In 1950, Vogue assigned Irving Penn to photograph workers in Paris. He utilized this as an opportunity to celebrate the unsung heroes that we typically take for granted, inclusive of people in various trades such as butchers, firefighters, fruit/vegetable stand owners, and more . Thus birthing the highly esteemed Small Trades Collection.

We live near a park where it is popular with men (mostly) to play “frisbee golf”. The trees and paths are amazing, and generally quiet until the weekends when our paths cross with a group of four males, often smoking, talking and playing loud music they carry with them on luggage carts with their discs. At the “tees” there are often a few empty beer cans as drinking seems to be part of the fun. Last Sunday we met Miguel who was walking to each hole/goal/tee and had two full bags of cans he had collected. Vicki thought each bag might be worth $20 and seeing him profit from the men, she made me see there is a bit of good in the activity. The cigarette smoke and music in the park will still annoy me though.
