SLORP
// continued from here //
Michalis accepts the glass, and, with a single glance towards Lana, sniffs it for poison. Just in case.
“Thank you for your generosity,” he says smoothly, and takes a giant sip gracefully as he can. Which probably wasn’t very much, given this was probably the best thing anyone had given him all evening. Truth be told, Michalis didn’t really care where it was from. Wine was wine.
“You would be correct in your assumption. I am Michalis of Macedon, formerly King. I will be teaching flying and aerial tactics in the coming weeks; I have only recently arrived, and just in time, it seems.” He shrugged, and eyed the woman. “I take it you are a student? I would have given you my signet regardless, but the wine is a nice touch.”
She watches with bated breath as the vessel passes between their hands and its contents are inspected before a hardy draft is taken of the wine. Michalis wastes no time on small talk, introducing himself as the former king of a land no more familiar to Lana than countless other foreign powers the academy’s students hail from. Former or not, the authoritative presence he exudes convinces her his claims bear weight.
“I see,” she responds for lack of anything better to say. In the air hangs an unasked question she dare not give voice though it does not quell her imagination.
“Yes, I am a— Ah! That’s not— The signatures card hadn’t even crossed my mind, truly.” It’s not that Lana would be opposed to obtaining another signet, but her integrity will not allow the new professor to form the wrong impression. That overture had been free of any ulterior motive. She frowns, knowing already from their exchange that he is not a man easily persuaded. “I’ve no intention of asking you for one, I assure you.”
