#elsieposting #slinging #i started with rocks that were far too heavy #and also one of my two slings just ended up turning out badly #weave on the pouch wasn't tight enough and one side of the pouch was longer than the other so rocks didn't sit right #and the release knot wasn't in the right place either #both slings had some twist from the finger loop(s) to the pouch as well #so yea i didn't do a good job making them and also did a bad job using them

23. what's the coolest place you've visited?

I really have a deep fondness in my heart for dutch harbor alaska. i worked out of there a lot when i was a fisheries observer, and it's just a really cool place, and it's a place i think really very few people ever visit who are not in the fishing industry or associated industries. the first time i went it was january and i was about to get on my first fishing boat and i was terrified out of my mind and also the first thing i saw after getting off the plane was a bald eagle. there are so many bald eagles there they're like seagulls. anyways after i got back from my first boat trip there was a huge snowstorm and uhhhh some stuff we don't need to get into about thinking i was going to freeze to death in the snow, but then i spent a few days there and spent some time on the beach in the snow and i remember just staring out into the ocean for a long time thinking about how i would probably never come here again because i was probably not going to last long at this job.

but i ended up sticking with it for a couple years and visited dutch harbor several more times in all seasons and it's just so beautiful also in the summer. it never gets above 55 degrees F and it's so so so windy and you can go on sunset walks on the beach at 11pm. there are orchids growing EVERYWHERE they're like roadside weeds. i'll reblog a couple pictures. and there are salmonberries EVERYWHERE. and nesting bald eagles to look out for, and sea otters and seals and sea lions and so many birds.

and the beaches are pebble beaches so i would go there with my sling and just practice slinging rocks that i could pick up straight off the ground and sling at other rocks and there was nobody else around, i was completely alone. also there are very tall hills you can climb easily in an hour or two for some lofty views, and some mountains you can climb as longer trips. it's the only time i've ever climbed an entire real mountain

DAY 19: SLING Ribelle gathered all the courage and strength she could find, and then yelled, covering her eyes:

"Hey dragon! Before you eat me, I want you to take one more look at my arm, and dare to call it "a mere glowing ornament" again!"

"I won't fall for this trick aga-" the dragon started to say, when Ribelle's arm emitted such a bright light that it blinded the dragon for a moment.

This gave Ribelle enough time to pick up a sharp stone laying in the ground, and aim it at the dragon's head, using her strap of cloth as a sling. She wasn’t a skilled wizard, that’s true, but her slinging abilities were very polished. The stone pierced one of the dragon's eyes, squirting blood all over its face. The dragon began to roar in pain and anger:

"YOU LITTLE BRAT! YOU NASTY WORM! I'LL BURN YOU TO YOUR VERY BONES!!"

It began to breath fire in all sorts of directions, trying to aim at Ribelle. But having blood all over its face, it was difficult for it to find Ribelle's exact location, and the girl was very good in dodging its attacks.

Ribelle then noticed a small opening in one of the cave's walls. "That's my escape rote!" she thought, and quickly grabbed Kayda, running towards it before the dragon could catch them.
