4:00 pm on Friday. You open your door to the familiar look of the room you spend so much time in. A few things tossed on the floor here and there, your laptop sitting neatly at the end of your bed. Exhaustion. That’s what you feel after setting down your backpack for the last time. Until this fall, that is. You lay down on your bed, and open up your laptop to a tab of YouTube, left open from the previous night. You instinctively click on Cry’s name. He hadn’t uploaded a video for the past few days, due to helping out his sister with the baby. Your lips turn up into a small smile when you see that he has, indeed, uploaded something.
The smile fades when you read the title of the video.
“Cry Says: Goodbye”
You stare at the page for who knows how long. Your once fluttery heart now turned to stone. You reluctantly click the video. There’s a few seconds before you hear him start talking. The voice you listened to for three years now. The voice that always cheered you up. The voice that pulled you out of that void of depression all those years ago.
The voice that you had come to know as your friend.
“Hey guys.” he says. “Let me start this video off by thanking you for everything. You guys stuck with me all this time. You were always there. Always kept coming back for more. I honestly don’t know why, but I appreciate it a lot.” You hear him take in a breath.
“Love is... many things. It’s the feeling I got whenever I opened up a game to record. It’s the feeling I got whenever I streamed with the crew. It’s the feeling I’ve had ever since I started making videos. It’s the feeling I had when I saw the baby for the first time.” You hear a small sniffle. Was he... crying? You try to ignore it until you hear a hitch in his breath, and then you break down yourself. “It’s the feeling I got whenever I would open my inbox to so, so many heartfelt messages. And I’m going to miss that. More than you could ever imagine.”
“But I think-- I think it’s time to move on, yeah?” His voice cracks. You try to deny with every fiber in your being that those words left his mouth. You knew this day would come, but not so soon. “It’s been a good run. It definitely has. It’s been the best years of my life so far.” Another sniffle. “But all good things have to come to an end, yeah?” You bite your lip, trying to hold back the sobs, because you know if you let just one escape, then they won’t stop. “And I want to thank you guys again. There will be one, final stream. The normal time and place. And, uh, don’t miss me too much. Go out into the world and do great things. I know you have it in you.” Another sniffle. “I’ll still be around. I’ll post bulletins every now and again, just to update you guys. And I’ll never disappear for good, remember that.”
A/N: Just adding to all the uncle Cry feels. Don't mind me~ Also, yes I made the baby a girl, because that makes it even more adorable. I'mactuallyreallyhopingthatit'sagirlbecauseyescutethings. Alright bye.
He gently picked up the squirming figure, and held her against his chest. “Shhhh. Everything’s alright.” He placed a small kiss on her head. “Did you have a bad dream, sweetie? I promise I won’t let the big scary monsters hurt you. That’s what I’m here for, right?” He chuckled and slowly began the ascent back to his room. He laid down on his bed, still holding the small child against his chest. “You’re gonna grow up to be a beautiful young lady, just like your mom. I can already tell. And who knows? Maybe you’ll have a passion for video games, just like me.” She had stopped crying now, and was slowly drifting off to sleep again. He began softly singing a lullaby.
This went on for about ten minutes. “Heh. Guess I better take you back down to your room then, huh?” He spent his time walking back to the nursery, trying his best not to wake the little one up again. He bundled her up in her blankets again, and gently set her back in the crib. “Sweet dreams, darlin’.”
You clutch the invitation in your hand, reading it over and over in your mind as you walk through the door. “You are cordially invited to the Cry Tag Get Together. Hope to see you there! Cheers! - Cry.” You still can’t believe that he invited you of all people to come to his own house to meet up with other tag members. As you look around the large room, you recognize a few of the faces. The artists are together at one table. Fanfic writers at another. Other groups of friends occupied the rest of the tables, and there were a few loners scattered throughout the room. You look up to see Cry himself standing on the balcony, observing the party while sipping a glass of juice. He smiles and sends a wave in your direction, and you return it. A few of the bigger tag members recognize you, and invite you to sit with them. You decline as you would probably end up getting nervous and embarrass yourself in front of them.
