I think bc the eclipse fucks up the water benders cause the moon is blocked? I haven’t watch avatar in 500yrs that’s my guess

iirc the lunar eclipse itself doesn’t actually effect water bending cause while it’s in shadow there’s nothing actually physically between the moon and earth while in the case of a solar eclipse the moon is in between the earth and the sun blocking out light and heat which is the cause of the firebenders being weakened
