A smalltooth sawfish for prompt 16 of the @wildlifewednesdaychallenge Growing to over 5.5m, the smalltooth sawfish is a formidable looking animal preferring coastal waters of depths of no more than 8 meters, although adults will venture into deeper water. It looks like a cross between a ray and a shark, with it's namesake saw like snout or rostrum acting as a sensory organ, a probe and a weapon for either hunting or defence. Native to the tropical and subtropical Atlantic waters it can be found around the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico, but it's historical range was much bigger and coveted the coastal waters of 47 countries. The smalltooth sawfish's numbers have declined due to a combination of entanglement in fishing nets and habitat loss, particularly suitable breeding sites. @ecowarrior8888 @lizzywatercolor #WildlifeWednesdayChallenge #SmalltoothSawfish #Sawfish #SawfishIllustration #illustration #IllustrationArt #AnimalArt #AnimalArtist https://www.instagram.com/p/ChKYwYmjhQP/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
