Smaug~ Soulmates
Synopsis: Being half human and secretly half dragon means that you sometimes are faced with atypical situations. Being soulmates with a terrifying dragon that just destroyed a city is one of those situations.
🍃Masterlist🍃
Quasi-Human!Fem!Reader!
A/n: I have such a soft spot for soulmates that have no choice but to love each other! I love hurting my favorite characters as much as I love forcing love and affection upon them. 🥰 And my favorite kind of MC’s are the hybrid/mixed species MCs. AND DRAGONS. DRAGONS. YES. AH. Everything about this just stole all of my attention the minute I laid eyes on it and my brain went “Plot? Location? Sweet romance that follows whatever mischief I stir up first?”
And, my brain alternatively went “Dragon loaf!” from a picture I saw on pinterest.
I also didn’t edit any of this or reread it because I was in the emergency room when I wrote it; so, we’ll have to put up with my word-vomit for now. ✨ Enjoy!

The early morning in the forest of Mirkwood was cold as glowing, golden eyes peered through the oppressive darkness that smothered everything just before daylight would hit the above canopy. Wary creatures knew to stay their distance from the seeming human that possessed the nearly intangible inhuman aura.
Despite how the golden glowing eyes pierced through the darkness, it wasn’t a harsh or sharp glow. These eyes were kind and warm, like the soft golden glow of a harmless firefly. Curious creatures would dare to venture closer for a look, but only a fool would approach the kind traveler maliciously.
At the way I moved like a shadow through the night, one could imagine I was similarly shady or suspicious in character. However, my life wasn’t as secretive as one would imagine for someone who was quasi-human. After all, it was rare for me to bring up my other half so casually. After all, what would be the point of bringing up something as taboo as a dragon…?
Maybe this was why I chose to live a lavish life in the comfort and riches provided in the city of Dale. It was a proud and prosperous city that sat just at the foot of a great mountain, Erebor, the home of the dwarves.
As a half-dragon, there was always that internal desire for treasure, for shiny and rare items. In all my time, I’ve never found more treasure than that which lies in Erebor. Though my constitution was only half dragon, simply living beneath the mountain nearly overflowed with gold, my desires were sated. After all, I was a mere human. How could I crave something I’d never truly experienced before? And I promise, I’d firsthand never experienced the mountains of gold that I was sure were in that mountain’s core.
I was sure that as long as I could keep this mountain for myself, my self-proclaimed treasure hoard within the mountain would be safe from the greedy hands of others. After all, the dwarven King within the mountain proved greedy enough not to want to part with even a single token—this was how I was assured that my treasure would remain untouched and unsullied by the mortals. My treasure had no chance of parting Erebor or being owned by anyone else.
These facts assured me of the security of my treasures, which is why I felt confident with each journey I took outside our Kingdom’s borders.
Perhaps I was a little too confident on this last trip outside… As I returned, there was something unexpected occurring. My trip back to Dale was filled with odd occurrences. As a quasi-human, my memory was sharper than most, as were my senses. That was why I recognized the faces of many of the Dwarves and Dale citizens who were fleeing away from Erebor. Many were carrying very little belongings and nearly all—if not all of them—were distressed, heartbroken, and grief-stricken.
While people leaving wouldn’t usually ring any alarms for me, the vast numbers told me something dreadful must have happened. Each step home struck me with more and more anxiety and concern. While I wished for it to be something simple—something with an easy solution—the flames and smoke that rose from my home were enough to clue me into what happened.
I desperately wished to be wrong.
On my way toward the mountain, a man stopped me, his eyes solid and sharp as he warned, “I’d turn around, traveler. There’s nothing but despair left in the wake of the dragon… There’s nothing for anyone here.”
My eyes darkened in determination. So it was indeed another dragon who dared to destroy my home… my territory. My draconic instincts rarely flared up, but I couldn’t help it, as my home was left in such a state. All for my treasure.
While I was off on my journey, this dragon decided to come in and impose chaos and destruction unto my home. Glaring at the remains of my home, I decided, “I’m going into the mountain.”
Setting off on my revenge trip to face the dragon invader, the man shouted, “W- Wait…!” His eyes followed me, shocked that I would disregard his warning and proceed toward the danger. “Turn around! I’m warning you! That monster Smaug will kill you before you can step foot into that mountain! It’s suicide-”
I cut off his frantic warnings with a single look, my draconic eyes flashing dangerously. Rather, I shared my own warning, “You’d best leave now. I’m returning to my home.” My voice had a slight gravel to it as I reached the end of my sentence.
My draconic aura was shining dangerously strong as I walked through the fallen city of Dale, withholding my dragon form for the moment. My eyes flickered among the debris and the dead, recognizing familiar buildings that were still smoldering and streets where familiar sights were reduced to rubble.
As I left the gates of Dale, heading toward the grand entrance of Erebor, the ground vibrated subtly under my feet. I paused, glancing down as these vibrations grew in intensity until a large figure emerged from the mountain, spreading its impressive wings before taking to the sky.
Smaug.
The one who was the cause of such horrors—the reason dragons were taboo and monstrous among the weak little mortals.
Huge, intimidating, and destructive—the qualities of a dragon.
Seeing this dragon soaring so possessively over my home, I growled. Darting forward with the desire to protect what I’d claimed as mine, I shifted into my dragon form, my limbs extending and wings spreading magnificently behind my huge form. As a half-dragon, I was less than the size of a true dragon, but at this moment, all I could feel was the sensation of a true dragon flowing through my blood.
My species mattered little in this moment, where I charged forward with the intent to take back what was mine. I was kind-hearted, sure… but I loved my home enough that avenging my home was the least I could do in this situation. I wouldn’t let anyone take everything from me.
For once in my life, I attacked without mercy, without any sympathy in my heart. And for a brief moment, my small size was irrelevant as I struck Smaug from behind, pinning the fire-breather against the side of the mountain where debris rose and scattered around us.
Smaug moved quickly and violently, disentangling himself from my hold. His chest glowed dangerously with the threat of his life-taking fire; however, unlike all those merciless times before… it never came forth. His attack stalled. His eyes were glued onto the dragon that struck him from the sky.
In turn, my eyes were likewise glued onto him. Our gazes were fixed on one another.
Only one word was silently communicated between us like an unspoken link.
“Soulmate.”
I immediately stepped away from Smaug as we regarded one another from a short distance. Both dragons were searching for something. Dragons were rare creatures, so encountering each other at all was a significant occurrence—and this… soulmates… It couldn’t have been a coincidence.
