Doug Ramsay and the art of the Slowroll

In Inferno (2022) a lot happened. It was Jonathan Hickman's final Krakoan work and he clearly wanted to shake up the board on his way out. Spoilers obviously.

One of my favourite moments is Doug interrupting Lesbian Terrorist Power Couple - Destiny and Mystique - when they were about to kill the depowered Moira MacTaggert.

Look at his gorgeous twinky self baiting them into a physical confrontation.

What about my transhumanist polycule - Bei, The Blood Moon, my unfuckwithable Warrior wife, my robot life partner Warlock, and Krakoa, the very sexy island you live on? Lol, Moira does not look happy. Then again, they cut her arm off and depowered her. She probably needs medical attention ASAP. That's how you Slowroll.

Doug looks so happy with himself, but can you blame him? I've seen a lot of speculation that Doug was going to be an antagonist if COVID and writers enjoying act 1 of Krakoa too much didn't happen. I think I would have enjoyed that, though I don't really see it tbh. The only arguably dropped thread here is Destiny confidently predicting that Doug would consolidate power, which didn't really happen in any meaningful antagonist way. He was pretty consistently the voice of Krakoa and its conscience on the Quiet Council.

Who can blame him for that, or for not taking Charles Xavier at his word here? I'd love to have his thoughts on what those most untrustworthy incidents were.
