Also, if the "performers" being referred to are the characters trying the food, it should probably be "participants." The meanings/words may be interchangeable in Japanese in this context, but they are not interchangeable in English.
Thank you for the offer, I will keep that in mind in case I do need help! I’m OK for now, though! I used to be very active in the scanlation front, so I do know my way around things, but being a translator is one whole different ballgame. Like, I feel all my proofreading experience goes out the window, mostly because it’s not possible for me to catch all the mistakes (especially the minor ones) I make when doing so. It’s like that feeling when you write fanfiction and try to proofread it yourself. You catch things, but it’s different having someone look over the script and point things out for you, ahaha. It makes me appreciate what my translation partner usually does, though. Their own hell is quite scary.
So yes, I do appreciate the heads up! The word used was 「出演者」 (shutsuensha) and it’s literally “performers” or “actors”. I went with the former because the context of Tales of TV is well, an AU where various Tales cast members produce or star in their own TV shows, but you have a good point and “participants” might work better if I were to go for a less direct translation and more context-sensitive one (which I feel is a better way to go for a translation, though I worry a bit since a different Japanese word is used for “participants”). I’ll be chewing on that idea for a while, at least until I finish translating this whole chapter!
