to be 100% honest i think people that do the whole “i dunno even if im being actively encouraged and invited it might still be wrong...” thing just literally have feelings of ol fashioned racism and/or xenophobia and they try to spin it into them being a good progressive not just for others but for their own peace of mind.

ya ik it’s confusing thats bc i wrote it in like 2 seconds while i was at the damn bus stop i didn’t think it would strike a nerve the way it did and lbr the molotov-ribbentrop was (a) an attempt to forestall nazi expansion into finland and the baltics and (b) a product of the constant hostility of every other power to the soviet union; and lbr the ussr had a long history of conciliatory diplomacy even when it was obvious the other side was never going to honour such agreements (look at the early 50s) which is a sign of incompetence (blame molotov if you want) but not malice or fascist affiliation