My tail wavered behind me as I observed this dragon. I was sure he was having the same experience as me. Only, with what I observed from the city, I wasn’t sure this dragon was capable of feeling emotions necessary for a soulmate.
Soulmate.
The word repeated in my head. My soulmate, the one I was destined to be with, was a dragon whom the people of my city and home considered a monster. Of course, I knew I wasn’t truly like the people I lived amongst, but it was my home nonetheless, and this dragon—my… soulmate—came and ruined everything I had. The thing that struck me the hardest was that dragons had soulmates at all. Wasn’t that supposed to be some kind of myth or legend? Yet, I was seeing it with my own two eyes… No—More than that. I felt it in my soul.
“My soulmate,” I heard Smaug speak out loud for the first time. His voice sent shivers down my spine, yet his presence oddly comforted me. A hum of appraisal rumbled in his chest as he exhaled. “You are not a dragon.”
My eyes narrowed. That was the first thing to leave my soulmate’s mouth? An insult? Well, I suppose it could have been worse… I suppose fire could have left his mouth first, as it did to Dale and Erebor. Still, it was difficult to judge where this conversation was heading. “I am a dragon,” I firmly replied.
“Not fully,” he observed. Things fell silent between us for a tense moment. Well, it was tense for me. I had been around humans for so long that I’d long since lost the ability to read a dragon’s body language or expression. But then he spoke again, “My soulmate is a human in the skin of a dragon. You speak like them.”
I tilted my head, almost in genuine curiosity. “And you’ve spoken with many humans?”
“One.” He briefly glanced away. “My soulmate.”
Another quiet pause passed between us. I wasn’t entirely dragon, but he was. Despite being soulmates, I was still wary about this dragon, unsure of his intentions.
As expected of a soulmate, or maybe it was his constitution as a dragon, he could sense my wariness around him. My stance could have also given me away with the way my head was lowered, appraising him for any movements or actions. Human or not though, I could see some sort of displeasure in his eyes. I was anxious to know what was going through his head, but he didn’t elaborate.
Tilting his head, matching my curious movement, he broke the silence between us, “I am not fond of humans.” That singular sentence assured me of the fate of our soulmate bond …until he spoke again, half grumbling to himself as if convincing himself of this fact, “But this quasi-human… You are mine.”
It was very clear he disliked my human side regardless, though his eyes held his possessive nature. It was clear neither of us expected to meet the other here, so I had a single question to ask him. “Why did you come here to destroy my home?”
A scoff left his lips, sounding more like a withheld growl deep within his draconic chest than the sound a human would make. He didn’t outright answer my question as he turned his gaze back to Erebor. “Foolish soulmate. Do you know nothing of your own kin? To not know why a mighty dragon would wish to lay claim over a mountain such as this. You truly are a human in dragon skin.”
“The trove within Erebor…” I muttered, knowing his reason. Dragons were possessive of treasure, of gold. Significant quantities of it were said to attract such beasts and call destruction to any greedy soul who would dare amass such wealth—though only foolish souls, such as those tainted with dragon sickness, would make such a mistake. Though, spotting the missing scale on his left side, my eyes narrowed knowingly. “Was it worth it?”
He ignored my pointed gaze. “To not only stake my claim here… but also find something more valuable than any gold… Yes. It was worth every life and every crumbling stone and every billow of smoke that rose from my flames.” He raised his head proudly, raising his wings as if showing off. “I could not have been more fortunate.” He wouldn’t mention the thought that perhaps it wasn’t the gold in Erebor that attracted him here to this specific mountain of gold. Perhaps his sense as a dragon led him to his other half, his little treasure, the most important thing a dragon could find in their lifetime—the one precious rarity he would be sure to protect at all costs.
However, there was a thought that lingered for me as well… I had always been a resident of the city of Dale. I’d never admit it in so many words, but it was for the same reason Smaug had for coming here the way he did. The richness of this city attracted me and kept me here. While I never would have dared to try and take the mountain for myself, Smaug did take it for himself.
Despite all I lost in Dale, the dragon half of me resonated with Smaug. Morbid curiosity ate at me to know what it meant to have such extravagant treasure for myself—for us. Me… My soulmate… Us.
My eyes flickered up as I heard a rumbling laugh come from the throat of the dragon across from me. “Something’s amusing?”
If a dragon could hold a smug expression on their face, Smaug certainly did. Gazing down at me with all his draconic pride, he answered, “Nothing, to me, is more amusing than seeing my quasi-human of a soulmate struggle to accept the tug in their soul.”
I stepped forward, my claws grazing the stone beneath my feet, as I stood face to face with him. “If you’re questioning whether or not I’ve come to terms with being the soulmate of a pure-blooded dragon… I have.” My statement surprised him enough, leaving us in silence before I added, “Despite not being fully dragon, there’s a tug in my chest… an undeniable desire to be by your side. I have accepted the tug in my soul. Maybe it’s you who can’t accept my human side.”
“You misunderstand, treasure,” he mumbled the term of endearment as he leaned challengingly closer, our noses a few breaths apart. “Perhaps you are part human… But I am a dragon. And I readily accept every treasure that comes into my possession. You are a welcome, however unexpected, gift.”
“Possession?” I repeated, my nose almost scrunched up in offense. “Excuse me…?”
“Don’t be surprised,” Smaug attempted to sound assuring, but from a human perspective, he really sounded full of himself. “You should consider it a compliment to be held in such high regards by one such as I.”
“You call being a possession a compliment?”
He hummed curiously at my complaint, though posed a question himself. “Do humans not have similar concepts of ownership?” He elaborated, “To belong to their soulmate in such a way that they are treasured above all else… placing their life above all other.” Seeing the concept begin to connect in my mind, he added thoughtfully, “Humans are considerably greedy when it comes to their gold. Do you mean to tell me they do not feel similar in regards to their mates?”
My gaze hardened as I looked away from him. I hated how he was making valid points from a human perspective. How did he even have a human perspective? Maybe he was more sympathetic that I imagined for a dragon to be. Though, that may have been inconsiderate of me, considering I, myself, was a dragon with a human side. Maybe I was the one being close-minded here.
“I- That…” I trailed off. Perhaps it would just take time for me to understand the meanings in his words. After all, it seemed that dragons might not be entirely different from humans. After all, we’re both just living creatures that experience different desires and have different necessities. But we’re both alive, and all living things were prone to some form of possession. Huffing in disgruntlement, I decided, “You word things oddly.”