Suddenly, you hear two of the groups get into a fight. It wasn’t much more than bickering, until people from other groups begin to take sides. “Heh. It’s like tag drama, but in real life.” You go to sit in the corner, trying not to get involved. You cast a glance up to Cry every now and then, just to make sure he’s alright. You notice a sudden change in his behavior, but not enough as to where it would worry you. He continues to watch the fight, just as he would whenever there was tag drama. He doesn’t say a word. Only watches. The next time you look up, however, he’s not there. Gone.
The room suddenly goes quiet, as if on cue.
You hear a small thud.
“Enough.”
Your head snaps up when you hear the low, growling voice that Cry always used when he read. Following his voice, you hear a shriek. And then another. And another. Your eyes dart up to Cry’s mask. Something’s off. The normal straight mouth of his mask has turned into a malicious grin. The eyes have turned into those of the devil. You spot a knife in his hand, covered in blood. Before you know it, he’s slashing at heads and stomachs and throats. With every death his maniacal laughter grows louder and stronger. Everyone who was fighting moments before are now running for their lives. You can’t believe what you're seeing, but to try to stay safe, you slip farther into the shadows. “This isn’t the real Cry.” You mutter to yourself. “This is the Cry portrayed in fanart and fanfics. This is...”
“Mad!Cry.”
You try to hold back a sob as you continue watching the innocent bodies of tag members fall to the ground. He shows no mercy, killing everyone within his range. One by one they die off, until you are the only one left. The once white walls of the room are now covered in red. The metallic scent of blood and death fill your lungs. Cry draws closer, his hands coated in blood. “Come out, come out wherever you are, darling. I know you’re there.” You leave the shadowy corner, as he asked.
“There you are.” He snickers, placing the tip of his knife below your chin. “This isn’t you Cry.” You say, trying to hold back the tears. “This isn’t the man I looked up to. The one I trusted. The one I poured my heart out to one night because you promised you’d listen. You promised you’d never hurt me. You knew what I had gone through, and you were the only friend I had. The only one who actually cared about my past. But you broke that promise. You hurt me by hurting all the friends I had made in your tag.” You were sobbing now. “You broke that promise, Cry.” You turn away from him. You can feel the tip of the knife drawing small circles on your back. “Oh, come now, love. It’s no fun if I don’t get to see the light leave your eyes.” You turn back around, and embrace the man you once trusted. “Just get it over with already.”
He places the blade of the knife to your throat. You feel his hot breath on your ear. “Don’t worry. It will all be over soon.” he whispers. With one, fluid motion, he slices a clean and deep gash on your neck. The last thing you hear before you drift into an eternal sleep is his cackling. The cackling you used to laugh along with.
A/N: I asked for prompts. I got a lot of good ones, but this one was my favorite. It's only a drabble, but I'm pretty proud of it. Some of the quotes were taken from this post that Red made. Enjoy!
Red awoke to the sound of her Skype going off. She checked to see who the call was from. “Cry... What could he want at this time of night?” She answered the call while still fumbling around for her glasses. “Hey, bud. What’s up?” “Red, I’ve been thinking...” He trailed off. “Yeah?” She asked, curiosity growing. “About the whole ‘mystery man’ thing. I think I want to, uh, how do I put this?” She stopped in her tracks. “You’re not really going to--” He cut her off.
Red couldn’t believe what she was hearing. “Cry, think about what you’re saying for a second.” “I have been thinking. For a few weeks, actually. I’m tired of all the hounding, ya know? I just want to get it over with already.” Her heart dropped. “This isn’t like you.” He sighed. “Yeah, yeah. I know. I just--” “No. You don’t know. You don’t know what you’re saying at all, man. If you ruin the mystery, you ruin everything. That’s what they all love you for. Like the saying goes, ‘The magic’s in the mystery.’ Do you honestly think they’ll keep coming back for more if you just give them what they want? You’ll ruin everything. You’ll be just like any other YouTuber out there. Why do you think they all love you so much? Because you’re different, that’s why. Taking away your facelessness will be a disaster. The curiosity goes away. Why? Because you revealed the man behind the mask. The fans will lose all those silly headcannons they had of you, and all the fanart will look the same. Again, why? Because you ruined it all by showing them who you truly are. You’ll end it all. You won’t be the same person. You’ll not only break the fans who never wanted anything more than for you to stay hidden, but you’ll break yourself. Are you so willing to end it all, not just for the fans, but for yourself?”
