I’m really curious about how you got this out of TMG because I really don’t at *all*
I am perfectly happy to have this conversation, but also, this is the worst possible medium, maybe hit me up on discord?
but like, take Autoclave, for example. I read somewhere that John Darnielle described it as being about when you feel like you’re somehow inherently toxic, like you poison every relationship or friendship you have just by being you, and feeling like you ought to warn people so they don’t get hurt, but also wouldn’t it be nice if they just didn’t notice for a little, and you could have human company for a bit.
And it does express that! That’s definitely the feeling that’s coming across! But it’s just ‘I’m having this feeling’, and therefore, kind of by implication, ‘this is a valid feeling to have. this is a thing that happens. you can just feel like this and need support and whatever’. rather than, say, feeling like that, and turning that into a weapon, using it to make you seem unapproachable and sharp and intimidating and using that to fight your way towards being respected, and sure the feeling and the hurt is still there deep down, but that’s not the point, because no one has time to care about that. (The nearest Dessa analogue I thought of off the top of my head was Warsaw.)

“autistic-nano-shinonome: Leftist anti-theism is great cause you get...”
Partly yes but partly no fuck off I will absolutely call Israel and Saudi Arabia bad, they're not exclusively bad because of their religions but they use it as an apparatus for their badness
That isn’t the point, though - this is talking about anti-theism, not about whether you can criticise the misuse and abuse of organised religion - and honestly, if you are conflating the two, that is part of the problem.
So, like. Yes, you could probably criticise the abuse of Islam in fucking up Saudi Arabia. Yes, you could probably criticise the (ab)use of orthodoxy to deny reform conversions, or the abuse of the motives behind Zionism to fuck up Israel and Palestine. (Though honestly I find it hard not to just be really sad for everyone at that point.)
Notably, neither of these are anti-theism. Neither of these are saying ‘this is bad and happened because religion is bad and corrupts people’. Neither of these are saying ‘this is bad and happened because religious people are stupid and deluded and unenlightened‘. Neither of these are saying ‘this is bad and happened because Muslims/Jewish people are all [xyz]’, or saying ‘this is bad and happened because Islam/Judaism are inherently terrible’. Or, even, saying ‘this is bad and all the people who live there are bad, because they are Muslims/Jewish and therefore complicit’ - or saying ‘this is bad and all Muslims/Jewish people must constantly answer for it’.
It’s also rather suspect, honestly, that people say ‘Saudi Arabia is bad because Islam! Israel is bad because Judaism! America is bad because... capitalism!’. Do criticise the fuckups of organised religion and the corruptions that ensue because religion can always be abused - but let’s clean our own houses first, yeah? (And that follows from the above - are we asking every single Christian to answer for the atrocities of the various Western countries where Christianity is abused? Are we assuming it’s because all Christians are inherently evil no matter what? No. Hell, we’re not even criticising Christianity as an organised religion, most of the time - just saying ‘well these politicians aren’t being very Christian‘, as if them being ‘really’ Christian would save us. There’s a huge gap here, and it reveals our biases quite neatly.)
Also, just for my own sake - I mean, don’t be anti-theistic, it’s dickish and pointless, but if you’re going to be anti-theistic anyway, learn about religions and stop assuming that every religion is Christianity, or maybe Abrahamic. ‘I hate religion because it means people are more focused on the afterlife than the present’? Come on. If you’re going to criticise all religion, you’re gonna have to find something common to all religions to criticise - and good fucking luck with that.

I threw my orb at a dolphin. That’ll teach it
clearly the lack of hands to hold orbs is why dolphins are the way they are!
All the odd-numbered ones for Ingrid
1. What’s their full name? Why was that chosen? Does it mean anything?Ingrid Luzia Ziegler. Ziegler is her family name, but she chose the other names for herself “because they sound solid and serious.”
