Pet slime mold has grown so I got it some oats let's see how it likes them

Slime Mold

I look out the window

at the garden and see

You.

Pale orange

in the morning light.

A slowly rotating

disgust

crawls in my stomach.

I know You are harmless.

But.

Why are you

touching my scallions?

currently thinking about whether slime molds actually prefer oats, or if we’ve just spent decades accidentally creating an entire civilization of oatmeal enthusiasts

Adventures in backyard gardening: I was watering my gardens when I accidentally hit a patch of dried up slime mold, which then basically exploded into a dust storm of spores.

here's photos of said slime mold when I first found it (left) and then a couple days later (right). it looked a lot different today, I figured it had all dried up so wasn't worried about it. Oh my goddess, the plumes of brown spores that took flight! I wish I videotaped it.

I came inside and showered and even neti -potted cause I'm allergic to most molds and even fungi.

I think it's Arcyria- happy to be corrected. Grew this out of a scrap of bark in a jar on my windowsill — wood collected from Queen's Wood, Highgate.

These pinkish-red blobs are the fruiting bodies of a slime mould. For most of its life it's a single crawling cell with no fixed shape; then it stops, and does this. What you're looking at is the still phase of something that was, days ago, slowly moving.
