I definitely think there's merits to both! Henry and Radar had a great dynamic, and while Henry put up with a lot from Trapper and Hawkeye, I feel like Potter was a way better counterpart to them. Frank has his moments, and I don't think Trapper, Henry, and Frank took *away* from the show, but I think Charles, BJ, and Potter pushed it to where it wanted to be.
Yeah, I think you’re right. There are things that are fun about both lineups, but I definitely think that because the writers already had three seasons of material and cast dynamics under their belt when crafting the new characters, they were able to create characters that were designed to make the show even better, whereas the characters who were introduced at the beginning were all just sort of hit or miss, since no one really knew for certain if the show was even going to succeed at that point. Basically, the actors with characters who were introduced later had an advantage since they were coming into an established show with experienced writers, instead of an experiment in adapting a popular, reasonably vulgar movie adaptation of an also quite M-rated book into something that could air on prime-time in the 70′s.