His deep chuckle sounded far more amused this time as he managed to confound me with his surprising ability to understand. “Perhaps I do,” he agreed without much reluctance. It wasn’t like he often had conversation with others. “However, I feel that you’ll come to understand a dragon’s form of endearment in time. Being part of my hoard is not a thing of offense, nor is it bad. If you cannot understand my words, trust my actions. I will keep you safe and I will provide for you, my treasure.”
It was beyond evident in my words and actions that I had never before embraced my dragon side. My movements were unsteady and faltering, not unsimilar to a hatchling learning to walk. In order to blend into human society, I had never acknowledged my dragon form, neglecting it as if it were a burden to my existence. Which, it may have been, had Smaug not shown up to change that.
I raised my head, retreating from his sudden approach. Though, Smaug’s movements were more graceful than mine as he moved beside me, using his wing to usher me beside him. “Come. I will show you what you have yet to experience as a human. There’s much for you to learn.”
Part of me wondered if he knew the human phrase ‘to take someone under your wing’ as a form of teaching. It was strictly a human thing, of course, so I doubted he would understand it—aside from perhaps taking it literally. I was literally under his wing, after all as he guided me into the mountain that I’d only ever looked at from afar.
This mountain was like a physical representation of my draconic blood. It was something that I acknowledged as existing. It was something I owned and accepted as my own without saying it outloud or having anyone else know of. But now I was in my dragon form, entering the mountain that I had long-since claimed as my own. My soulmate stood strongly beside me, guiding me each step toward my predestined fate. He could show me what dragon life could be like.
That much was proven as he took me into an illuminated great hall, filled to the brim with gold and treasures stretching from wall to wall, corridor to corridor. The lot of it put together was far greater than the entire mass of Smaug himself—and me included. It stirred something… possessive in me—a feeling I couldn’t quite put into words. It was a desire to have complete dominion over this space of treasure.
“That’s how it feels to… desire…” I murmured almost imperceptably.
I curiously watched as Smaug bypassed me, settling down within the piles of gold. The sound of shifting coins was pleasant to hear and it was even more pleasant to physically feel the texture of the cold metals and stones beneath my claws. I was sure if I were in my human form, I’d likely drown in this sea of gold and treasure. Indeed… the dwarf king under the mountain was a greedy soul—a soul that now consumed my heart.
I couldn’t resist the stimulating textures beneath my form as I joined Smaug, settling atop the gold, just to worm my way further into the cold comforts of the material wealth.
His eyes remained affixed to me, observing my every action and reaction to the environment around me. After all, he was more than curious to see how I was going to settle into my inevitable draconic desires. It was going exactly as he expected it to go and his chest practically swelled with pride and affection for his soulmate.
Though, despite my internal frolicing in my dragon form as I curiously explored my surroundings, I had a thought as I glanced at Smaug and pointed out, “You’re going to show me how to be a dragon and show me how to embrace that natural side of myself.” I curiously inquired, “But that’s not all I am. I’m also a human… Do you accept that side of me as well? Or just the dragon…?”
Pausing, he lifted his head to get a better look at my slightly human eyes. He wasn’t as disgusted as he imagined he would be. Had anyone told him beforehand that his soulmate was half human, he would have scoffed and never entertained the idea. But seeing me with his own two eyes… He quietly mused, “Huamns and similarly small species are fragile and easily broken creatures. Yet, you are mine. So, let me word it in this way… You, a dragon, I will possess. Conversely… You, a human, I will protect.” He would do everything for his soulmate and he hoped he could communicate that well enough.
“That’s… one way to put it,” I considered, my tail wrapping around my loafed form. “And, not exactly wrong.” At least he had some idea on what it meant for me to have a human side. And at least he understood that humans were extremely fragile compared to dragons. That reassured me that I’d be safe in my human form around Smaug as well, considering his magnificent size. “Thank you,” I mumbled quietly, leaning closer to him, his warmth radiating onto me. “I used to think being a dragon meant that all my dragon side was good for was being territorial and desiring a hoard of treasure…” I paused. “I wasn’t entirely wrong either. But… I’ve still got things to learn. So… Maybe I can teach you more about the smaller life too?”
He let out a soft exhale through his nose that was slightly audible in the silence of the room. But he didn’t reject the idea. Instead, he reluctantly accepted my quiet wish, “If that is what my soulmate desires… I’ll endevor to learn more of the smaller life and to tolerate your humanity.”It seemed like it might have been a hassle to consider. A dragon needing to accommodate the needs of a quasi-human… It really seemed unrealistic. Until it came down to it, and a dragon really is quite willing to do anything for their treasure.
(So, this might be long, but I hope you enjoy it. It has also come to my attention that it’s just easy to write reader gender neutral since I rarely have to specify the gender, but this is male reader)

Warnings: violence, mentions of dead and crushed eggs, mentions of cannibalism, Smaug is kind of a douche, overprotective dragon companion, some fluff, found family kinds of feels, angst, death and war.
-After your banishment, you traveled far and wide, avoiding people and hunters who tried to take bounty over your and your dragon’s head. You couldn't let that happen, especially when carrying your dragon’s only egg.
-You could feel through your bond how your dragon, Skarlax, was getting tired from all the constant running and flying. It wouldn’t take long before she got fed up with it and decided to fight your pursuers. You knew it would only end badly, so you had to find a safe place soon.
-Your search led you to a witch, who told you about a place called the edge of the world, where rumors said traveling through the mysterious clouds of the sea would take you to another world. It sounded unbelievable and impossible, but knowing your situation and how desperate you were to find a haven, you took the risk.
-You fed Skarlax and flew into the clouds in the sea. It was a horrid journey. The storm that followed almost took your life, so either the gods decided to be merciful, or you got lucky to survive such a force of nature.
-You found your way to a place called Middle-Earth. It was such a beautiful place, and you could feel yourself wanting to discover all of it. Other Targaryens always thirsted for conquest, but you always preferred to travel and uncover than try to conquer.
-However, you knew you needed to find a home for Skarlax and her egg soon, so you traveled to look for a good home for yourself.
-You found your way to what seemed to be ruins of an old kingdom inside a mountain that stood alone from others. You marveled at the two great statues standing near the entrance, and you couldn't help but walk in – wanting to see more.
