being without carter for so long is hard on diane. after an exhausting day filled with disrespectful customers and more misplaced orders than she’d like, she’s ready for a break. all she wants is to see the man, knowing it’ll put a smile on her features. however, the male isn’t even on the same continent has her. she tries not to let the distance get to her, but some days are harder than others.

the baker brings her phone closer to her as she sits on her couch. it had been a long time since the pair had seen each other, leaving the blonde to miss him more than usual. fingers instinctively go to the facetime app, calling him. as soon as his face appears on screen, she can’t help but smile. “ you won’t believe the day i’ve had. ”

“it’s freezin’ outside, please come in and have some soup, you’ve been out there for an hour,” sage pleaded with her best puppy dog eyes, leaning against the doorframe letting the chilly, winter air inside as she spoke to the boy currently removing christmas lights from the front of their house. hudson had always just sort of been around, the son of their housekeeper and now the man who took care of the stables and bigger jobs like landscaping. there was a time once when sage and hudson would play outside together in the sweet, georgia summers, but once she got a little older, her parents put an end to their friendship, deeming him a terrible influence. it was only after she came back from college that they reunited, and sage took any opportunity to hang around him that she could- which was why she was shivering in her petal pink pajamas standing in the open doorway. “c’mon, hud, no one else is home, it’s not like you’ll get fired for getting warm,” she pouted. @smpletimes​
