Man made loss in a sea of a man made problem!
Someone unfortunately lost (was presumably whole) glasses in an 'ocean' (harhar) of slipper Limpet shells.
Very common to see down sound her in the UK, but these are actually an invasive species. Accidentally introduced from North America in the late 1800 a shipment of North American oysters. I was told growing up they were spread during WWII when they came on American vessels docked in the UK, can't seem to find truth to that now, but it also wouldn't surprise me.
They often stack up in 'towers' with the smallest limpet ton the bottom and the largest up top. You know when it's been very stormy because you find them washed up in these little towers.
It is now a serious pest of local oyster and mussel beds, but I'm told they're edible, so I wonder if we can fix this problem gastronomically. :p

One of nine species in the genus, which is found around New Zealand and Australia.
The Calyptraeidae, which also includes the Chinese hat snails, (Calyptraea species), and the cup-and-saucer snails (Crucibulum sp.), are not closely related to the true limpets, despite the appearance of the upper side of the shell. Underneath, however, they have a shelf-like (as here), cup-like, or half-cup-like structure used for muscle attachment. The "slipper" in the common name "slipper limpet" is based on the appearance of species with a half-shelf.
Calyptraeids may form a tower of over two dozen individuals, with a female at the bottom of the mating chain, and the male above her ready to change sex if she dies.
