Foreign Witch Disappears Without Trace
Victoire Fortescue, 18, has been added as yet another character in the cautionary tale that no one is safe when they come to England, no matter what their blood status or where they're from. Reports say that Fortescue disappeared on her way home from work, her job at a muggle shop possibly helping to paint a target on her back and ensuring that coworkers wouldn't know how to help protect her, although no signs of a fight or abduction have been found.
“I suppose i noticed she was g-gone when she didn’t come home and wasn’t here in the morning. I’m so worried where she could be. I just want her to come home and be safe. Oh I’m sorry i just miss her so much.” Sobs roommate Pandora, the only clear statement we got from her crying.
This is far from the first disappearance case that's occurred lately, but while some of those missing cases have resulted in the victim turning up at some point, it hasn't always been alive. With so few details to go on, it's impossible to speculate what Miss Fortescue's fate may be, and while no one has claimed any responsibility for the disappearance, sources report that she's known for an irreverent attitude that could have easily drawn the ire of the wrong person.
"Of course I'm personally involved in this case due to Victoire being my cousin, but even if she was a stranger I would do everything in my power to find her. We don't pick and choose who we help." Reports Auror Alice Fortescue, who hasn’t seemed to make any progress on the explosion at Thrilling that claimed two lives earlier this week.
It's reassuring to know that the auror department is as useless at finding people when it's personal as they are at any other time. One would think that if a crime occurred, the aurors would be able to find some evidence of it, leading some to theorize that Fortescue wasn't abducted, but perhaps a victim of her own actions. Or, more innocently, that she simply returned to her home of France.
"it's not like her. Victoire can be a little.... Unpredictable, but she's never been gone this long. I'm worried sick - we all are." Says sister Juliette, who has plenty of reason to be worried.
