wip wednesday
something something maintaining habits. i started four wips in the fortnight since my last wip wednesday but i managed to actually finish and post one which i'm counting as a win
"They'll be lovely," Carl said distractedly, checking and re-checking his phone for the umpteenth time. "And after Hardy's boys, how bad could they possibly be? I don't think any pre-teen girl is going to be caught dead farting in front of a stranger, at the very least." "Yeah, but if they try psychological torture on me, I get to say I told you so," Jasper muttered from the passenger seat, looking glumly at the flat they were parked outside of. Small front lawn, little nook that presumably led to a doorway, and the hint of flowers if Carl squinted—it was pretty much exactly what he'd expected Akram's home to look like. Knowing his salary now, and that he'd been working part time before he'd joined Carl's department, it hadn't left much range for potential housing, not when he was a single father with two young children. Carl turned to Jasper. "If you go in there expecting them to be little demons, then they'll live up to expectations. Just," he waved a hand, "let them do their own thing, make sure they don't kill themselves—or each other." "Or me?" Jasper added. "If two little girls manage kill you within a few hours of knowing you, you may want to rethink a few things about your lifestyle," Carl told him. It was odd seeing the kid so trepidatious . "They've apparently already had dinner—you don't even have to worry about burning the bloody place down trying to make food."
