeah. I'm fine. How are you? How was being a builder?" I quickly answered.
"It was okay. I wasn't very good but at least I didn't hurt some poor animal. So better than yesterday. And Gally is lovely, I don't know what all you lot were taking about last night. He's a really nice guy."
I almost grimaced at her words, struggling to keep the smile plastered across my lips. I wanted to tell her so badly what he'd said in the Gathering when she'd arrived, how she'd ought to avoid him and most of the other builders at all cost. But she seemed to finally be feeling safe, and maybe they would behave now that Jackson had been put in the slammer, so I just nodded in agreement.
"He can be alright... I'll go get you a towel and some clothes. Do you wanna wait here or in the kitchen with Frypan? I'll be five minutes."
"I'll wait in the kitchen." She answered quickly, a flash of panic settling across her face for a second before she smiled again "You know, just incase."
So she didn't feel completely safe yet. Probably for the best.
"Five minutes." I repeated, glancing at her one more time before pacing off to collect her things.
A small box of underwear and bras had been sent up with her, along with some trousers and shirts smaller than the ones we'd usually get and some sanitary items. I was irritated to have learnt that the boys had dug through that box before any of the keepers had a chance to - so distracted by her arrival at the time - and I couldn't help but feel rage at the idea of anyone having secretly kept one of the items of clothing, violating her before she'd even really moved in. Nonetheless, I had no proof that that had happened, so I pushed it to the back of my mind, selecting some items from the box before heading back to the showers.
By time she'd finished, I'd managed to calm my rage and was now instead focused on the anxiety of the name I'd chosen. Surely it wasn't that big of a deal, she'd probably remember her name by tomorrow anyway, but if she didn't then maybe it was a big deal, and maybe I would've been foolish to think I could come up with an adequate option. She seemed to sense my anxiety, her hair wrapped in a towel and light droplets dripping down her face, I was too mesmerised to speak when she asked "Are you sure you're okay? You're acting weird."
Beads of water still clung to her high cheekbones and plump lips.
"Newt?" She asked again.
I cleared my throat and awkwardly spluttered.
"Yes. Sorry. I'm fine. I just hope you like the name I picked."
She smiled, walking alongside me towards the line for dinner.
"Well what is it? I'm sure it's better than Greenie."
I scratched the back of my neck, feeling my face go pink.
"I don't know. Maybe you should just ask Minho to pick."
"Oh come on! Don't be like that! Tell me!"
"Okay, fine. But keep in mind I can't really remember any good girl names, so I just picked the one that felt right."
"Well go on then!"
I swallowed nervously before answering.
"I- uh. Angel... I picked Angel. Because when you came up in that box, I guess it kind of felt like an angel had appeared, you know? Alien and unexpected but also.. I don't know.. beautiful I guess."
At this, her cheeks also started to go pink, though a grin remained on her lips, and then suddenly she let out a small, excited squeal.
"Angel. Angel. Angel." She repeated. "I like that, I like it a lot. Thank you."