-The sight was breathtaking. You walked through the stone halls, taking in the designs and the beauty of the stone murals and the statues. The city was unlike anything you had ever seen before. It was marvelous, especially when it was underneath a mountain.
-You studied the old murals and pictures on the wall, trying to learn the story behind the city and its people. You were surprised when you discovered that dwarves used to live here. You noted the size of the old bones and armor you found, so these dwarves were much bigger and buffer than the dwarves in Westeros, and they were considered a different race, not ordinary people with a defect from birth.
-You were discovering so much, and it made you excited. Skarlax just followed you as you walked around the place.
-You found an old forge. The room was a mess but perfect for incubating Skarlax’s egg. It also had bigger rooms and old chambers nearby, so you and Skarlax didn’t have to sleep in the same room.
-You tried to tidy up the place and prepare a fire until you heard your beloved companion growl and hiss defensively. She was unnerved by something like the place was not safe.
-You had been with her long enough to know the nature of her behavior, so you knew she was not smelling another human or a wild animal. It was another dragon.
-You felt excited that there was another dragon and unnerved because wild dragons were dangerous when they were not fond of humans, so you quickly tried to leave the place rather than trying to find the dragon.
-You almost reached the entrance till you felt the hall shake, and the mysterious dragon showed himself, his scales gleaming red and his eyes burning with golden flames. You were left stunned as you marveled at his size. He was big. He was bigger than the biggest dragon you knew in Westeros, and there was no doubt his wings could cover a whole village in their shadows.
-He was a magnificent specimen, but you left your thoughts elsewhere as he did not look friendly when he looked down upon you.
-One thing you did not expect or think possible – was for him to speak.
-” Well… little rat. Why the rush?” His deep voice shook you to the core.
-You were shocked, unable to utter a word. There has never been a recorded dragon who could speak like a human. It was impossible, but then you remembered that you were in another world, so anything was possible now.
-Oh, how your relatives would have flipped their crowns and heads if they knew there were dragons that could speak.
-You collected yourself and kept eye contact with the dragon. You apologized and tried to tell him you did not mean to invade his home. You thought the kingdom was empty of life.
-He seemed amused by your answers and questions if you had not heard the stories about the dragon that dwelled beneath the lonely mountain, sleeping in the stolen treasures of Erebor.
-You made a quick note of that and explained you were new to these lands and Erebor was your first stop because you wanted to investigate. You had no idea he was there sleeping.
-You introduced yourself out of politeness, and he introduced himself as Smaug.
-You tried to think your words carefully since he seemed to toy with you like a cat with a mouse, except it’s a tiny man and a giant dragon.
-He approached you dangerously like a snake and then noticed the egg that rested against your chest in a pouch. When he saw the egg, he looked agitated and almost demanded to know if you had stolen the egg.
-You tried to tell him the egg belonged to your friend, but he didn’t seem to believe you and seemed ready to burn you alive.
-You were too far away to take cover, so you held your breath as his chest glowed with brilliant light, and he opened his mouth.
-Luckily, Skarlax came to your rescue just in time and attacked Smaug. She stopped him from raining fire upon you by scratching his head. Her smaller size allowed her to fly in the hall and maneuver around the enormous dragon while throwing and dodging the attacks.
-Smaug growled and quickly snatched her tail, throwing her away.
-Skarlax got thrown onto the floor, but she quickly got up, ready to fight. However, you stopped her, speaking to her in High Valyrian and preventing her from making poor decisions.
-You have always admired her determination to fight for you, but even you knew this was a fight she would not win, so your only hope was coercion.
-You calmed her down, then turned toward Smaug, explaining she was your travel companion and the egg you were holding was hers. You were carrying it for her as you traveled to find a safe home for yourself and the hatchling inside.
-You also explained you were from a place where dragons did not speak, so that’s why she was not speaking like him.
-Smaug calmed down and then asked for your story. Since you gained his interest, you happily told him your story and why you were flying around to find a new home for yourself since you got banished from your old one.
-Smaug listened to your story. He looked down upon Skarlax as she was protective of you, and she had a saddle on her back, so he did not have anything nice to say about it. However, he was willing to forgive you for trespassing.
-His race was already under threat of extinction. So he did not wish to harm the egg in your hand and its mother. It would mean he would contribute to the death of his race.
-He then said you could stay in Erebor since it was big, filled with gold, and you could incubate the egg. It would be safer than in the outside world since people feared dragons.
-You agreed to his reasoning since Erebor would make a good home for you and Skarlax’s hatchling.
-You promised you only wanted to care for your companion and her future offspring, so you had no interest in his gold or treasures.
-After that encounter, you finally managed to tie up the old forge and start incubating Skarlax’s egg. Skarlax was not happy with Smaug’s presence inside the mountain, so she was constantly watching the door, guarding you and her egg while having the pissiest face you have ever seen on a dragon.
-You shook your head since she looked like a brooding child, but you understood her protectiveness.
-She was mistrustful toward other dragons because when she had her first clutch of eggs, they were crushed and eaten by the dragon named Cannibal. It crushed your heart when you found her mourning and ready to fight the terrible wild dragon, but you stopped her because you knew she couldn’t have won.
-She didn’t give birth to more eggs for some time – until her mate died in a war. His rider brought him to a hopeless battle, and they both got shot from the sky. It crushed her even more, but she was able to give birth to one egg just when your house decided to banish you from the kingdom.
-You were the only one she trusted, so she allowed you to take it, and you both escaped the kingdom and Westeros.
-It would be awkward in the future when the tension between you and Smaug was this high, so you needed to do something to soften it up.
-After resting through the night, you decided to confront Smaug and talk to him.
-You were nervous when you walked through the stone halls since yesterday’s events were still fresh in your bones. It made you shiver how you almost got burned alive, but when you found the treasury, you were amazed. There were gold, gems, trinkets, and all kinds of treasures everywhere.
-You never thought such a treasury was possible. There was no way gathering all the gold and treasures into one place in Westeros could even fill half of the hall in front of you. You were pretty sure even the riches pigs would sell their soul to have such wealth.
-You concluded Smaug was one of those dragons that hoarded treasures, so you began to look for him and call out for him while stumbling on the hoard of gold.
-You knew Skarlax was watching from the shadows, carefully observing, and ready to act for your safety, so you tried to keep calm when Smaug finally heeded your call and rose from his golden hoard.
-You were still intimidated by his size, but you held your breath and told him you wanted to talk with him – anything to ease the tension and create a good relationship.
