Mr. Hiatt got the boys back on the bus. #johnhiatt #slowturning #theorientaltheater #denver #colorado #fridaynight (at The Oriental Theater)
The worst thing about being in Denver on a beautiful spring day? Missing part of it to take a nap ‘cause I’m sho nuff staying up late. #johnhiatt #theorientaltheater #denver #blueskyday #slowturning into #fridaynight (at The Oriental Theater)
Tonight saw John Hiatt and Sony Landreth and the Goners play the "SlowTurning" 30th (gasp) Anniversary tour. What was once my "coming of age" album is now one of my "learning how to" age albums...lovely show! AND I am wearing the same leather jacket I wore to the original tour!!!! #slowturning #oldclothes (at Luther Burbank Center for the Arts)
The Birds Are Shitting On My Fence.
There are hundreds of them and there are no bushes left in the yard because I ripped them all out to put up the fence so now instead of sitting in the bushes and shitting they’re sitting on my fence and shitting and if they think I won’t climb a tree and shit in their nests then they clearly don’t follow me on Tumblr. I’m going to a Labor Day Party today. My friend throws parties all the time and they’re always awesome but goddammit dude you can’t feel like doing this anymore. Having people over is exhausting. Labor Day has something to do with unions and I’m in a union and I’m actually a steward so I should probably be posting stuff on Facebook to learn people about Labor Day and what it means to all of us but I couldn’t care less as long as I have Monday off. Lisa is always cooking and/or baking and I’m always eating and/or fat. I bought a football today. After I purchased my new NHL hoodie for this season, I thought I was done, but then I went on the ‘net the other night and bought three more sweatshirts because NHL shop was having a 15% off sale so I said to myself, hey, fuck the electric bill, let’s buy some sweatshirts. And let’s make one of them a sweatshirt from a team that you’ve always hated and perennially (with good reason) made fun of. I think Lisa was mad at me until she realized that she actually liked one of them* and is probably going to steal it. I made a video. You should watch it. Jaws I,II, III and IV are on Netflix this month (Thanks slowturning!) I’ve watched the first two and skimmed the third one (mostly for the lame crashing through the glass scene). I’m watching IV next because there aren’t any others. I also correctly identified last night that the screaming girl from Jaws II was also on Hello, Larry!, so I have that going for me. *Islanders, obvs.
New season, new hoodie. I know at least two people who will approve, and two others who won't. Last year was the Jets. They finished under .500 and out of the playoffs. Sorry, Blues.

I was six years old and living in Erie. I believe I had just started kindergarten which meant I got to ride on a bus for about an hour because the local elementary school started at first grade. Living in a neighborhood that specialized in first-time home buyers, there were a lot of families with kids my age. It was also neat to see that neighborhood grow from a measly 14 houses to well over a hundred by the time we moved seven years later. With a neighborhood developing so quickly, there were always things to do. There were still creeks and streams and swamps to play in, and at the same time there were freshly cleared fields with piles of dirt to ride our bikes over. The I made a lot of great friends there, all of whom I have lost touch with.
Musically, the world was getting quite diverse, with major albums from Stevie Wonder (Songs in the Key of Life), Linda Rondstadt (Hasten Down the Wind), KISS (Destroyer), Thin Lizzy (Jailbreak), The Eagles (Hotel California), Weather Report (Black Market), Rush (2112), Bob Dylan (Desire), and the eponymous debut by the Ramones.
Also, in baseball, many of the players would soon be on the move with the beginning of free agency, breaking up the 70′s dynasties of the Oakland A’s and the Cincinnati Reds (the Big Red Machine) - this I noticed from gazing at the back of my baseball cards the following year and seeing a mass exodus from these teams. My father and I were busy rooting for the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Steel Curtain of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Hot summer night Storm clouds in the air My eyes are a little heavy I'm feeling in the past tense, I'm hardly aware
I don't want you on the phone Don't you play good girl with me Why must I always say it again?
And how could I not post this, particularly after being reminded of it by slowturning a few weeks ago?
Also, I just realized that whenever anyone says “hot summer nights” I hear it like this in my head.
