Small Shoes

If there are fewer stars now than when I was a child,

I can’t say which are missing, who was the last to see them.

Is it not a crime unless we call it a crime?

It is difficult to document a disappearance, a boat full of stars capsized. Stars lying in the sand

face-down, wearing small shoes. Add that to the report:

He threw his rock and it skipped over the river one, twice, and thrice before it faltered and disappeared under the surface. Madara’s eyes narrowed and he pursed his lips.

Trying to get his rock to the other side didn’t actually mean anything, sure... but it was getting pretty annoying how he could do everything else but not this stupid little trick. He kicked around the stones on his side of the shore, looking for a decent replacement for the one gobbled up by the water.