3. Did they have a good childhood? What are fond memories they have of it? What’s a bad memory? She has a loving family, but they were plagued by financial insecurity and that caused some tension. She had to start working at a young age to help support her siblings. Her fondest memories are studying the Ibraic holy books with them. A bad memory is when her father came home after being laid off again and her parents had a fight.5. Do they have any siblings? What’s their names? What is their relationship with them? Has their relationship changed since they were kids to adults?Ingrid has four younger siblings: Hans, Liesel, Maya, and Leon. They all looked up to her when they were younger and still do, even if they don’t understand all of her life choices, but they’re trying hard because Big Sis is the coolest and always knows what’s up7. Did they have lots of friends as a child? Did they keep any of their childhood friends into adulthood?Ingrid had a hard time making friends because she often came off as cold and didn’t care that she did. She also has a hard time trusting other people. Her siblings are her only close friends now.9. Do animals like them? Do they get on well with animals? Not particularly, but she loves cats. If a cat likes her back she feels #blessed11. Do they have any special diet requirements? Are they a vegetarian? Vegan? Have any allergies?Nope, she’s pretty much an omnivore and thinks it’s stupid to purposely exclude any option.13. What is their least favourite food?Again, she refuses to be picky, but if she absolutely does have the luxury of choice, she’s not a big fan of mushrooms. Bad texture.15. Are they good at cooking? Do they enjoy it? What do others think of their cooking? She can make big hearty meals like the kind you’d find in a classic American diner. She doesn’t particularly like or dislike cooking. People tend to like her cooking a lot.17. Do they like to take photos? What do they like to take photos of? Selfies? What do they do with their photos? She doesn’t own a camera, but if she did, she would take lots of selfies and pictures of cats and flowers. She keeps the selfies in a secret album to look at when she needs to boost her self esteem and puts the other pictures in her room.19. What’s their least favourite genres?Romance and horror21. Do they have a temper? Are they patient? What are they like when they do lose their temper?Having four younger siblings taught her to be patient, but she still gets testy easily. When she finally loses her temper for real, it’s the super loud, shouty kind of anger. She blows off steam quickly though, in most cases.23. Do they have a good memory? Short term or long term? Are they good with names? Or faces?Short and long term memory are both pretty good. Almost always remembers names and faces.25. What do they find funny? Do they have a good sense of humour? Are they funny themselves? She makes the most esoteric shitposts without even trying. Enjoys morbid humor. She’s pretty funny if you understand her/are okay with the morbidity. The shitposts resonate deeply with Wilhelm and Jonathan and No One Else27. What makes them sad? Do they cry regularly? Do they cry openly or hide it? What are they like they are sad?Lots of things, but especially injustice, and especially if she can’t do anything about it. She’s secretly very sensitive, but she doesn’t cry often and would rather die than let other people see. When she’s sad, she’s even more quiet than usual.29. What do they do when they find out someone else’s fear? Do they tease them? Or get very over protective? She teases them if she considers it a small stupid thing, like spiders. If they shared their deep existential dread of the inexorable march of time she’d be like “same bro”31. Do they drink? What are they like drunk? What are they like hungover? How do they act when other people are drunk or hungover? Kind or teasing? She drinks socially but doesn’t want hangovers to get in the way of her job so she tries not to get carried away. When she’s drunk, she’s very loud and giggly. When she’s hungover, she’ll murder anyone who looks at her the wrong way. Teases the shit out of drunk/hungover people.33. What underwear do they wear? Boxers or briefs? Lacey? Comfy granny panties?Comfy granny panties are her aesthetic and she doesn’t care what anyone else thinks35. What’s their guilty pleasure? What is their totally unguilty pleasure? Guilty: when she goes dumpster diving for stuff to sell, she also salvages all the clothing she can carry for her own use. Unguilty: she genuinely enjoys the thrill dumpster diving.37. Do they like to read? Are they a fast or slow reader? Do they like poetry? Fictional or non fiction? She doesn’t really have time to read anything besides headline news and installments in cheap magazine serials. She considers herself slow. Poetry is bullshit. Prioritizes non-fiction (news articles).39. Do they like letters? Or prefer emails/messaging?Letters are the only thing listed here that is accessible to her and exists in Entropy
41. What’s their sexuality? What do they find attractive? Physically and mentally? What do they like/need in a relationship? She’s bisexual. Has a thing for shy people because she thinks they’re cute when they’re teased. If you don’t look like a tough cookie but you’re actually shy/a dork that’s a bonus. She wants someone who can handle her teasing, and needs someone who can remind her that there’s good in the world and makes her smile.43. Are they religious? What do they think of religion? What do they think of religious people? What do they think of non religious people? She was raised Ibraic and is still very devout despite her problems with quibbles with church doctrine, but she strongly believes that God still sees her as a Good Person, ultimately. Or at least she tells herself that. She finds religion a bit limiting at times but finds a lot of comfort in the idea that God is out there taking care of things. She doesn’t understand non-religious people and wonders if they feel alone in the universe.45. How do other people see them? Is it similar to how they see themselves?Other people see her as cold and pessimistic, even selfish. She agrees that she can come off that way but disagrees that it’s a bad thing. She’s glad that people don’t realize how she’s secretly emotional.47. How do they act in a formal occasion? What do they think of black tie wear? Do they enjoy fancy parties and love to chit chat or loathe the whole event? She loves an excuse to dress up and grab nice food but haaates every other part of it. She’ll just cling to a friend the whole time and she’ll be polite to anyone who talks to her but she secretly wants to die49. What is their most valued object? Are they sentimental? Is there something they have to take everywhere with them? Her most valued object is her silver brooch, which she can also convert into a necklace. She’s secretly very sentimental. She has to take the brooch everywhere, but not actually for sentimental reasons. It has... a Purpose