“Your anonymity is your identity. It’s who you are. You lose that, and it’s game over.”
Blood. Nothing but blood. His icy blue eyes darted around the room to see splotches of red on the wall, floor, bed, desk, pretty much everywhere he looked. Why was he here? More importantly, how did he get here? He looked down the the blood-stained knife in his hands.
What have I become?
It had been three hours. Three hours since all the insults, the the curses, the yelling, the hate. Three hours since that call ended between the two gamers. Three hours since that one petty joke went too far. Three hours since they exchanged the worst three words the two could have said to one another.
“I hate you.”
Cry couldn’t even remember what had started the fight. He just remembered the blood pumping through his veins as he threw out any insult he could think of at the man he used to refer to as his ‘friend’. The call ended with a furious click from Jund as he said the three words Cry never thought he would hear from the fellow gamer. “I hate you.” He decided to try calling Jund again. He had given him three hours, after all. Surely he would have calmed down by now. He clicked the call button. No answer. He tried again five minutes later. No answer. He decided to try Jund’s phone. Still no answer. He tried texting him. The texts went unanswered as well.
He finally stopped trying to contact the younger male after another hour. The left over fury from today’s earlier brawl began boiling in the pit of his stomach once again. “I’m tired of your shit, Jund.” he murmured through gritted teeth. He shoved his phone into his pocket, and grabbed his hoodie from the coat rack. “Do you really want to do this, Cry?” he thought to himself while slowly reaching for the small pocket knife on his desk. “I’ve made my decision. He’s going to pay.” He shoved the knife into his pocket. He made his way towards the door, throwing random things here and there at the walls of his home. The normally straight mouth of the gamer’s mask was slowly turning into a demented smile. He let out a low, evil chuckle while stepping out into the pouring rain, slamming the door behind him.
The rain was cold, and pelted every inch of his skin that was exposed. It would have stung if he was in his normal state, but right now, Cry’s mind was focused on the path ahead of him. The only image on his mind was the painful expression his prey would have when it reached it’s final seconds.
There it was. His final destination. The only thing keeping him away from piercing that knife into his target was the door in front of him. He placed three quick knocks in the center of the door. There was a small pause, then fumbling with the doorknob could be heard from the other side of the door. Cry’s blue eyes met Jund’s brown ones as the barrier between them was opened. Scott’s smile quickly faded into a scowl. “Are you fucking crazy man? It’s the middle of the night, for fuck’s sake!” Before he could slam the door again, Cry pushed him back into his own home. “Hmph. Who knows? Maybe I was crazy this whole time.” he said with a grin while pushing Jund’s back into the wall. “I’m a gamer, and this is my game.”
Cry pulled the small knife from his pocket while keeping Jund pinned to the wall. He pressed the thin, sharp blade directly on Scott’s cheek bone. “Oh, won’t the fangirls be upset when they see your ‘perfect face’ has been ruined.” He smiled as the blood slowly trickled onto the blade. “Heh. This should be fun.” Cry’s low, maniacal laughter filled the room as he slowly continued his routine. Jund had made no comment throughout the entire happening. No screaming, yelling, talking, pleading, no nothing. The only emotion Cry received from him was the terrified look in his eyes.
He snapped back to attention, looking down to see the fresh corpse of his friend at his feet.
“No-”
“I-”
“...”
He fell to his knees beside Jund, tears streaming down his face. He looked to the knife he still held in his shaky hands. “There’s only one way I’ll get to see you again, man.” He glanced at the knife for one last time.