-Thanks to your experience dealing with silver-tongued people in court, you made Smaug curious about your homeland and its dragons, so you ended up making a decent conversation.
-He was not fond of the idea of his kin submitting to humans, so you had to give a brief explanation: dragons in your homeland were like your kin – not pets or slaves.
-He found the idea ridiculous but was curious to know more, especially the language you spoke with Skarlax when you calmed her down from attacking him.
-You told him about High Valyria and how it was like a dragon tongue since most dragons in your house don’t listen unless spoken in that language. Smaug kinda liked it and asked if you could teach him some words in your language.
-You were glad. It means you have created a good start, so you visited Smaug often and taught him some words in Valyria, and in return, he taught you something about Middle Earth and other races like elves and dwarves.
-Skarlax was still uncomfortable with his presence and preferred to avoid him. She spent most of the time with her egg after making sure you would be alright by yourself.
-Smaug asked for her story after observing how spiteful she was toward him, like she hated dragons, and you told him how her first clutch of eggs got destroyed by another dragon named Cannibal and how her mate perished in a war.
-Smaug was surprised to hear about Cannibal since it was frowned upon to crush and eat a female dragon’s eggs, so he showed some sympathy. He went out of his way to hunt some prey and offer it to her as a peace offering, trying to show he was not a threat to her or her egg.
-Skarlax was a proud dragon but accepted the offering since she could keep a more watchful eye on her egg.
-You were happy since the tension was slowly decreasing, and Skarlax was slowly softening up to Smaug when he continued hunting for her. You gave Smaug some hints about her favorite food, and it helped make better bonds for them.
-Helping him get Skarlax’s trust gave you a chance to befriend him, and he was comfortable enough with you to talk casually.
-He admitted he grew to enjoy your company just a little since you entertained him with riddles and rumors you heard whenever you left the mountain to gather food and water for yourself.
-You even went out of your way to bring him more treasures to add to his hoard, which helped you grow to a friendship level. It was hard work, but it was worth it.
-After living together for some time, you might have noticed Smaug showing signs of interest in being mates with Skarlax. He kept hunting food for her and sometimes helped with incubating her egg. You liked the idea of them being together, so you wanted to help him since you knew Skarlax better than anyone.
-She might have grown comfortable enough not to fight Smaug upon first chance, but she was still protective of you and her egg, so one way to gain her trust was to show he was trustworthy.
-Smaug didn’t deny he was interested in her and listened to your suggestions.
-It was difficult for him to gain her trust, but when he defended her egg from an intruder. Skarlax slowly cracked down her walls, and even she began to show interest in him.
-You then helped out by giving Smaug hints on how to romance her now the challenging part was over, and one way to do it was by speaking in High Valyria with her.
-You never imagined you would become a wingman for dragons and a third wheel.
-You watched their romance grow and gave them peace by guarding the egg. It was lovely, but you were amused when you watched your proud companion and Smaug become enamored with each other.
-You were first worried when you thought about when they became mates and got into ‘that’ business, but then you remembered Skarlax keeps growing every year, and she was already half of Smaug’s size, so there shouldn’t be any complications.
-The day finally arrived when Skarlax’s egg was finally hatching.
-In your old way, it would take a Targaryen to make an egg hatch, but it wasn’t impossible by naturally incubating. It would only take a long time, so you ran out of the forge when you heard those first cracks.
-You were yelling, and you dug both dragons out of the hoard to tell them the news and make them watch the hatching with you.
-You brought the egg for them to see, and you all watched as the baby dragon finally dug its way out of the shell.
-It was a beautiful little she dragon. She looked like Skarlax, but unlike her mother, the little dragon was purple and red, and her horns and spikes were black. Oddly, she also had gold dusted on her chest and head, which made her look beautiful and like Smaug, in a way.
-Skarlax was purring in delight, and her eyes were filled with love when you brought her hatchling to her. Even Smaug was watching rather lovingly.
-It was a happy moment when you welcomed your newest member to your odd little family.
-Now, the naming part was the hard part. You didn’t know what to call the new hatchling, so it took a long time for all of you to brainstorm some names.
-You gave some name suggestions in Valyria and names that described her color and that, but Smaug was quick to brush them off because he thought your name suggestions, like Amethyst and Hearthfyre, sounded stupid.
-He didn’t have better name suggestions, so you then suggested names in elvish since you have been learning and suggested Malleniel, which technically meant daughter of gold.
-Smaug admitted that the name had a nice ring to it, so you all agreed to call your little hatchling, Malleniel.
-It was a happy time for all of you with Malleniel. You often offered to babysit her, so you two grew close. Skarlax was full of joy to be a mother, and even Smaug sometimes played with her like she was his.
-You were one big happy family. Sometimes you all nap together on the hoard. You cuddle with Maleniel while Skarlax covers you, while Smaug covers all of you. It was uncomfortable to lay on the gold, but you did not mind.
-You thought it would be like this, and you would happily watch Malleniel grow till the old age hits you, but alas, like a curse, your happiness did not last long when they came – the dwarves and the hobbit.
-You were with Malleniel when you saw someone walking through the halls – toward the treasury where Smaug and Skarlax were resting. You were suspicious and prepared with a blade, so you followed the intruder.
-You were surprised to find that it was not a human, but something smaller with very hairy big feet. Your first thought was a dwarf, but you then remembered Smaug telling you they were bigger and had a beard, so you brushed it off and continued observing the creature.
-The little person was odd and frightened to be there. You tried to make sense of him till Malleniel grew impatient on your shoulder and growled, alerting him of your presence.
-He was startled to see you. He was definitely not expecting to encounter a human man, especially a man with a dragon sitting on his shoulders. Your appearance most likely frightened him even more as your silver hair glowed in the dark, and you glared at him with your purple eyes.
-You demanded to know what he was doing in your home, and he was nervous and confused when you referred to the place as your home.
-He tried to question you, but you pushed the questions back at him.
-He introduced himself as Bilbo Baggings. He called himself a hobbit which made you curious because you had never heard about them. You would have asked him more if he was not an intruder.
-You talked for some time as you tried to figure out his purpose in the mountain, and it was clear he was looking for something. You just didn’t know what because he was trying to avoid answering your questions.
-You introduced him to Malleniel and advised him to leave. Smaug was not very keen on visitors right now.
-You were too late to tell him to leave when you felt the room around you shake, and a familiar dragon appeared out of the corner. You knew it was too late for him, so you left Smaug to deal with your visitor.
