although he daresay he never thought he’d see it again. it takes moments of long conversation with himself to be convinced that she’s not a mirage. she hasn’t joined the figures in his head - she isn’t an exhaustion induced hallucination.
the last time he saw her she was being pulled away by the arm. by her brother. the one they’d gone in there to save in the first place. max holds no resentment towards her for that. it’s the way things happen. they just - they happen, and max reflects on the time since then, his cross-country and off-road trip with furiosa and the girls -- and it’s not so bad.
he’s alive. he’s free. alive to see this one again, apparently. he makes strides in the sand, dropping the plastic guzzo can; he’d been siphoning out of an old car when he saw her, getting ready to start cannibalising the parts. and now that doesn’t seem to matter.
max wants to call out her name. his voice is stronger now, purer, cleaner on the air.
but he doesn’t know it.
so he just keeps heading towards her.
