i was actually saying the same thing to my friend basically. like when i listen to shit like The Grand Conjuration by Opeth, even though its melodic death it makes me feel like meticulously and sadistically torturing someone to death as if theres a deeper psychological element to it. but when i listen to Testament, fear factory, etc, just wanna machine gun the shit out of a crowd after snapping.
Fucking right. That's how you know it's some good quality music. Music has always been about making the audience feel a certain way since its birth as a human device. Since we've been able to make music, we've been analyzing it and creating effects to accompany it with other stimuli to amplify its affects on out psyche. Look at Stonehenge. Research has been done on its acoustic resonance and the results were compared with the frequency that fire flickers and it was concluded that the effects that were created could encourage the brain to operate on certain wavelengths to induce an almost trance like state.
Music has been ritualistic in the past and continues to be for individuals of today. Whether you're in the car on your drive to work in the morning and you put on something that wakes you up or you go to a show and you experience it en masse with the crowd, music is empowering and intended to make you feel a certain way. While its critics would demonize its sounds and lyrics, death, thrash, and other types of metal are glorified by its fans for giving them a sense of aggressive release. My personal argument, and I use the term loosely, is that if we didn't have a release through the medium of music, we, as animals, would naturally seek the release through carnal and physical means.
It's the same thought process that helps keep games like GTA on the shelves. People are less likely to act a certain way if they can emulate the emotions that parallel the undesired action. At least that's how I view it psychologically. There will always be neigh-sayers and nonbelievers as far as everything is concerned, whether there is factual evidence to back it up or not.
So regardless of what those douche bags might say, we're going to continue to listen to music that makes us feel good and we'll have physical, audible, or visual effects to accompany it.
Fuck the posers. Fuck the world.
my friend and i were debating this so i wanted to see what your opinion was. which would be better to kill people to? thrash metal or death metal ?
Ooooh that's a really good question. I'm giving it some serious thought and I'd have to say that it would depend on the method that you intended on using. I've written some songs for my band about murder and the whole process so I can definitely get a feel for a soundtrack to a murder with death metal. Actually, if you go to my band's site, give Meat Cleaver Massacre a listen. It's about waiting at someone's house for them to get home and even goes as far as watching the parents fuck before killing them and then proceeding to slaughter the kids. It's definitely about the obsession of the kill and the infatuation with the process of watching their essence leave their bodies. I'd have to say that if your murder is premeditated and there's a process for how you want to do it, especially if it involves torture and having the victims witness their own death, that death metal would be great for the soundtrack. I really feel that you could cut the sound off in a movie like Hostel at certain points and put on some of your favorite death metal and picture what you'd want to do. The killing doesn't necessarily have to be limited to one person or specific people though. It could just be that you pick your targets and you meticulously plan and scheme their demise leaving only their guts and maybe a cryptic message in their blood about how humanity is the most disgusting of creatures on the planet or some shit. Death metal, I thinking, is definitely for that type of shit. Potential songs: Funeral Inception (Suffocation), Razorized Ball Gag (Guttural Secrete), Food For The Maggots (Putrid Pile), (Kataklysm),etc. For more suggestions, throw me an ask and I'll give you a decent 15 song soundtrack for your premeditated, murder-torture spree.
As for thrash, on the other hand, I feel like that's what you want when you finally snap and go on a unplanned killing spree. If there was more murder in the move Falling Down, it would be a perfect example of what I mean. Thrash gives me that feeling of unguided aggression, finally consigning yourself as the savior of the species by taking out ever mother fucker in your way and leaving an undug mass grave in your wake. As far as murderous rage goes and all, I think thrash is more about the anarchy of killing and unleashing the reaper, dude. Potential song: Flesh Storm or Final Six or Threshold(Slayer... Just about anything by Slayer, but I'm listening to the Christ Illusion album now so I'm biased.), Deathraiser (Attomica), Massive Execution (Fueled By Fire). Same rules here for a 15 song soundtrack, ask.
I had some trouble deciding which songs specifically for the post because my playlist is immense and I'm just jamming the fuck out thinking about it. Definitely jacked the fuck up on music right now. Hard to mosh when the only other people here are chairs though.
I hope that answer suffices.
