Love your stuff, sorry about your car. Any chance you could analyze more of their smiles? I just... Smile analysis is such a wonderful thing that you do so well 🥰
Their smiles with each other are amazing. One of my faves is when Jamie says "Thank fuck" when Dani says she is sure about them kissing in the greenhouse.
Ahh of course, that’s one of my faves too! Thank you so much for the ask! It really cheered me up! Adding “smile analysis” as a skill on my LinkedIn lol
So what’s really fascinating in retrospect is that you don’t realize, at the time, how big of a moment this is for Jamie — and, thus, how heartbreaking her smile is.
Her word choice is obviously far from blasé. But Jamie also curses constantly. It’s the smile that’s more vulnerable. She guards her emotions so carefully. But Dani trusting her then and wanting her — making the first move and then affirming it — finally lets her drop own her defenses.
Jamie Taylor is GIDDY. She can’t hide it. And, for once, she doesn’t want to.
Which is why what happens next is not only devastating to her but also humiliating. She’s played her hand, just like she did when she took the fall for her ex; and as much as she tries to play it off, she knows the damage is done.
That’s what the smile is to her: a liability.
Meanwhile, Dani smiling into a kiss is revelatory. An act that was consistently stressful, upsetting, frustrating, boring is now thrilling, as it was always meant to be.
She’s EAGER. She wants it to happen. She’s the lovestruck teenager she never got to be.
Which is also part of why what happens is next such a shock to her system. The moment she never thought she’d get to have happens — not just with a woman but with Jamie. And then it ends.
She’s done smiling to hide who she is. She’s ready to smile because of it.