-You hoped it would be a quick death since you wanted to know him more, but then you hear voices and Smaug being more active. It left you concerned, so you followed the voices and observed how the dwarves avoided and rebelled against Smaug.
-It looked like they were succeeding, so you quickly confronted Smaug before he could go after them.
- ”Smaug!” You called out, stopping in front of him.
He snarled after he got constantly hit with strange bombs before looking down on you and Malleniel.
“(Name). I want you to take Malleniel and return to Skarlax. If things get out of hand, I want you all to leave the mountain,” He said, making your eyes widen at the thought. “But what about you? I could help you!” You said.
“Ensuring Malleniel’s safety should be your first priority. These pests turn out to be more troublesome than I anticipated!” He said with hateful venom in his tone. “So I will not risk Skarlax’s and Malleniel’s life as long as they’re in the mountain,” He explained, then looked down on you softly. “So please, take them to safety for me,” He said, then continued chasing the intruders.
-You felt conflicted as he was part of your family, and you had a bad feeling, but you respected his wishes and went to find Skarlax.
-You stayed hidden with Skarlax. She wanted to join Smaug to chase off the intruders, but she listened to you and kept watch over you and Malleniel.
-You felt the mountain shake and heard Smaug’s roar. He was outside, so you carefully led Skarlax and Malleniel out of the mountain – avoiding the dwarves’ attention and following what was happening next.
-You watched as Smaug was burning the Laketown. He was most likely taking revenge on the intruders, but then you heard him roar in pain and fly in the sky before suddenly falling toward the lake below.
-Your heart stopped at that moment because you knew he was dead.
-Skarlax called out to him in pain, wanting to fly to him but staying beside you as she couldn’t leave you and Malleniel undefended.
-Your mourned and hugged Malleniel, who was confused. You hugged her and cursed the dwarves for killing your friend and taking away one of the most important members of your family.
-Skarlax kept you close, trying to comfort you. She grieved with you till dawn, and the battle for the mountain was beginning.
-You watched as elves and the humans gathered in the city, ready to attack the mountain since the new dwarven king refused to share parts of the treasure even though he promised it to them. You found some irony in that.
-They always said dragons were the greediest creatures on Middle Earth, yet here was a dwarf doing the same.
-One night, you found the hobbit sneaking out of the mountain, and in a fun twist of fate, he dumped you on his way to the city.
-You were not happy to see him because he was also responsible for Smaug’s death, but you did not care enough to harm him.
-Skarlax was near to eating him alive, but you convinced her to stay put, and you two talked for a while. You asked what he was doing, and he explained he intended to give the heart of the mountain to the elves and humans. His friend valued the rock above all else, so it should be able to convince him to open the gate and avoid conflict.
-You found his intentions honorable and brave. You would have done the same if it meant you could have saved Smaug’s life.
-Bilbo showed sympathy when he saw how much Smaug mattered to you and how Malleniel got robbed from a father figure. You brushed his apologies off since it was already too late.
-When he asked why you were still around, you told him you wanted to see the elves and humans break through the walls and see his friend get taken by his creed.
-He asked you if there was a cure for the dragon sickness, but you answered there was no such thing. His friend can only overcome it by himself or let it consume him.
-You allowed him to continue his task, and you watched as the whole thing unfolded in the morning.
-The stubborn dwarf still refused to open the gate, and you waited for the moment to see the battle begin, especially when more dwarves appeared and they started killing each other.
-It was interesting to watch for a moment, but then the earth shook, and you saw the earthworms opening tunnels for something. You then saw legions of orcs marching through, and now, it was throughout the war.
-You saw the dwarven king joining the battle, which meant he had overcome his sickness, and they all fought honorably and like it was the last day on earth.
-You decided to leave because you knew the battle was lost. The orcs outnumbered them massively, so you knew they would die either way.
-You were prepared to leave till Bilbo found you and begged for your help.
-You refused and asked why you should help the people who helped to kill your friend. You were not risking your life for people who would kill Skarlax and Malleniel at first sight.
-Bilbo explained that if you helped them, the people would not harm you or your dragons. If you helped them win the battle, they would even give you a safe haven.
-You highly doubted that since you considered Smaug as a friend.
-However, Bilbo then convinced you that if you helped them, people would not come after you or your dragons. They could send word all around the land to prove you’re a friend and not an enemy. You and your dragons would be safe.
-You thought about, and even if you did not want to help the killers of your friend, you had to think about Skarlax’s and Malleniel’s future and safety.
-You pushed your feelings to the side and gave Malleniel to Bilbo.
-Bilbo was shocked to hold a baby dragon, but when you threatened to kill him if she came under any harm – he sucked it up and made it clear he heard you loud and clear. He then watched as you mounted your dragon and took flight toward the battle.
-When you flew above the battlefield, you yelled out for Skarlax to fire.
-Fire rained down upon the orcs. They screamed as they burned alive, and the dwarves, elves, and humans were left shocked by the appearance of another dragon.
-You cut the rest of the orcs away, giving a burning barrier to the people and preventing the rest of the orcs from overpowering them. You then continued burning them all. You also took down the trolls that tossed boulders and stones.
-You gave no mercy to the orcs, giving a chance for the dwarves, elves, and humans to win the battle, and the war was soon over.
-Seeing no reason to fight anymore, you returned to Bilbo and saw Malleniel alright.
-Bilbo thanked you for helping and promised to let everyone know you were a friend.
-You almost found revolt in the idea but couldn’t do anything about it. You took Malleniel and prepared to leave for good.
-Bilbo wished you good luck and said if you ever found your way to the shire, he would always welcome you. You almost found some warmth in those words but brushed them away because you doubted you would ever meet again.
-You bid him farewell, too, and flew away from the lonely mountain.
-You looked back, watching your home get smaller and smaller. It left you with deep sadness, but you knew it was necessary.
-You managed to find a new home even though it wasn’t easy, then watched how Malleniel grew up into a healthy young dragon. You missed Smaug and felt sad that he couldn’t be there to see her grow. However, Skarlax then laid two new eggs, and you were happy that your friend’s memory won’t die.
Warnings: Fluff, mentions of fire, Smaug is a tad insecure
Summary: You never cared about the gold or treasures Under the Mountain. All you sought was some company and found the most unlikely of companions. Now, the dragon can’t bear to part with you despite his doubts.

