It's actually not about the ship at all. I do think Gray feels a little possessive when it comes to Juvia, just because she's always after him and he's used to it, but it's pretty clear that he's just not interested in any sort of romance right now anyway. Frankly, his feelings are pretty vague and while Gruvia may have been hinted at quite strongly, I don't think it's going to happen anytime soon.
I'm just really annoyed that Mashima would make her into more of a fangirl than she already was. I mean, she actually declares it. It just makes me facepalm.
