Slippery Jack
Fungi February: The pungent slippery jack has a strong odor that ranges from banana-like to harsh. It undergoes significant color changes over its lifetime, going from white to olive to brownish yellow, so it can be difficult to identify at a glance.
Disclaimer: Don’t rely on pictures of cute mushrooms with eyes to accurately identify edible mushrooms. At best the wrong one will taste bad, at worst it’ll be deadly!
Some lovely mycorrhizal mushrooms! These lil guys (Suillus brevipes) love to form symbiotic relationships with pine trees (found them at the base of one).
Finished the slippery jack mushroom✌️🍄
Hopefully taking photos like this will be easier now that I have a pocket lens! my phone REALLY hates focusing on things closer than this 😔