A/N: Listen, I was wanting to cuddle this dragon so...I may have selfishly wrote it because of that. Please don’t judge. I love this dragon so platonically and would love to have this bond with him any day...just think of the CUDDLES not to mention how protective he is. Also, @frostandflamesfanfic may have inspired me to do like two more follow up parts to this one. I hope you enjoy!
====================================
They told you to stay away from the mountain, but what was left for you in that sphere of the world? There wasn’t much to say in the least. But, you were happier here than you ever were before. The company you craved was answered in the form of a glorious dragon, who you feared would turn you away, but the months spent in his company improved his mood slowly but surely and he felt himself growing softer towards you. You didn’t care for the riches around you, wanting him for his company. All he ever wanted was the gold but it worked out between you.
You find yourself yawning after you get back from the library, leaning against Smaug’s slumbering form, but he glances at you curiously studying the book in your hand.
His massive head cranes toward you, huffing at the book you hold out for him to inspect.
“Tell me a story.” His massive wing gently guides you closer to him, where you can get more comfortable and you settle down, opening up the ancient book carefully, allowing yourself to get lost in the pages, and soon you find your eyes unable to focus much longer, the book falling from your hands as you cuddle closer to Smaug. One of his massive wings drapes over you, pulling you closer.
He looks down at you from where you are curled against him, so small and fragile, huddled against him for warmth. He huffs to himself in annoyance, oddly feeling reassured by you next to him slumbering away, fighting off the occasional shiver.
His gaze sweeps the cavern, his narrow eyes catch only the shimmering gold littering his glorious cavern, before he curls his body around you more, burying his head under an assortment of jewelry goblets and armor.
You mumble something in your sleep and one of your hands reaches out to stroke his scales. A low rumble resounds, and you smile softly to yourself knowing he secretly is enjoying the simplicity of you being here with him.
“You are supposed to be asleep.” His low rumble resounds, yet he makes no effort to move, not even when you turn to stroke his wing, and a smile tugs at your lips.
“Is that a crime? My being awake, that is.”
“Thought humans required long naps for three months.”
“Your conception of humans is a long way off, but I wish I could hibernate that long,” you groan fighting off another yawn, the warmth of him a comfort. You fumble through to find your book, chuckling to yourself when you find it unsurprisingly buried under rare jewels anyone in Middle Earth would care to have.
Everything here costs a fortune beyond anything you could imagine and you can't help but laugh at the absurdity of it all. You were sleeping next to the pale silver delicate jewels of some Elvish noble with the most feared creature in Middle Earth of all time.
“I wasn’t wrong about you. You like it here for some reason. There’s nothing here beyond all the riches in Middle Earth others dream about and you’ve taken nothing.” He growls low, red fire glowing like an ember from within him.
You don’t move, don’t shudder at the display. You feel oddly at peace with this overgrown furnace.
“I don’t want any of these treasures. For a fearsome dragon, you can be oddly dense at times. I want to be with you. I’m here because believe it or not I actually enjoy your company.”
His massive head turns towards you, the sound of gold dripping from his glorious scales as he blinks, processing, snorting almost laughing at the notion. Who’d ever heard of such a thing? Is someone here because they like or tolerate him? He the monster dwarven children fear at night?
Carefully you reach out to him, stroking his nose not caring or fearing the sharp teeth could rip into your flesh, breaking you apart in an instant. If he wanted to kill you, he would have done it sooner, run you out of the cavern, or burned you to a crisp the moment you held a single golden coin of his in your hand. Safe to say, you were unimpressed by it, more interested in Smaug himself.
“If you are that dense, then I guess I could take my leave of this place…”
“NO” he roars, a ball of spinning fire bolts across the corridor, barely singing your hair. Your heart races, but not in fear.
“Stay…I want you to stay…stay…stay” the cavern echoes, enveloping you in the fiery flames.
So idk how long it’s been since you got one of these, but I stumbled on your Smaug writings and I have a soft concept as a result now... been getting emotional in this Chillis tonight. One is Smaug somehow living through losing all his hoard, and reader is the only bit of his ‘treasure’ he has left. The other is Smaug telling reader to take their pick of his hoard, and keep what they most like. They sit on his hand/paw/wing. Their fave thing is him. *fades into the bushes of the night*
apologies for taking so long with this! it’s been ages since i wrote for smaug but i hope i did him justice :)
(also heads up: this is the first time i’ve attempted smut with a gender neutral reader, so please let me know if i bungled it in any way)
The cavern is dark when you arrive, your firelight sputtering pitifully in its circle of stones. You drop your bow and burden by the entrance, wiping the sweat and rainwater from your brow, and hurry to coax the flame back to life.
Your charge slumbers on, his body curled within the confines of the cavern’s jagged walls. You watch his sleep, the way the firelight glances off of his scales, and take a moment just to breathe.
His color was returning, his once ashen scales beginning to take on shades of crimson and amber. Where once his breaths had been short and labored, they were now low and deep, and smoke had taken to spewing from his nostrils in slumber.
The scar on his breast where Bard’s arrow had burrowed deep would remain, blackened cracks spidering across a circle of torn and broken scales, but he would heal. He would heal.
Your chest lightens at the thought, and you find yourself drawing in a single, shaky breath. You had not realized how heavy the threat of his death had weighed upon you until it was removed.
“You are troubled.”
You meet the dragon’s eyes, and though they remain clouded from slumber and remnants of pain, you are consumed in them.
“Merely fatigued,” you tell him, approaching his great head to lay your hand upon his cheek. His scales are smooth beneath your palm, their heat seeping into your skin and chasing away the chill of the rain. “How do you fare?”
A plume of smoke spews from Smaug’s nostrils. “Merely fatigued,” he returns in kind, his deep voice rumbling through your body like a thunderclap. His lips curl about his teeth; they glint in the firelight. “And weary of it.”
“Your strength will return.” You know it claws at him, that the great and mighty Smaug should be reduced to this: pained, tired. Hiding.
And yet what would his enemies think, if they were to see him like this? Find him, like this?
His death would be assured then. Of that you have no doubt.
“It troubles you,” Smaug rumbles. “The prospect of my demise.”
“It troubles me.” There is no need to deny it. Your actions have betrayed your devotion more than your words ever could. Your hand trembles against Smaug’s flame-warmed scales. You had seen the arrow pierce his flesh; you had seen him fall. “It troubles me greatly.”
