This is adorable!! I love Flystelle but sadly, I think Flystelle has always been one of those pairings that seems like it would be popular, but it isn't.

I love Flystelle too! But I definitely feel like it had a lot working against it for it to gain popularity in the fandom, haha. Not because there isn’t an appeal to it, but because:
1. You have to vault over several more in-your-face potential ships to get to it (e.g. Yuri/Flynn, Yuri/Estelle, Rita/Estelle) and
2. In the original, Flynn never joins your party, so the interactions that you do get to see with Estelle are very limited when compared to those that she has with other party members
I feel like if Flynn were the protag, it miiiiiiiiight be more popular, but I guess we shall just sit here in our washtub, quietly but fiercely loving Flystelle!

And it doesn't help that Duke's limited development is 90% optional sidequests with tiny time frames. So if you've been playing without a guide, Duke kind of comes out of fucking nowhere.
Yeah. If you don’t do the Duke side scenes (even playing with a guide I had to restart from a previous save point when I realized I’d missed one by going from Dahngrest to Heliord and not doubling back to enter Dahngrest immediately after a big scene about leaving Dahngrest) he’s kind of... where the hell did this come from?
One of my issues with Duke is that he just isn’t satisfying to defeat. After everything Alexei does, kicking his ass feels significant. But Duke is like... oh ok we’re fighting this guy now. A majority of the party - especially the main characters of Yuri, Estelle, and Flynn - have a significant personal vendetta against Alexei that makes the confrontation emotionally charged. Compare the emotional tensions between Velvet and Artorius or Luke and Van. The fight isn’t just significant to the plot, but to the characters themselves. Alexei has that tension, Duke doesn’t.
Duke could have that if they gave him more to do throughout the game, gave him more interaction with the party, expanded on his past a bit more.... I do like him and find his story interesting, but they could have done a lot more with him to make him into a proper, satisfying, game-ending antagonist.

Best written in the series? What? People are saying that? It was more complete than Zestiria, I'll give it that. Abyss is easily better than Berseria if we're talking pure story. And holy shit having Maotelus speak in ToZX is a HORRIBLE decision. Why?????
That might be a (mild) exaggeration, but I was seeing multiple reviews (some of which are from gaming news websites) saying Berseria was a much need “jump start” for the Tales of series and that it was a super well written game with a solo female protagonist at release. Plus I’m under the impression Berseria’s a highly regarded title within the franchise by the fandom as a whole, especially at release. There’s a reason I largely kept my silence on my harsher criticisms of the title until now (after most of the buzz is over). And I do genuinely enjoy the gameplay, and how challenging those boss fights can get (especially when you crank up the difficulty). Also the music - Berseria has a great OST, The will that opposes reason is still one of my favorite boss battle themes.
But like some of my RL friends say, gameplay and music can only go so far to save a game from terrible writing. And with Berseria, it doesn’t stack up well especially when Tales already had a female main protagonist and shown how well it could be done. And with just as fun gameplay and just as good music (at least, in my opinion lol).
I don’t know why they had Maotelus speak in that Trainwreck of an adaptation, but it was a terrible decision. Out of all the spoilers they could have picked, they picked one that comes from a post credits scene . . . like c’mon. At least do everyone a favor and have him speak using one of those Deep Ancient Magical Creature voices or something!

I reread the convo where Rika talks to Jumin about her dictatorial ideals. It happened after Sally died. How many years pre-canon was that? 'Cause Saeran was only brainwashed for 3 years, right? It's a bit of chronology, that I think challenges the theory that Rika was playing the long game when she gave Saeran that book on hacking, and that Mint Eye started 5 years ago, instead of 3. Not arguing, just wondering whether you had thoughts on this, because your analyses have been thought-provoking.

Yes, the chat with Jumin happened a little bit after Sally died, just like Rika’s similar chat with V.
Sally’s death was a little bit after the 2nd party, so it was between 2 years and 1 ½ year ago. The parties were every two years and the first one was 4 years ago, so the 2nd one was 2 years ago. Rika “died” 1 ½ year ago, so Sally’s death was within that timeframe.
Saeran was not brainwashed 3 years ago, it was decidedly 5 years ago, according to the sources explained in my original Mint Eye & RFA analysis post. He was brainwashed without anyone knowing about it for 3 or 3 ½, because V explains in Secret 1 that he discovered Saeran as the hacker during the hacking incident that happened a little bit after the 2nd party (so between 2 and 1 ½ years ago), and that’s when he realized something fishy was going on.
The hacking book was given to Saeran shortly after Saeyoung ran away, because he still wonders about him. Saeyoung ran away 7 years ago, and Saeran got kidnapped 5 years ago, so the book was given between 7 and 5 years ago, at least.
In 707′s route, when Saeyoung and MC find Rika’s agenda, he points out that Rika did her very best to keep her Mint Eye activities separated from her RFA ones, which means, she didn’t plan to mix the two worlds at all. However, after Sally died she snapped, and that’s when she decided that what she was doing was too little, that she had to ‘save the world’ (her so-.called dictatorial thoughts), and that’s when she decided to try and bring V and Jumin with her. However, as we see in Secret 1, when V rejected her thoughts she snapped, because she thought that he was choosing the RFA before her, that he picked the RFA instead of his fianceé. It’s made clear through Secret 1 that this is when she decided to merge the two worlds she decidedly kept separated, and why she attacked the RFA so fiercely from then on. It was all to spite V.
In any case, Mint Eye is even OLDER than 5 years old, because by the time Saeran got kidnapped five years ago, he was already surrounded by disciples.
I have in my drafts a ditched timeline I was making, so I’ll copypaste the important parts here, with the sources next to them.

Rika decides to finally share her thoughts on saving the world with V, but he disagrees (Secret Ending 1, Chapter 3) Eventually she decides to try her luck with Jumin, but he also disagrees with her view. (Jumin Route) (NOTE: I assume the VNM on day 10 with Jumin happens after the conversation Rika had with V in the SE1, due to her reference at V disagreeing with her and her attempts to recruit Jumin)

Shit. The assumptions people make. Jfc. Like that anyone puts any thought into making an assumption like that, just boggles my mind.
You know, I think it’s mostly because they aren’t thinking. I get that serving is a fast-paced job and they most likely aren’t even aware they’re doing it-- nor do they necessarily mean anything by it. It’s just a shitty reminder that the world at large does not think you *belong* together.
I'm assuming the spoilers are for season 4. You gotta wonder why they thought it was a good idea to post the interview now... Do they want people to watch or not? lol
