Story:

She was going to Starclan.

Sure, one of her ungrateful children had killed two of her kits in a blind panic.

Sure her son had left to be a kittypet and changed the name she had given him.

Sure everyone in the Clan avoided her. These days, even Eggspeckle looked disgusted by her.

But she was good enough for Starclan! If she wasn’t, then why wasn’t she dead yet?

She creaked into the medicine cat den, yelling for Briarstripe to bring her the catmint that she had been hoarding for herself.

The apprentice obediently brought it out, and she ate it before staggering out for a morning walk. As she walked, she grew dizzy, and eventually....

She fell.

Major warning for Smokeroot’s bullshittery:

Ivyspots lay in the shallow ditch at the side of the Thunderpath, struggling to draw in each shallow breath through her punctured lungs as the mewling cries of her babies echoed endlessly through her mind. Had she made the right choice?

Overhead, the halfmoon shone, though the light was soon blotted out by a too-familiar silhouette.

“What in Starclan’s name are you doing down there?”

Smokeroot demanded. “Did you trip over your own paws again? You were clumsy as a kit, but I thought you grew out of that.”

Ivyspots lifted her head, looking up at her mother, who she had tried to please for so long.

“Mama? Mama please help me.. my chest hurts..” She cried out for her mother, hoping that Smokeroot could at least help with the pain.

Smokeroot grimaced at her daughter. “Why? Tigerjump told me what you did. You’ve always been foxhearted and selfish, but you honestly think that I’d help you after you killed my grandkits?”

She spat at Ivyspots and turned away. “I should’ve gotten rid of you when you were their age.”

Ivyspots felt her lungs clench up, the familiar panic settling in her bones as her mother walked away.

“Mama please don’t leave me!” She wailed, sucking in breath after breath as her vision went dark.