Smaug’s great eye pierces through you, amber burning gold in the firelight. “Remove your sodden clothes,” he tells you, and though it is a shade of its former might, besieged by the pain of his wound and the blow to his pride, the dragon’s voice still carries the authority of a King. A King without a throne, a King without gold, but a King nonetheless.
“But you should feast - “ you protest, gesturing to the deer you’d felled and left at the entrance to the cave.
“My sustenance can wait.” Smaug’s voice is little but a growl, and though the rainwater seeps through your clothes and chills your skin, your belly fills with warmth at the timbre of his words.
You do as he commands, your breath and his punctuated by the shifting of cloth as you rid yourself of your sodden garments, spreading them by the fire to dry until you’re bereft of all but your skin.
Smaug’s fierce, dark eye watches you with the same attentive longing he had once bestowed upon his hoard of treasure, and it warms you through more thoroughly than any fire ever could.
“You gaze upon me like you would a trinket you favor,” you tell him, your skin prickling beneath his sweeping stare.
“Does it frighten you, to curry my favor?” Smaug’s teeth catch the light of the fire, his scales burning crimson. His scent - earth and fire and the cold of precious metals - fills your lungs with each breath. “Or is it the lack of fear that rends your breath?” His head lifts from the cold cavern floor, easing toward you. “Quickens your heartbeat?” The scales along his nose touch your skin. “Sweetens your scent?”
Your heart is a rabbit set loose from a snare, racing about your chest until your ears are pounding with its beat. “I am not frightened,” you murmur, though your hands tremble as they rove across Smaug’s crimson scales. There is so much of him, so much to him. He fills the cavern, fills your breath, your head, your heart, and oh, you ache.
Throughout your chest, within your belly, between your legs - you ache.
“Show me.” The command is spoken lowly against your belly. Short. Sharp.
Your breath is a sodden gasp long before your hand has slipped between your thighs, your cheek pillowed on a bed of Smaug’s smooth, warm scales. His tail lashes about the cavern floor as you writhe against him, fingers working upon your sex in all the ways that bring you pleasure.
“Such a treasure you are,” the great dragon coaxes, his own breath running hot and the fire burning deep within his belly. “My finest jewel, my prize.” His voice lowers to a fierce, throaty growl, and you sob against his scales, your body bowing beneath the weight of your own pleasure, weakened by months of worry, pain and fear, and so much heat.
“You are mine.” His voice consumes you, lashing tongues of fire down the length of your spine, and it is on the cusp of his declaration that you reach your peak.
Your release steals your breath, turning your voice to little but a wet sob. You cling to Smaug, your legs aching as the strength seeps from your limbs, and yet your voice, when you finally find it, is strong.
Okay okay so like, really weird and specific but I've just started my first job recently!(I'm so excited to keep making money) but like its really stressful and I'm so burnt out cuz I had to immediately start working 8 hour shifts with no training, so like how about smaug with a burnt out s/o preferably female??? Just pure fluff because I really need it!!!!! Please and thank you! Btw I love your work it makes me smile!!!!! (PS. I'm hoping I could get tagged in smaug content!) Okay okay I'm done now I love you!!!
Hello! Not weird at all, I actually really enjoyed writing this request. I'm really sorry that your job is so stressful at the moment, I'm hoping it gets better for you. Also- Thank you! I'm glad you enjoy my fics! I added you to the Smaug tag-list (you're the first!) and btw I love your profile picture. Demon Slayer is my favorite anime at the moment. I hope you enjoy!:
When you entered the hoard, Smaug knew something was wrong. The way your shoulders were tensed and eyes lowered in a half-lidded stare as you carefully took off your shoes said it all. Your smell shifted. No longer did you smell of honey and wildflowers, but now burnt petals and peppermint, a specific smell that Smaug knew you put off when you were feeling stressed or in emotional turmoil. Not that he’d ever tell you that, of course.
“My treasure?” Smaug called out cautiously, frowning when you didn’t reply to him.
After taking off your shoes, you threw your jacket into the makeshift hook by the ‘door’ as you made your way further into the hoard.
Not even realizing he attempted to talk to you before, you spoke a soft “I’m back, Smaug,” as if he wouldn’t realize your presence when you entered.
“Treasure…” He murmured, voice laced with concern when you headed to the work-station you designed for yourself so you could work on your craft. Every day you got up before dawn, took all of your wares, packed them up, and then took them into Laketown to sell to the locals so you could then buy things that you needed such as new thread for repairing your clothing or special treats like candies. You wouldn’t dare risk using the gold of Smaug’s hoard. It was his hoard, after all.
It was all becoming too much though, Smaug knew that much as you sat down and closed your eyes, mentally preparing yourself to work extra hard so tomorrow wouldn’t be as emotionally taxing.
“You’re done for tonight,” Smaug spoke simply as he lifted you off your work seat, cradling you to his chest as he walked to your shared nest.
“Wuh… Smaug, no I can’t, I need to work-”
As he sat you down, suddenly a taloned finger sat against your bottom lip as Smaug shushed you, golden eyes hardened into a glare. “You are working too much,” He announced before shuffling you around so he could lay next to you.
“You are my mate,” Smaug began after a moment of silence. “It is my duty to take care of you, and I always will, even if it means protecting you from your own self.”
His words made your heart flutter as you looked over to him, amused that you found his eyes shut as he held you close.
“I need to work though, Smaug,” You attempted to argue, but your body melting into his side told him you had already given up the urge to work until you couldn’t stay awake.
“No, you don’t,” He huffed, burying his face against your neck. “I don’t know what started these thoughts, but you are mine to care for, and whatever you need I will provide.”
“Smaug-”
“There’s plenty of gold in this hoard for you to buy whatever you need, little treasure,” Smaug’s lips pressed to your neck in a kiss, not one of lust or desire, but of gentle reassurance.
“But that’s your hoard?”
“Hoards can be replenished, what is necessary is that my mate is well taken care of.” His words left with no room for arguing as you began to run your fingers through his hair.
“Take a day off, stay with me,” To outsiders it would be a demand, but the lifting at the edge of his voice told you it was a request, to stay with him, to truly think about the hell you were putting yourself through before attempting it again.
“I will,” You promised, pressing a kiss to his temple.
Your scent shifted, not as burnt smelling as before as you fully relaxed in the nest. You didn’t even realize how neglectful you had been to yourself this whole time, your body feeling like a thousand tons had finally lifted off of it as for the first night in a week you finally allowed yourself to rest.
Smaug may be many things, but a neglectful mate will never be one of them.
